Hmm these are crazy numbers I wander where Nintendo managed to get the supply from. I thought they werer only producing 1.8 million per month? Were retailers just holding consoles for black friday?-Renegade

I think that the idea is that since black friday is a bigger shopping day, customers buying a Wii are more likely to purchase additional games/accessories than on regular days.
I think the fad isn't going to last next year!
PS3_3DO
...Not Going to sell at launch
...Not going to sell by Christmas

You took the bait! For shame...
That's pretty impressive.
I was at Toys R Us on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, shopping for my nephew's 9th Birthday. They had 18 Wiis in stock. 20 minutes later into my shopping, they had 8 Wiis left. I'm sure it was gone when I left.
Impressive, just impressive, is all I can say. Fortunately, my nephew already had a Wii.
I have no clue how they sell this many, yet I've never seen any at local stores. I had to get mine off a guy on Craigs List. Nintendo has some mysterious way of selling these things.BioShockOwnz
You have to think about wanting one REALLY hard. Then one magically apears in your living room with the game of your choice and $300 is automatically charged to your creditcard.
Those numbers.....they have to be fake.....consoles just can't sell that well....nothing can.....Zenfoldor
I dunno. Wii appeals to a lot of people.
Did you know it has a motion sensing wand!? :o

How about all during the year when we all saw decreased NPD sales and there was always a sell out??
I think it was JAN 435K then Feb 335K yet it was always sold out?

WTF?! I got a Wii but instead of Galaxy I got Excite Truck. And I'm naked all of a sud... wait, I don't have a creditcard.
Damn you, Nintendo!

Hopelly this will finally light a fire under third parties a***s. I'm tired of these numbers not translating into third party games.Shazenab
I think it will. A lot of execs put their money on the wrong horse, and are scrambling now. I think we will start to see some third party gems sooner or later.

I loled likeI haven't loled before on System Wars. Good job man *applauses* although the naked has got to go.
I saw a Wii yesterday in a Walmart -- then, ten minutes later someone already had it. I truly don't see what all this fuss is about. Nintendo is robbing people of their money. But then again, I wouldn't evenbuy the console if it were only $100.Stevo_the_gamer
Thank God, rabbid and arrogant fanboys aren't the majority of people.
Yuk! Why does everyone want that thing?! I dont see the appeal, unless you're a young gamer....Franco-J
Really the older gamers "18-34" want the Wii more than any other system. If you look at the Holiday surveys the Wii is want more for people over the age of 18 then any other system. In fact of the two top 10 list I have seen the Wii and the PS3 are wanted by people over 18 and the 360 not on the list.
I doubt most of those sales are for properly owned systems. How many of those do you think belong to scalpers attempting to make a quick buck during the holiday season? I am sure if someone looks up craigslist or ebay, you may find a surge of those systems on the listings all ready to be bought up by over eager people who will just perpetuate the dealings of overpriced consoles.peralta775
I was reading the other day were a woman bought 240 copies of SMG because she thinks it going to be the hot thing this year. I have never heard of a game being a hot idem.

Yeah but then they feel like a sucker when they get them. i don't really see the Wii selling fast as a good thing for poeple who like Nintendo, it will make them less competitve in the long run.

apparently they can produce 1.8 mil a month on holiday months but on regular months they can only produce ~500k
watch the numbers go back to ~500k after the holidays which is great anyhow, but yet ppl will say its still being sold out and they cant keep up with demand
i h8 to break it to u ppl but thats creating artificial demand

Nintendo can probably control the supply flow in all regions. They've done it with the DS.
When there is a holiday in America do they probably move much of the supply over there, same for Europe, Japan etc...

What makes you think they've been producing 1.8 million a month all year? I'd say that they only just recently reached production limits of 1.8 million a month. Plus, as I recall, sales in North America jumped up from 300k/month to 500k/month when the sales in Japan dipped, whereas back in January and February, the Wii was selling only slightly less than the DS.

i didnt say they were producing 1.8m a month all year long. read what i wrote again. what im basically saying is watch them start producing less after this holiday system but ppl will still be saying they are selling out and cant keep up with demand. Which would then show artificial shortage.

Nintendo used to allocate and short ship retail on purpose to create a huge frenzy for their games (N64 and GameCube). Over the years however they have learned that it wasn't working soas of now there isnot shortage of games. This person who bought all the SMG is probably the same person that is still trying to sell the PS3's she purchased at launch.
