It happens. :P Not saying Europe isn't important to the industry, but it doesn't have the influence of the US or Japan, and I don't see that changing.

Yea, I would say while they won't get the critical backlash as Nintendo, the idea seems to be the same. They took at their lineup, asked themselves is this gonna generate enough of a buzz while the entire show is gonna be about the new consoles, and decided maybe they deserve their own press event/day for info to be released so they don't get overshadowed.
I think in both 2k and Nintendo's cases it's a product of avoiding being drowned out.
From a financial point of view, E3 is a waste of time and resouces.
But from a hype-building/spectacle point of view, it's very good.
I think more companies may follow suit and abandon E3 in favour of their own presentations.

the thing is there are companies that have skiped e3 before. Its not much of a shock. It was more of a shock that one of the big 3 isint doing a big conference.

And creating this drama about them skipping the show keeps them relevant, well in 2ks case anyway. I mean if they had just skipped it and didn't say anything would any of us even notice? This way they have people talking about 2k

I remember watching that I think I skipped school that day; When I was in high school I used to skip the day of Nintendo's press conference since it used to be in May until 2007.

I'm pretty sure we will hear about new games, new features about the PS4 and 720. The only thing gone is Nintendo conference. And because they thought it would be a waste of resources, time, money and effort due the competition having more hyped conferences. (New hardware) But they still will have some surprises in the booths. I am pretty excited about it, and so are tons of people.
