Nintendo Switch 2 is better graphically than the Xbox Series S confirmed

Amazing! Switch 2 may have more RAM than the Series S, already more capable since it can do 4K and run at 60 FPS with some titles. Nintendo is cooking something really special

I’m all for the jokes, but what was done to the textures on the Series S port was criminal. I knew back when the original S/X/PS5 comparisons came out that something was off. The Switch 2 looking this much better just confirms it. There’s no reason for the Series S version to look like that

Possibly due to the low RAM, which has me speculate that the Switch having 12 GB as rumored is legit

It costs twice as much as a Series S (and still has half the storage) so it better look better

The price shouldn’t be where the comparisons end. The Series S requires a TV and needs to be plugged into the wall in order to function. The Switch 2 can run off a small battery for hours.

I really wanna see the Switch 2 vs Steam Deck comparisons. It looks like the Switch 2 may be the “best in class” right now. The Nvidia difference is a real thing…

Well the Switch 2 is a next gen machine, it should beat the Seriies X, beating a machine that cost less than it should be a given, up your standards sheep.

And Switch 2 is based on Nvidia's hardware. That has to count for something. The Series S has low RAM, it's basically the bastard child at this point.

Yep, Nvidia Ampere is also more efficient over RDNA2. There was another leak that Switch 2's SoC is on Samsung's 5 nm.

I'm just guessing here, but probably capcom just stopped caring about the Series S version and didn't try to polish it after a certain point.

I paid $550 for the OLED Steam Deck at launch. (Also owned a launch Steam Deck) It’s still $550… The Switch 2 has a screen that trades blows with the unit. (Better resolution and refresh rate. Not OLED) We don’t know the specs yet, but it will give us a good Nvidia vs AMD showdown in this form factor. The Switch 2 also has more feature rich controllers, comes with the dock, and is smaller and aesthetically more appealing imo.

I HATE how every PC handheld just went with AMD because they were the lowest bidder. Nvidia CLEARLY has an advantage in this form factor looking at early Switch 2 impressions.

A console that can run on a battery beating a console that’s always plugged into a wall shouldn’t be a given. That’s a huge burden for the portable unit to carry. In fact I feel like it should NEVER be this close. Not with where battery tech is these days. The Series S cut too many corners. Especially the RAM configuration.

@ghostofgolden: It wasn't because they were the lowest bidder. It was because Nvidia doesn't have an x86 license and can't make an APU. They also don't have an ARM license now. They have their own proprietary architecture. If you wanted an x86 compatible PC handheld to be based on Nvidia it would either require a more complex and possibly power hungry multi chip design, or emulation, which could still be power hungry.

Been 5 years but the last gen Series S continues to be a hindrance to next gen PS5 and Xbox Series X. Can't even clear Switch 2 what a piss poor engineered console.

End production of that shit last gen machine please MS, we need those 2 more powerful console maximize their powers fully.

@ghostofgolden: The Xbox One X beats the S in some aspects and thats about as old as the og Switch, so whether it's docked or not the Switch 2 should piss all over the Series S. But for a next gen console it certainly doesn't beat the PS5, let alone the X.

Meh...series S has some limitations holding it back but no its not less powerful than the switch 2. The switch 2 is a handheld and will be heavily using dsl for fake frames. In reality its probably a 1tflop machine, given how cheap Nintendo is. The series s is 4 tflop and has more raw horse power. All these 3rd party games you see are being fully optimized for the switch limitations in mind, hiding the ugly bits with clever tricks.

I do love how innovative Nintendo is though, the mouse feature of the switch 2 is genius. The next steam deck is going to make the switch 2 look like junk.

I would hope so. Series S is a gen 9 home console. Switch 2 is a gen 10 home console.

Nothing to brag about really. Series S was underpowered 5 years ago, and Nintendo just got there.

Luckily, Nintendo are good at art direction and don't go for realism. That makes their games look much better than other games, on worse hardware at that.

The texture on the XSS version are....odd. Looking at the DF video on the game: The XSS version runs at 1080P 60FPS but the textures are actually worse than the PS4 version. That makes no sense. I'd be inclined to think Capcom messed up somewhere (I presume it's never been fixed either but if anyone is playing it then do correct me).

But anywho the comparison looks interesting. Overall it looks like the XSS has better lighting/shading (Look around Zangiefs beard for example) but the Switch 2 has better textures.

I think most people expected the switch 2 to be 2 gens behind, not 1 gen behind.

Nintendo are all grown up and are still making boring kids games, Sometimes you need to shoot someone in the face or crash into other cars, playing with animals doesn't cut it anymore, problem is Nintendo don't know how to do ANYTHING else.

Yeah, unfortunately for Nintendo they didn't really show a compelling product against what's offered elsewhere for portability. Even the mouse feature is derivitive of the Legion Go. Isn't really a question of sales. We already know Nintendo will sell switch 2s globally en mass... It's just not gonna be a better product than a lot of these handheld PCs.

Fair enough you're right I guess I was thinking about the merger, but I was mainly talking about an x86 APU though because that's what's relevant here because ghost was talking about everyone using AMD APUs (and like one using an Intel APU). Who would build a PC handheld based on ARM right now? That would eat up the battery and performance trying to run x86 software, and there would be incompatibilities.

Most likely. If the Series S can handle it, then so can the Switch 2. Considering the huge budget of GTA6 (estimated to be around $1-2 billion), it would be a smart move to release GTA6 on the Switch 2.

Switch 2 version of Cyberpunk 2077 took 7 weeks because it's the Steam Deck mode "farted over to the Switch 2" - Quality mode Docked is 30fps at 1080p "doesn't look great but it's stable", ROG Ally X looks better at 40fps running on Bazzite, Steam Deck at 800p, Switch 2 is "not that revolutionary"

This game looks better on the Switch 2 than the PS5 as well
