I read about this on the Nintendo forum, here is the link:

http://kotaku.com/5952422/report-chinese-kids-were-used-to-manufacture-the-wii-u

It has also been on CNN from what I've heard, it's official people, shame on Nintendo. I know what you are going to say, nobody is going to buy a Wii U anyway but that is not the point. What do you guys think, do you care about child labour? Are you going to cancel your pre-order? (the last question is directed at 2 or 3 people) I had high hopes for this system and have always liked Nintendo but this takes away a lot of the shine IMO.

Me and my BIG mouth... Anyway, if true Nintendo doesn't get ALL (keyword there) the blame on this, the schools involved and Foxconn deserve a lot of it too.

Boycotting a system over this won't accomplish anything, if you pay close attention and do some research, it's a good chance you'll find out how many of the stuff you own is made by child labor as a means to maximize the profit...

Sad, but true...

;) You are right, it is worth investigating how this came to be and who at what level was informed about the going ons.

To LaytonsCat, it's true that this stuff happens all over the world but once there is absolute proof a company has violated human rights there is the possibily for poeple to act, boycotting has in past led to better working conditions, Nike rings a bell.

The small hands of children are good for the little pieces of the system, just like when the kids in Indonesia do the fine stitching on my Air Jordan's.

Any company using Foxconn deserve any criticism they get, they all knowingly use them despite the widespread news and information about their practices.

Misleading topic title, teens ages 14 to 16 in China are forced to work as "Interns" by their teachers or they won't graduate, it has nothing to do with Nintendo, but horrible from Foxconn just to maximize profit.

So Nintendo gets blame for making children manufacture their systems (again, if this is true)? They aren't the ones running Foxconn here.

LOL, it's laughable that people here think that it's something new.

News Flash! About 95% of the items that you buy, such as clothes, TV's, iPods, Sony products (including your precious Playstation consoles & handhelds), Microsoft products (including Xbox's), Tablets, Nintendo products (including consoles & handhelds), are ALL made from China.

If you don't like it, then they might as well not purchase any of them.

considering bout everyone knows bout their dodgy labour practices and the issues are well documented, companies contracting foxconn to manufacture the product are really as much to blame as foxconn themselves.

Tbh way i see it is you work with foxconn right now your playing with fire, until they buck up their ideas which they never really seem to do.

It's manufactured at Foxconn factory which is the same factory Apple stuff and other electronics are made.

Also there's no indication or proof that the Wii U are made by children.

Protest against apple was hefty, that happens with the big companies and they had to straighten there act.

The 'generally speaking this happens alot so why bother' approach is one to take, I don't judge.

tbh the way thats worded comes off as lets use minors for free labour and call it an internship and a hideous flaw in China's education system that could be abused by companies such as Foxconn.

No 14 year old should be having to do shift work in order to graduate from high school.

Shouldn't you be mad at China?

You have 2 people. One asks the other to do a job; the one who accepted the job forces their little brothers and sisters to do it for him. Who are you going to get mad at? The person who asked to get the job done? Or the one who forced their little siblings to do the job?

This. If people are going to foolishly boycott the Wii U or 3DS made from Foxconn, then they might as well boycott other products as well. Where do you think that PS3's, PS Vita's, etc. gets made? Foxconn. Where do Apple's products such as iPods, iPads, Macbooks, iPhones, etc. gets made? Foxconn.

i honestly hope the more people are made aware of practices at factories like foxconn that companies look for other companies to do it with better track records.

None of what foxconn does can really be justified, the only reason people buy them is because of names associated to them they dont think of whats happening to get that product in your hands. If people were a bit more knowledgable it might make people think twice or better yet foxconn enforce better practices, improve living conditions etc in line with their astronomical profits.

thats my 2 cents, behringer on the other hand are an example of how to do it yourself in china, it gives more control sure its not feasable in every case but considering historically Sony used to manufactur their PS consoles themselves in previous gens its a bit weird.

This is nothing new and I'm more surprised that people are lashing out on Nintendo since every company that employs Chinese companies to produce their goods probably have children making their goods too.

I don't condone child labor, but it's the sad truth.

How shameful of companies like Foxconn.

But the really SAD part will be the "no one cares" attitude from consumers who'll buy the product, even knowing that they were made by cheap child (teen) labour. :(

I bet if you look around your house you will find the same type of products. Just saying.
