Don't want people spreading misinformation in this thread.
It's not that serious though....[QUOTE="bobcheeseball"]I don't understand how Nintendo can be so brilliant, and yet at the same time so unbelievably retarted.super600

Dude.. redirecting posters to your link (every third post :?) Doesn't prove that Germany held a gun to nintys head and made them enact this stipulation .. A number of countries have stricken codes for minors. Besides I would hate to think that gamers would condone countries "bullying " their content..They are a kids company. MFDOOM1983
Kidtendo. Need to put the Wii U in the Fisher Price section.
Gotta protect those seven year olds.

Because Nintendo needs to protect the young ones from mature content and to do that, they must lock out mature content for all users until they're safely tucked away in bed for night night.
The_Game21x
Oh look System Wars blowing something minor out of proportion because Nintendo did it. What a surprise. It's dumb, it's a dumb move, there's no denying that, but considering the games on there are a good £10-15 more expensive than in shops this is basically blocking a service nobody in their right mind would use anyway.
They should still get rid of it though for when mature e-shop titles or demos come out, you already have parental controls Nintendo you don't need to act on behalf of sh*tty parents, if their kids access mature content, screw it, it's their fault. And most parents just buy their kids 18 rated games anyway, they couldn't care less.
[QUOTE="p4s2p0"]I think they are lying about it being becuase of laws. I don't think sony has those restrictions in said area.super600
Maybe because sony europe doesn't have their main officies in germany.
...so because nintendo has offices in Germany, their content is effected. But ENERYONE else can sell what they want when they want...:|who cares nintendo is for the exclusives which are all rated E anyway then pc for serious fps timeJigglyWiggly_
that plus retail 18+ games would still be easily avalable as well, so it's not like european gamers are completely out of luck.
This whole thing with NoE sucks and should definitely be fixed though. All it does is make things completely inconvenient for european gamers and dissatisfy third party developers. From a business standpoint this whole time restriction is just dumb.
Sigh...Nintendo is such a confusing company. All this "we want the core gamer back" talk then you have something like this on your system.
You guys are taking this out of proportion but I am inclined to agree with the complaints.
I'm not sure if this is just a Europe panicing like they do for games but I don't think so though for this.
Ninty REALLY needs to follow logic on some of the stuff they do. Take a hint from the competitors. Its not always an issue to be unoriginal because it actually works some times very well.
Does the WiiU system know how old the person is that is attached to the account? If so, a grown ass man/woman should be able to do whatever he/she wants, whenever they want.

I would think so.
Remember that thing where you had to pay like 25 cents to get online if you were younger? Must mean it attaches your age to the account.

Oh I have never heard of the 25 cents thing. Either way, Nintendo is very odd to me. Can be incredibly brillant one day and then next day can leave you asking "Why"

Oh should have known to look at this in more detail. Like always there is some misinformation... stupid of me. Still not sure if its true for just Germany and their known strictness but at least it may be more clear than just an f up by Ninty.
I had the idea that it may just be European rules for the issue, and while this makes things more positive than I thought I am still sort of doubtful and do see Ninty having something to do with this.
Still its hard not to see this in a bad light considering Ninty is known to do dumb things a lot of the time.

It was something like that, dont quote me on it. Some kind of one time fee for younger ppl. Should be easy to check but I'm lazy. :P
I think Nintys issue at times is it tries to innovate on perfectly fine things that logically would be better to be left alone. Also they tend to have the issue that they don't support obviously more efficient benefitting tech pieces (not gpu and such but more like USB 3.0, better sound support, etc.) that can help everyone in the long run. They should take the approach on their online and systems similar to how they approach Pokemon. Don't fix what aint a broke system and just share the things that are basic features in the other systems with cosmetic change and slight changes.

What would they call it "my first wii wii... u" :P

ahhh this is so cute, those Nintendo gamers are so innocent and precious, yes they are, yes they are.
They need to be in bed before the nasty internet starts downloading those bad bad things.
EDIT: Just want to add that by having Fisher Price and Nintendo team up, we're in no way implying that the "wii wii... u" comes with a potty... presumably shaped like Marios head. Fisher Price thought it was a step too far. :P

Look out, tushy squeeze! *squeeze*Nintendo realy has become a joke company, seriously Nintendo is this for real? Surprised you havn't realeased this thing yet.
F****** christ....YES this IS indeed stupid of nintendo to do...but the way some of you are acting is just as childish as what you claim the system to be
these comments are stupid
but yes....idk why Nintendo would do this, but I buy physical media (unless it's on PC) so this will effect me none

:P taking it a bit seriously.
Wow. Just... Wow. I really like me a handful of Nintendo games, and I try to give them the benefit of the doubt, among all the flak they catch on these forums, and elsewhere but... They're really not trying to shake the "kiddie" company image. In fact, they seem to be embracing it more than ever, going so far as to come up with a completely asinine, and unprecedented scheme like this, for absolutely no reason other than to cement a reputation as being safe for toddlers.
Why the hell are many people just ignoring this?Nintendo's European Offices are located in germany which has harsh content viewing laws
I don;t know if this is the exact law preventing the viewing or selling of those digital rated M games on the eshop until late at night but here it is.
Germany protects young people against exposure to alcohol, tobacco, and descriptions of sex and violence in the media. Children below the age of sixteen may not purchase tobacco products or hard spirits; however, other alcoholic beverages may be consumed in public by children between the ages of fourteen and sixteen if they are accompanied by an adult. Children below certain age limits may not visit drinking and dancing places at certain hours of the night.[73]
The protection of young people against sex, violence, and racial hatred extends to virtually all media including books, serial publications, audio and video recordings, television, radio, and the Internet. Restrictions are contained in the federal Youth Protection Act,[74] and these apply primarily to written materials and recordings. Proliferation of sex and violence in the broadcast media and the Internet is governed by an agreement between the German states.

What online restrictions? (Besides this of course)It's their loss for sales. XBL, PSN and services on PC like Steam aren't doing this.
LLYNCES
It still baffles me how people can defend Nintendo from being a kiddy console. Just take a look at the online restrictions, they really speak for themselves at this point.
