As if pissing off all third party developers and Nintendo's core fanbase weren't enough, Nintendo seems to be on track to piss off retailers as well; it's apparent that Nintendo is deliberately producing less physical copies of games to meet demand in order to force remaining interested consumers to purchase through their lousy e-shop system. Nintendo gets a far higher profit margin from games purchased through their e-shop than having distributors, retailers, and second-hand sales getting a cut. In addition, since all digital games are tied to a single system and account, all the purchased games will be lost forever if the sytem is ever lost, damaged, or sold. Nintendo is using retailers as nothing more than a cheap marketing shop now, and it's only time before retailers catch on and abandon marketing and selling Nintendo games.

Some of ninty's franchises don't sell that well usually so they don't produce many physical copies so that they don't lose a lot of money. They may also have problems producing physical copies for some games sometimes.

So let's get one thing very clear for any other idiots or just misguided people who don't know what's going on. Nintendo games have been undershipped at retail lately. This is evident, this was a problem with Pokemon, Fire Emblem, Luigi's Mansion, Lego City, all of them. However, remember, it is not up to Nintendo to decide how many copies make it to retailers. Retailers order copies of games from Nintendo. Nintendo just meets their demand. If you aren't finding enough Nintendo games at retail, it is because retailers did not expect that much demand for Nintendo games, and did not offer enough copies, leading to sell outs. Now even if they want to order additional copies from Nintendo, it would take time for Nintendo to prepare new shipments, they can't just have their production channels and procedures at the retailers' beck and call. Therefore, shortage of Nintendo games at retail is not Nintendo's fault, it is retailers who are not ordering enough copies. Good eShop sales are just a side effect. Anyone who has studied even rudimentary market economics and dynamics would know how this works. Of course, I never expected TC to know this, but this is for the information of anyone else who might not know much about these matters.

Here in the UK Game just made an exclusive deal with Nintendo to sell vouchers for games sold on the e- shop. The vouchers are sold for less than the official e shop price. Retailers adapt. Its business.

I do prefer physial copies which is why I'm going to buy games day 1 for my 3DS

I'm pretty sure retailers, like those that push used games, purposefully don't order new inventory so they can control the used game market, except for the best selling games. Once retailers go through their initial inventory they don't order more so they can profit more off of used game sales. They're just as bad about stocking Nintendo Wii U games as they are about stocking Xbox 360 and PS3 games. It's basically when the game is new they get new copies in, after that they don't order more to sell all their buybacks. It's sad because I remember a day when I can walk into a game store and get a new copy of just about anything, no matter how old the game was, if it was a current gen game and they sold current gen games then they'd have it, and if they didn't they'd get more soon. Now that's not the case, they gotta make room on the shelves for all those used games. Still, some publishers are kind of bad about distribution of their games, but the used game market only compounds how bad that is.

we are moving into more of digital world. retail stores know this for years.  With that said people still don't like giving out their credit card online so they go to the store and buy codes to buy those games. Then you have idiots who don't believe in credit cards or kids who CAN'T deposit paper into the console itself so they end up buying codes at the store also.

You are assuming that nintendo can fulfill the retailers' oders. There could be legitimate reason why they can't fulfull retailer orders or they might not have a legitmate reason at all. Of course what you said could be true instead. We won't know the truth unless someone from ninty says it like it is.
