On the back of every 360 game box it says 1080p, I'm using a pioneer kuro and each game that iis running is being displayed in 1080p, the setting auto changes for PS3 game's like uncharted which is 720 Where are all these low hd settings coming frompaul265
Those games are being upscaled to fit on a 1080p display if it's not in 1080p native, and here's a secret: Half the games this gen are 720p and 640p and very few of them are 1080p.

well 1080p isn't too difficult for most computers to do, so next gen should be easy to pull off 1080p, I wouldn't be suprised to see higher options than that considering some monitors support it and TVs will get new resolutions in a few years

I believe Santa Monica is aiming for 1080p, 30fps locked, variable up to 60fps (depending on whats going on) with GoW3. Don't know why games don't use this kind of system with fps.

They're lazy at programming, I would rather have a locked fps though, it'll be consistent.

I'm pretty sure what he finds funny the way that how companies; especially Sony over hyped "teh HD" (terrible term) while plenty of games are sub 720p and being just upscaled to it let alone be 1080p. ^_^

Even if a lot of games run at sub-HD, an HDTV still runs it better than an SDTV. I have only recently upgraded from standard definition to 1080p, and I say it's definitely the only way I ever want to play any of my games.

They just look prettier! :P

I thought ED was 480p :?

I think it's anything between 480 and 720.

480i = SD

480p = ED

1024x768=< = HD

Actually, 1280x720 is the minimum for HD.

You mean Metal Gear Solid 4, which is 1024x768, is in HD? And you got that from Wikipedia...

Looks more like sub HD to me, the width needs to be wider.

There's no reason why wikipedia would be incorrect on this subject.
The resolution is fine because the pixels aren't square

It's still HD no matter how you look at it

Wow, I'm going overboard with this, but as long as that's the minimum, it's ok.

I'm sure there 1080hp will be possible next gen. It depends if people actually have the tvs that support that resolution.

Nice post. Its very true of the current gen of consoles. "HD" was just a marketing gimmik. Often the "money shots", or pre-renders are done in full HD too. Moreover, you need to concider the *tiny* 512MB the consoles have. This makes the realization of large game areas even less likely. I think it will happen next gen. Currently on PC I play **all** games t 1920 by 1200 (or HD), this is because it's the native resolution of my monitor, anything less than this results in an unsatisfactory "dithering". Since my old rig broke, I picked up a cheap $600 PC running a dedicated T140 (Nvidia 9800), and even it easily beats out my 360 graphics at full HD. DL the "Last Remnant" demo for PC and 360 for an interesting comparison. I was amazed at how well this budget T140 thing performed, I was fully expecting to have to rip it out; it even runs Age of Conan reasonably well. The upshot of it is, Graphics have moved on a great deal since th PS3 and 360 were relesead. 1920 by 1200 should easily be managed by the next gen of consoles...whenever that is. If you really want true HD now, pick up a PC (NEVER get integrated graphics) and do some basic research for $600 you can pick up a PC that will run most games reasonably well at 1900 by 1200, even though all the shadows and shaders won't be maxed; it will still likely look much better than a PS3 or 360. Make sure you get a graphics card with an HDMI port, makes connecting to your TV and getting optimal settings a breeze. Also don't let Vista put you off, the problems are vastly exaggerated; I run even DOS and old 1990 games on it no problem.

NEWSFLASH: PC gamers have enjoyed 1080+ for the last 10 years. If you have a good enough PC, that is.

Wipeout runs at native 1080p and 60 frames per second, the Ps3 is the only console with the row power to achieve such a splendid display. PlayBeyond.

PsP remakes are the real deal people.

indeed playing wipeout is like having an eye orgasm

Yes it is technically "HD" But a lower level than the set standard which is still inferior.
