From a fun factor, it's a good call. Who wants to go through the feeling of accomplishment for killing multiple Xenomorphs, only to then die from their blood? It's like every enemy would have a DOT aspect. Also, if you really watch Aliens, the acid blood only is used when Cameron wanted to use it: In the fight scene in the med lab, the floor would have colapesed from all the Xenomorphs bleeding out, and all of them would have died from all the blood spatter from killing one a few feet away (they broke through the ceiling when they were less than 2 meters away).

Frustrating game mechanics are often looked on by the self-titled "hardcore gamers" as deep and complex gameplay mecahnics and when they are removed, the game is dumbed down.

This is why developers don't listen to them often. They never really know what they are talking about and the dev needs to sell the game to more than the 50 diehard fanboys flooding their forums.

Acid Blood has never been a problem in the games. Instant Death Facehuggers were a bigger easily noticeable problem(and that was removed in AVP 2010). Did they turn the Xenomorphs into Banelings or something?

You are playing a marine, you have a gun with an almost 100 round clip and takes almost no time to reload, you have a flashlight and at least in CM, you have a nearly 360 degree map that tracks the slightest of movements. You will KNOW when they are coming.

A tight corridor? Flashlight almost always lights up enough for you to see the incoming xeno

Wide open area? Map and flashlight do the job while you have time to run around and get a grip.

The xenos in this game don't even appear to be that strong tbh and at least Rebellion actually took time to animate their movements for fluidity.(Bar the stupid press button to enter vent mechanic, if you wanna remove a gamplay mechanic remove THAT.)

[QUOTE="MFDOOM1983"]I'm surprised people aren't complaining about how easy it is to dispatch Xenomorphs. Sometimes things found in movies don't make for compelling gameplay. See lightsabers for example. Salt_The_Fries
Yeah but somehow Alien Trilogy, AVP1 and 2 were all praised and regarded as classics while retaining this key aspect that's authentic to the movies. I'm sure some compromise could've been made without reworking everything from the ground up...

Ok ok.. I certainly hope you are talking about AVP1 and 2 the GAMES.. Because the movies were not classics, and they were absolute GARBAGE..

One thing that has always bugged me about Alien games is that the Aliens feel so weak compared to the movie. It would be nice to have say 5 aliens in a level instead of 100, and have them actually matter. Though I may be biased.

Sadly I agree with you, since they have that melee get out of the ground type of ordeal your character would technically die from getting hit by acid blood every time that happens.

[QUOTE="Salt_The_Fries"]I'm sure this move will degrade those creatures to common cannon fodder, especially for those unfamiliar or vaguely familiar with the movies. If the game turns out great and this sacrifice turned out to be needed in order to maintain highest level of enjoyability, I might turn a blind eye to it, but I WON'T EVER FORGET THE FACT OF REMOVING THIS FEATURE! However, what worries me the most is the fact that the developers are unable to work on what was already available (no acid blood damage, no facehuggers in MP), trim down the features instead and put their own, sometimes half-assed ideas (explanation for Hadley's Hope survival, Crusher's raison d'ettre)...So much for authenticity they so openly bragged about. I mean all of the above will be forgiven if the gameplay is exceptional, but if not - everyone will tear the game apart.

Isn't this supposed to be more of a tactical shooter with the group? People need to realize they aren't making the next AVP game, they are focusing on a different type of experiences so forcing features from other people's games into theirs isn't going to make the experience any better.

Again it was never a problem before in all the other games. Its not like we want instant death. Just seems dumb to change when it wasint a huge negative before.

Well, the way I see it there's two ways to look at this. The inclusion of acid blood damage will:

1) present an unecessary hassle that will do nothing more than hamper gameplay and cause unnecessary frustration.

or.....

2) if properly executed, it will enforce and encourage tactical consideration on how, when, and where to engage the aliens.

It would not be easy, but I believe it could be designed to become a complement to the gameplay instead of inevitably becoming a detriment to it. That they simply throw up their hands and disregard it altogether is a disservice to the entire Aliens universe. Acid blood is of crucial importance to the Alien species. It constitutes a large element of what makes them so deadly to fight, I'd say equal to their superior numbers. To ignore or outright dismiss this aspect in favor of less frustrating or easier gameplay is outright lazy. I for one would love to be able to alter the environment through enemy kills for strategic reasons, and also be forced to think twice about pulling the trigger if one of my teammates is nearby.

Bleh.

I just can't get hyped for this game at all anymore. I can't even remember the last time "news" about the game was good.

From the looks of things I highly doubt you are going to get the space like AVP 2 had.

nope self proclaimed hardcore gamers tend to be

1.the moaniest buggers alive

2.Have little to no clue on actual game developement itself and how to sell a game, thank god the industry isnt ran by 15 year old kidssua

3.usually have nothing more going for them than being good at gaming

4.Obnoxious like yourself.

come back when you develop a game that sells before spouting junk like this.

No, this idea was scrapped and that build of the game is no longer be. This is no longer a tactical shooter it was meant to be.

Gearbox Community Manager on their official forums confirmed, as of yesterday:

The goal of my post was to note that the article linked in the OP isn't an official source and to wait for the official word before jumping to any conclusions. In this case, I've been checking in with the team to get an official answer on the matter and I'm happy to say I have one for you now: Acid blood damage is present in both campaign and multiplayer. As the game is still being developed, the specific details are still being tuned so we don't have anything more to share about how the mechanic works at this time, but it's definitely there.

If this is a sugar-coating just to not make fans angry for the moment, remains to be seen...

I think they should have just stuck to their guns... the acid blood might make things more frustrating than they need to be, especially with the amount of small corridors I'm seeing.

Honestly I'm not sure about Colonial Marines - the footage they have shown is far too 'relentless action game' then the tense, brooding scares then frantic action that is present in Aliens and the Aliens vs Predator games Marine sections. And those games had plenty of alien acid blood damage, which made Xeno encounters all the more terrifying. Gearbox are damn good devs though, so it'll be interesting.
