So you're saying PDZ, Conker, and Viva Pinata are up to par with Rare's previous works?  (Donkey Kong Country, DK64, Banjo series, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark)

Rare is not even the same people anymore...

either way rare has not had the same frequency of good titles and almost legendary titles they had in the n64 days. They had at least 1 a year back then.

Viva Pinata is a AA title at best and has not caught interest like that. Pd0 is a shell of its former self.

And if banjo scores a 10 then rare is back to form. But what did rare do consistently for the xbox? They had one good conker game and a bad ghost kiddie game. On 360 they have 2 decent games but not at the level of their old stuff

You can stop saying it now. No matter what you may think, PDZ, Kameo and Viva Pinata are the best games Rare have made, standards are so much higher than back then. Rares games rocked on the N64 because they were great for their time, play them now against the new ones and they seem really crap.

Not on par, but they are amazing games they can't win against their previous work but they can give one hell of a fight.

That, in my opinion, is more or less the current complaint.  I mean, I did purchase PDZ when the 360 launched, but was sorely disappointed as I felt it did nothing original and felt very clunky, slow, and the overall presentation was a disaster.  Meanwhile, online had its moments, but just didn't feel natural.  I won't lie and condemn Viva Pinata, as I find it much more engaging than the likes of Kameo, but can I really say that Viva Pinata is better than Goldeneye, or Banjo Kazooie?  Plus with the founders of Rare defecting and starting up their own studios again, I've just lost my enthusiasm for the company.  I mean, whatever happens will happen with them, whether they make great games or not, but I just don't have the same level of commitment that I once did back in the day with the N64.  It's a shame, but Rare is suffering from an outlash of poor product quality mainly because their expectations are set so high.  Now, either Rare has to do something to lower those expectations, or MS has got to get them back on track since they were the ones who caused them to tumble in the first place.

Anybody that says rare makes games like they used to are pure die hard fanboys. Lets have a stroll down memory lane. Shall we.
Donkey Kong Country 1, 2, and 3
Perfect Dark 9.9
Goldeneye 9.8
Banjo Tooie 9.6
Banjo Kazooie 9.5
Conkers Bad Fur Day 9.3
Donkey Kong 64 9.0
Jet Force Gemini 8.9 This game was robbed of AAA IMO.

Now lets see there recent work
Grabbed by the Ghoulies 6.5
Star Fox Adventures 8.3
Kameo 8.7
Conker: Live and Reloaded 8.3
Viva Pinata 8.3
Perfect Dark Zero 9.0 But lets be honest, this game sucked compared to its predecessor, and should not have gotten AAA IMO.

Now I'm not saying all these games are bad, I just think they pale in comparison to games Rare has made in the past.

I will say that Perfect Dark 0 WAS HORRIBLE. HORRIBLE. HORRIBLE. Kameo blew too.

At least play it first before you comment. I thought PDZ was amazingly good. A lot of people didn't like it because it didn't have any form of auto aim, not having it though was required to beat it on Dark Agent difficulty. I never managed to do very well at this difficulty, Kudos to those that did though because it was painfully hard.

Actually you should be very thankfull that Rare is with Microsoft. Alot of people bought a 360 mostly because of that, also variety is a good thing. You may tell me that you hate Banjo, but to say that having one of the best platforming series on the 360 is a bad thing, is something I have to disagree with.

 Don't go on scores, they really mean nothing. Hell, Killzone is better than Goldeneye, it's just Goldeneye was the dogs dangley bits when it was released. The standard of gameplay has rocketed since the days of the N64. I speak from experience thats not clouded by my retro pair of rose tinted glasses.

I actually still play Goldeneye today specially on multiplayer. I can't even touch Killzone anymore after I was done with it.

you pick only the highly rated games, all of those are over a whole generation.. also yea PD0 sucks, but did you ever stop to think that the formula of GOldeney and Perfect Dark is dated and in comparison to games like Halo and Half life its just not as good I mean those gmaes were made for a controlelr with one thumbstick...

personally i would like to see rare do good with banjo 3 and killer instinct 3. it wont be 10s but they will be good. but to say rare is the same old rare is a lie. viva pinata is the best game they have made since starfox adventures on the gamecube (the last game they made for nintendo) on overall acclaim. not gs reviews alone, but every review. i mean rare is missing that spark so to speak. maybe banjo 3 will bring it back.

It was a prequel. This same arguement can be said for alot of companies so this thread fails. As to killzone being greater then goldeneye you never had any friends did you.

He didn't say it, I did. I also had friends and the biggest screen TV you could get back then. We loved it and played it for over a year. I've actually never played Killzone  I was just using it as a standards example.

Rare isn't the same as it used to be. PDZ was much worse than the original.

Kameo is nothing compared to their other games.

Having said that, both those games were rushed to make the 360 launch so Rare can restore its reputation with Banjo Threeie if it's good enough (It better be good. I certainly hope they don't ruin this franchise too).

I'm sorry but if you think Rare's recent games give you the same charm, character, or feeling as thier old gems, then I just don't know what to say. And yes, Killzone is technically better than Goldeneye, but which one will be remembered more? Goldeneye will be remembered for the great game it was and still is, but Killzone will be remembered for its score 6.9.

It did because in the original PD the manual says that Joanna is a rookie with no field experience.

So you're saying PDZ, Conker, and Viva Pinata are up to par with Rare's previous works? (Donkey Kong Country, DK64, Banjo series, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark)Basinboy
Viva Pinata is on par with their Banjo series (as a whole), and DK64 if you ask me. Everything else on the Microsoft consoles is great, but simply not Rare-quality.

[QUOTE="peaceful_anger"]Anybody that says rare makes games like they used to are pure die hard fanboys. Lets have a stroll down memory lane. Shall we.
Donkey Kong Country 1, 2, and 3
Perfect Dark 9.9
Goldeneye 9.8
Banjo Tooie 9.6
Banjo Kazooie 9.5
Conkers Bad Fur Day 9.3
Donkey Kong 64 9.0
Jet Force Gemini 8.9 This game was robbed of AAA IMO.

Now lets see there recent work
Grabbed by the Ghoulies 6.5
Star Fox Adventures 8.3
Kameo 8.7
Conker: Live and Reloaded 8.3
Viva Pinata 8.3
Perfect Dark Zero 9.0 But lets be honest, this game sucked compared to its predecessor, and should not have gotten AAA IMO.

Now I'm not saying all these games are bad, I just think they pale in comparison to games Rare has made in the past.peaceful_anger

:| Killzone will be remembered far longer on here that Goldeneye will. Nothing has flopped that hard

Don't get me wrong though, I still have some faith that Rare will make Banjo Threeie on par with the greatness that is Banjo Kazooie and Tooie, since the original team is making the game. So don't let me down Rare because this game will be the reason I drop $400 for a 360.

I can't be stuffed multi-quoting half the time, killzone was pretty bad game even for the generation. Atleast you proved me wrong but ^_^ most around here just spit out random stuff they don't understand.

I wonder why Nintendo isn't held to the same standards that the sheep hold Rare. bu.. bu... but look at the scores, they are lower than the ones on the 64, well so are Nintendo's scores. Rare makes a 8.3, 8.7 and 9.0 games and they are no longer the ones that made a 9.9 PD. Nintendo is still the great developer that made the perfect 10 OoT though even if their last game to score a 9.9 was PD which was from Rare. Rare has to make nothing but 9.5+ games but the greatest developer ever Nintendo doesn't?

Couldn't agree more.  I guess having to live without Rare games on other consoles is taking its toll.

When you consider that everything Rare has put out since it switched to MS has been AA and AAA, one wonders what there is to complain about.
