No multiplayer in new Wolfenstein & Warren Spector hates the new game

Now I'm not a huge Wolfenstein fan and have barely played them before, but it was my understanding that the MP was one of the game's saving graces and what people kept coming back for. But they have confirmed that the new game will NOT have a MP component to it which really strikes me as odd. 

Later in the article below Warren Spector slammed the new game completely. 

"Did the world really need another Wolfenstein game? Did we need a generically dark, monochromatic, FPS, kill-the-Nazi-giant-robot game? Uh. No. The world did not. I am so tired of stuff like this," he said. "Oh, and could we all just agree we'll never use the generic gravelly-whisper trailer voice guy ever again? And one more thing: Please stop using Jimi Hendrix to promote your adolescent male power fantasies."

Warren has since apologised for his comments

"I'm sorry. I owe the Wolfenstein team an apology," Spector said. "I wasn't trying to diss you or your game. I have total respect for anyone making a game. I know how hard it is And to everyone who pointed out that I didn't know enough about the game to judge, well, you were right. Consider this my mea culpa."

The apology seems like a way of trying to turn the bad publicity around though

Warren Spector has to get in the news somehow. He is a good game creator but his last 3 games have been.....uhh? Not so good. But I actually agree. There really wasn't a need for another Wolfenstein game.

That's what I thought. He's right, but he should know his boundaries with stuff like this because he could end up sounding like a hypocrite

Leaving multiplayer out of a shooter in general is a very, very odd choice. I guess that if they think they can't handle a good multiplayer mode, it's best to have none. 

I don't mind a new Wolfenstein game at all, it looks fresh as hell from i've seen of the interview, and it sounds to be an arcade style romp with a ton of unique weapons to use. Alternate 1960s were nazis rule the world beats the f*ck out of the ocean of mind numbing boring modern shooters.

Well,I am sure that many people are excited,but its 2013...I doubt if it will be a commercial success.The series isn't very relevant now.

Warren Spector's downward spiral is worse than Romero's.

Any new Wolfenstein game should be designed after the original Wolfenstein 3D, not the Return to Castle Wolfenstein game. There was a big difference.

That's why I said he's right but he needs to sort of restrain himself a bit first. Before he makes himself look stupid (as if he didn't do that already :P)

The pressure is all on Machinegames to get the grand daddy of all FPS games right, if they get it wrong it will cost them dearly. Not to mention John Carmack will probably but a price on their heads ;)

Warren needs to stop with the speeches, pack his bags, head to Montreal, and help with Thief or the next Deus Ex. It's time to get back to your roots Mr. Spector. Enough with the Disney BS, I want more of this:

What is everyone talking about with the "Theres no need for a new Wolfenstein"

Uhh... Has anyone been paying attention to what the industry has been dumping on us year after year?... There isn't a need for 96% of the stuff we get. There isn't a new for a new Call of Duty every year, or whatever recycled crap we are fed. 

If its actually A GOOD GAME, then well be glad they made a new wolfenstien. What else will matter if its actually good? The fact that there is no multiplayer honestly makes it sound very interesting to me, seems like the focus is going to be completely different for most fps now or even the last few wolfenstein games.

Also warren spector you and your pretentious self can shove it. The world did not need the mess of broken promises, bad ideas and poor programming that was epic mickey, let alone a second one. 

The news about no MP is good, much better than to force some generic crap that gets quickly abandoned!

On the other hand, I really don't understand what caused so much bitching about the game. Wolfenstein games are fun, including the one released a few years ago. It was good, if you got it for cheap, you could play it and enjoy with no regrets.

Also, the franchise isn't really milked, and it stays away from the overused MMS forumula by going for a different time period with some supernatural elements mixed in. Sure, this new Wolfenstein won't be the most original or unique FPS game, but I have no doubt it'll still be lots of fun, and that's what matters the most!

Wolfenstein has always been about the Single player. MP would be a nice add on after the single player was finished but it never was the focus of Wolfenstein games. Similar to Doom. It's actually one of the few fps games left that actually has a deep campaign.nini200

He's the designer of the original Deus Ex and System Shock, and he used to be a big name in the industry back in the day. Sadly, he's gone into a downward spiral over the last few years, which is a shame...

Okay, I get focusing more on single player, but I'm surprised multiplayer was cut completely. That will probably hurt it.
