However, Halo 3 had a lot more public hype then MGS4, MGS4 is very impressive for having that little of hype in comparison to Halo 3.

In which case it lost to Burning Crusade... but let me guess, "Expansion dont count" right? Halo 3 obviously beat Burning Crusade in Revanue ( on units not monthly included ) ... but units sold day 1 ... Burning Crusade took the cake.

Marketing is one aspect of creating a very successful game in terms of sales; however, marketing is not the only piece you will need. Your post implies that just splashing marketing dollars on any game will make it a bestseller. This statement couldn't be farther from the truth. You need a lot of things to go right. Halo 2 and Halo 3 both brought together "perfect storms" in terms of sales. All the marketing hype was there, positive reviews were there (you may disagree but the positive scores were a plenty), and the time of the year was right. These are only the big things needed, there are several other minor things that also must work. So please before you get all self-righteous with me, look at your own post. If splashing marketing dollars made all games sale like Halo, every single developer and their brother would do it. The fact is your statement is wrong. How is that for an explanation Ace?

alot of games have outsold halo 3's lifetime sales numbers

thats like me saying okay on june 12th ps3 got an AAAE. so the week of june 12th-june 19th for the ps3 is better than the quality of games that will come out for Wii, PC, 360 in their entire respective lives.
