No plans for 80gb PS3 in North America

Now I'm certain that SCEI makes all their decisions by throwing darts at a wall. Either that or rock paper scissors.

this is from march but shows they filed for it with the FCC so I am sure it is comming to NA.

What a rip off though. just after 6 months a new sku with only 20gb more and they take out the emotion chip that emulates PS2 and PS1 games. At least 360 waited a year and 1/2 and added 100 GB and other featurs and did not take any away.

North America is currently their weakest market.

NPD shows that and Sony, above all, is aware of this.

Why not test this product in another, stronger area before releasing it to an already critical(Extremely) crowd?

It really is weird...

the only thing i can think of is that sony is saving a considerable amount on the costs of these units.. i don't know fo rcertain tho...

the thing is....60GB is more than enough for the PS3 right now compared to the measly 20GB MS Gave you with "Premium" 360's...and if you want 120GB in your Premium 360 you're shelling out an extra $180 for it.  Lets not talk about rip offs please. A Premium 360 + 120GB HD =  $580 and doesnt have Blu-Ray, HDMI, Wifi, Card Readers, Additional USB Ports, Bluetooth.  Dont bring these arguments back you'll lose.  Just admit the Elite 360 totally SCREWED UP your pricing argument.

Just buy a new SATA drive if it bothers you so much. You could have 250GB PS3 if you wanted.

They already went to FCC so do you think they did it for fun? They would not have went to FCC and filed paper work if they were not thinking of bringing it to NA. Ya may be cheaper then the 60gb but they are taken out the emotion chip so bye bye games for PS1 and PS2.Also your right this is nowhere near close what MS did because at least MS added features and 120GB and is still cheaper then this chunk. Do You own an Elite? I bet you dont....along with 98% of people on SW that already own Premiums...and it still doesnt have all the features of the 60GB PS3 along with only HDMI 1.2
