Non WiiU owners: Will Mario Kart and/or Smash cause you to buy a WiiU?

I knew these games were coming, like every single other generation it's all Nintendo really has. If I don't have one by now knowing that these two games being announced doesn't change anything for me at all.

To make me consider a WiiU, I would need them to make a Zelda with no motion controls and little to no tablet integration. Give me basic controls as an option and give it a realistic look (OoT, TP) instead of a cartoon look (WW).

Also either a price drop or far larger HDD. Then I'll consider it.

But moreover X would be my #1 most wanted Wii U game.

Smash? Hell no. Not only will it not make me get a Wii-U, even if I had a Wii-U this game would not be on my "to buy" list.

Mario Kart? Very slightly maybe, but in the end, no. However if I had a Wii-U, this would be one of the more essential games for me along with 3D World, New Super Mario U/Luigi U, and a couple of others.

For me, no Wii-U until it gets alot more games than these two. I'm more interested in X, Bayonetta, Shin Megami X Fire Emblem... Also needs a price cut to be more in line with last gen systems (since it in itself is essentially a last gen system).

Nah, the two games right now that I have my eye on are SMT X FE and X.

No because Ive played all of those games the other 43 times Nintendo copied and pasted a new one.

I would argue that every version of Smash has made enough significant changes and additions to make them worth the full price

Mario Kart on the other hand is pretty debatable, I'm more on the side that it's copied and pasted, but then again it's a racing game, it's hard to make a lot of changes to a racing game.

It's already got a bunch of games I want. These two I want as well. I'll definitely be getting one sometime.

no. i will get them when i get a wiiu (well may stick to smash bros on the 3DS) but they wont really encourage me to get a wiiu.

X will. when that comes out i will get a wiiu. i will also get Kart, world, pikmin 3, W101, WW HD and more when i get a wiiu then.

Well I had one until Nintendo false promises and straight lies became a reality and then I traded it in for a 3DS and games alogn with some Vita games.

I wanted the Wii U just for Super Mario 3D World alone, but having Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros for Wii U would have helped too, if it were not for the fact that I see no value in the Wii U and I feel Nintendo consoles in general have a history of not lasting as long as I would want in terms of a lifespan; so I see no reason to purchase a Nintendo console for that reason alone. I feel like it will be many gaps in between in terms of waiting for newer video games to come out, I feel like there will be times when there would be no video games for the Wii U for me to look forward to, so I just end up being disappointed unless I were to use it as a secondary console. It seemed like Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Mario Kart 8 were the only video games I would be willing to preorder for the Wii U, if I happened to already have one.

No because Mario Kart never did much for me and I don't like fighting games much. Besides, I could always try Smash Bros on my 3DS if I really wanted to.

The only game I can think of which may cause me to get a Wii U is a new Fatal Frame, or maybe its own Zelda.

These 2 games won't be the holy grail for Wii U...it will sell some but won't be to Nintendo's expectation. Smash Bros will also be coming on 3DS..so people will morelikely buy a 3DS/2DS than a Wii U. :p

No, but so far using my tablet for controls is not ideal(just got a Kindle Fire HDX). If I don't like using one to control my YouTube app I doubt it would be any better for gaming, especially games that require looking at the screen.

I already know I don't like using a tablet as controller from a less integral experience. Pretty straight-forward. Btw I always though Gomez was kinda ugly until I saw her cameo in Aftershock. She's pretty hot.

The size of the controller is the issue. I'm used to Xbox and PS controllers. It's non-starter though because there won't be enough games that interest me on it.

when I bought a Wii U the fact that these games were set to come out did weight in to my decision, but weren't the single-handed reasons in my picking it up, it's more the totality of what was available that sparked my interest, New Super Mario/Luigi U, Zombie U, Wind Waker HD, Pikmin 3, Wonderful 101, Super Mario 3D World, and games coming out like Bayonetta 2, Mario Kart 8, Super Smash Bros, SMT x Fire Emblem, and a new Zelda title (that's not the Hyrule Warriros) which hopefully gets announced at E3

I plan on picking up Wii-U sometime this year, mainly for the new Xenoblade, 3D Mario Land, W101 and the inevitable Zelda, personally I've always HATED Mario Kart and Smash, especially Smash.

Umm, no. Both games have such little value for anything outside of local co-op. And I own the previous entries in the series. So it makes no sense to invest in the system and games for an experience that would be so identical to what I could get on older systems.

I have been considering the Wii U lately, but still not sure if I want to bother getting one. The tablet controller being so expensive to replace is the biggest thing holding me back. I have some interest in Mario Kart and 0 interest in smash bros. I am interested in the new Mario game and the new Donkey Kong game coming as well as a new Zelda and a number of Wii games that I have never played like Xenoblade for example. Having a 100+ game backlog also has me holding off on buying any new consoles.

Wow, that's incredible. But if your backlog is really 100+ I think sooner or later you're going to have to give into the fact that you'll never complete that backlog, whether you buy new consoles or not

I checked the poll, meaning i voted even though I own one so we'll discount my input, but only 30% of the answers said they'll never get one, so 21-22 of the 31 people who answered so far are atleast considering purchasing one someday.

Yeah 96 of them are on Steam. The rest are PS3/3DS games. I am sure a number of those games on Steam will be non ending games that I will play a bit and move on, then there are the short games. But yeah, I have an issue I am not sure I can fix. Good thing PC is BC, so I have no time limit on the PC games. I am hoping to resist Steam until next Christmas.

It's very compelling, I'll give you that. I personally had no intention of getting a Wii U but with the increasingly strong lineup that Ninty is pushing out...all I really need is a solid Metroid or Zelda and I think I'd have to cave and take the plunge.

Meh, I'v played the past iterations of both Smash and Mario Kart to death and see no real reason to buy the Wii U for those games. i will however be inclined to buy a Wii U when the price drops and more games arrive on the system. (fingers crossed for a Metroid Game that isn't Other M 2) and the new Zelda.

Nope. Never cared about Smash and Mario Kart died in me after N64. Actually, Super Mario Kart on SNES started to die in me while I was in high school. It was fun while it lasted, but it became just that BORING GAME lying around my collection. Same can be said about Donkey Kong Country.
