Nintendo needs to make some announcements, and fast. Aside from the 3DS, I hold zero confidence in them anymore. Not in terms of their immense talent to create excellent software, but their overall mentality that would allow that talent to flourish to its fullest potential but is currently hampered by extreme corporate conservatism and passivity.
Frankly, I see no future potential for their console suited to my tastes, and as buying any system is an investment, Nintendo has yet to prove to me that my money would be well spent on anything past Mario, Luigi, and the regular stable with one or two low budget new IPs thrown on the eshop every once in a while. As for Smash and Kart? Never cared for them. Zelda? Potentially, but I've not truly enjoyed one since TP and I'm fairly sure the new one's going to be a predictable attempt with one core mechanical change stuck in the same old formula. I also don't believe it'll release before 2016 (and that's being generous....SS was shown at 3 E3s, we haven't even seen the new one once), so I don't really hold out much hope there. Metroid? More than likely a 3DS game if anything IF it's ever coming (which I'd actually prefer) so that doesn't incentivize me to buy a U.
I hate to say it, but today's Nintendo is boring. I really dislike holding such a cynical attitude towards them but sometimes they frustrate me to no end.
So no, the only way I'd currently buy a U would be if it were $100. That's the value I see in it now, and towards the foreseeable future.
