When I came home from school one day, my dad had bought a new game for our Xbox. Halo: Combat Evolved. I mean, I've never heard of it prior. He left it paused in the living room and I happen to stumple upon it.

It was paused during the second chapter, during one of the warthog drive sequences. He had been walking instead of driving, for whatever reason. He had a half-empty needler and an empty assault rifle. The important thing was, the vertical view controls were inverted. This was maybe one of the first console FPSs I've played, so it didn't strike me. Aaand, every since then, I have to play my console games with the vertical view inverted, I'm just used to it.

So, thanks, Dad.

Makes no sense you say... well, probably because the ones who support your line of thought must feel insecure and stay BEHIND while those who support my pic have no confidence issues and are able to FACE the truth.

;)

GreenGoblin2099

Like I said, you LACK 3D thinking.

And your pic, especially the bottom one, completely justifies how much of a stupidass you are.

And there was a reason I didn't even bother with your logic... you sum up your defense to flying controls, and while I agree inverted is best for planes, this is FPS, so you my friend have no real point to say here. No, there was a point. You just didn't bother because you were too stupid to comprehend what I was comparing it too. Like walking through a straight line in 3D, like in FPS or flying through a straight line like in a plane. Same basic principle of moving through 3D space. Apparently you can't seem to read between the lines. I mean really it's pretty damn simple. Mems and a few others have nailed it.

As for my pic, in case you didn't notice is just the pic slash posted but inverted, so you're basically bashing his defense on inverted controls... so thanx for making things easy for me and saved me the trouble of calling you stupid by doint it your self. And I said: BOTTOM ONE. Nice try. Or better yet, to make it simple for a simpleton person like you, THE BOTTOM DRAWING.

Now, if you excuse me, I'm expecting replies from more intelligent users like mems (or at least more than you).

Now excuse me while I LMAO  at your next stupidass, idiotic response.

Nice story, I think the game that got me used to inverted was Goldeneye.

Inverted is actually more natural. What do you do when you look up in real life? you move your neck and back backwards. When you look down you bend forward.

when you look up you dont tilt your head forward, you tilt it back. when you control a camera in a game you're controlling someone's head.

I bet you just use the inverted option for vertical controls but use normal for horizontal, and that my friend is where you logic goes to the crapper where it belongs.

You control the VIEW, not the HEAD.

One of the dumbest posts Ive seen in awhile. If the normal x and y axis were incorrect you'd have a point but since only normal y axis is wrong you dont.

Normal. Inverted only makes sense in flight games.

Why? What direction do you move your body and head when looking down in real life?

I played Starfox for the SNES and various shooters and flying games on the 64. Since then, if it's a shooter for a console, I play inverted.

I'm actually surprised at the percents for each preference. My friends made me feel like an idiot for playing inverted all the time, but they can #@^ right off.

When it's mouse and keyboard though, it makes more sense to roll with the cursor being normal. Unless it's a flying game I guess.

Inverted with a stick, and normal with a mouse.

I think I think of controlling a handle on the back of a camera when using a stick. I don't know why I use normal with a mouse, though.

Because that's how you use mouse on desktop. When you try to find an icon you point on it, not try inverted controls, right? Similiarly in games. Using your camera analogy, you control it like you would a handheld camera.

Yeah, but most games I play have me rotating a viewpoint not controlling a cursor. Controlling a game like Civ V is just like doing things on the desktop, but most games don't work like that.

Usually normal, but when using a helicopter or jet in games such as Battlefield I prefer inverted.

True. but you're rottating viewpoint, not camera on a stand. Look at FPS games...you move how you do in real life, you raise your arms and body to aim higher after all. And since FPSes become so popular, the TPPs adapted this method of aiming too.

Question: Does ANYONE use inverted mouse controls? That just sounds like it would be stupidly awkward.

well ok, but then we can take it to even more ridiculous lengths and say that when you raise your forearm to bring the gun into an aim, your bicep muscle is pulling back so the inverted control scheme is correct in that way.

Only if you don't know how to shoot. The proper way (and way everybody is trained to) is to have the gun and arms locked into one position of aiming, so wherever your head faces the gun points :)

Realistically it's simple PC vs console solution. Consoles had joysticks, so aiming with inverted made more sense, unlike on mouse. But since most shooters nowadays are made by PC and ex-PC devs, the PC style won.
