Notch: "Facebook creeps me out."
Oculus sharable Beta for Minecraft has been renamed "Minecrift" lmao
R.I.P to this...

Hello to this...
Jokes, people, jokes...

There is a mod that does it. But ya he was going to make an official version or patch I guess. I agree with him I think facebook is creepy as well. I don't do business with them or their subsidiaries.
As much as I enjoy Minecraft, Notch has always sounded like an annoying, unnecessarily paranoid human being.
FB is such a fad waiting to crash, it is funny to see them throw peoples millions away on things like this or whatsapp.
Facebook has existed for more than a half decade and they are still not dead.How are they are fad?
5 years??????? Really?????????
What does Facebook make? What are their profits? What services do they provide? Who is their target market? Just remember, Blackberry, Blockbuster, Chrysler, Palm, Saturn, Compaq, Gateway, all had their time in the sun and had been around a lot longer than FB.
I agree in principle but FB crushes all of those companies in profits easy I'm assuming, even in their primes. Facebook is on that "hey look, that's for sale for only 1.5 billion, here's 2 billion, let's make it even" kind of level.

He made only $130 million last year. He pretty much has all the right for being an annoying and unnecessarily paranoid dude.

Well, I was going to call him a hipster, as he shows many tendencies associated with the title, but hipsters aren't allowed to have that much money. They have art degrees, deliver pizzas, and use the word "gentrification" far too often.
But yeah, people have the right to do or feel just about anything within the confines of the law, but it's still annoying.
Who cares? Minecraft doesn't even make sense on the rift, nobody is sitting there thinking "oh boy I can't wait for the Rift so I can get immersed into a world made up of giant cubes!"

Minecraft seems like the least exciting game to use for OR.
This is what I was thinking when I first heard this but I was never a big fan so I deferred to people who actually play but yeah, not high on my "VR must-haves" list.
Notch cancelled a potential multi-million dollar deal due to FB creeping him out? I get if Facebook had archaic or non-existant practices for actually boosting this product, but they are a fairly large company nowadays... It seems like they are expanding their portfolio, which could be beneficial. I would understand if they forced connectivity with FB.
Truly moronic reactions all over the internet for this occulus news
"RIP OR" (like it is somehow going to suddenly not work or be unusable in games) Derp
"Virtual Reality to play Farmville"
At the end of the day i'm not happy about facebook buying out OR and i fucking hate Facebook,but at the end of the day the retail version will still be released and any dev that so wishes can make a game for it so **** all has changed for us gamers....
Can't wait to get the Oculus Rift, spend about $300? It'll be worth every penny. You all need to stop hating on such an amazing innovation, when I strap this on my big head I can't wait to play FarmVille when it's all up in my face, and the best part? It'll be like being right there in the conversation, all that text in 3D.

Just for personal clarification though, I was only "R.I.P.ing" Minecraft for Oculus not the Oculus itself.

I know I wasn't talking about you :P
I have been browsing through the comments section of various websites and it's the usual stupid stuff,people talking before they think.
@BattleSpectre:
You know farmville isn't made by FB right? An nobody said it will cost 300 dollars. What the hell would would people play on the Sony VR?

There was a recent article on Gamespots front page, and it was from the Oculus Rift team and they said the price would be around the $300 mark. This is virtual reality, do you really think they'll be giving them away? Do you know how much money they have spent to get it where it is right now. People in the comments were saying $300 was very fair.

They provide a social networking service and make billions from ads. Over a billion people use it so no, it's not going away.

I think you're misusing the term "fad". A fad is something that becomes hugely popular, for reasons unknown, for a short period of time and then fades away into nothingness. And with most, if not all fads, the majority of people tend to recognize that there was really no logical reason why everyone participated other than being swept up in the mass hysteria and excitement. Blackberry, Blockbuster, Chrysler, Saturn, Compaq and all those other companies you mentioned, they were not fads. They were well designed businesses that were hugely successful but failed to adapt to the changing landscape and thus ended up failing. That's not fad.
What you are doing is akin to calling the transcontinental railway system in the US a fad. At the time it was constructed it was a great innovation and hugely profitable and pretty much changed the entire nation...but with the advent of airplanes and personal vehicles and more convenient modes of transportation, the railway system lost popularity. It just cant match up to the other modes of transportation. Its still there, but not as awe inspiring as it used to be.
@locopatho: So did Myspace, so does Twitter, so does Google, and ad revenue is great until businesses are not getting a benefit from said ads. I have never purchased a single thing from a paid ad on any social media site. This is the flavor of the month and will soon pass. 5 years in the business world is a blip in time.
Myspace didn't have over a billion people using it. Myspace wasn't as big and integral to modern life as Facebook is. Just about every business, every website, and every person I know is on Facebook. Myspace was for preteen girls.
It's not going to last a billion years, but it's not going to evaporate over night. Calling it "flavour of the month" is just wrong.
@locopatho: Actually it Is just like MySpace. When are people going to realize that social network companies don't have a product. The actual product are the people. Once the people\product leave the company dies. Which was the case with Myspace (people moved to FB) and FB is in a panic to figure out how to keep its product from leaving. 'Lets buy instagram, lets buy whatsapp, lets buy OR.'. You are the product for these companies and that is not a sustainable business model when you dig deep enough.
Facebook does have a product now, though. They just bought it for $2 billion and now people are going to have Tinder all up in their eyeballs.
Both Facebook and Oculus are just the nasty. VR in general. Just a gimmick that will disappear shortly after its unveiled, just like it has previous times.

Look mate I don't talk shit, I always have facts to back up my statements, here's the link to the article and also a sentence I quoted from it, you can see it too in about the fifth paragraph of the article:
"Oculus VR CEO Brendan Iribe said in July that the company is currently targeting a $300 price point for the consumer version of Oculus Rift."
http://www.gamespot.com/articles/oculus-rift-will-be-affordable-says-creator/1100-6418068/
@BattleSpectre:
They said targeted never did they say it will be that much now that facebook has acquired them they don't have to sell it for that price

Whatever mate you wanted proof I gave you it, how do you know they don't have to sell it for that much? Do you have any articles or proof backing your statement, or are you just guessing..
@BattleSpectre:
As a company that makes its own hardware, Oculus is very different from Facebook's previous acquisitions. But Zuckerberg said Facebook isn't "going to try to make a profit off the devices long term."
http://money.cnn.com/2014/03/25/technology/facebook-oculus/
And lol what proof they never said that it was going to be 300 dollars "currently targeting" does not equate to actual price. They needed to make a profit of the VR but with FB owning it they don't need to make nearly as much profit.
@DarthRamms: Well I'm not really sure why we're arguing, I mean if it's cheaper that's better for us.
