I'm only making this thread for my people. Like myself who find online modes and features infecting our games to be either uninspiring, annoying or just plain pointless to the overall experience that games provide... Games like metal gear shoe horn in FoB missions which couldn't be more uninteresting and loom with a constant irritation... Watchdogs was the same.

The trend of making online a thing in big budget games cheapens the experience for me and I find what is being offered to be in contrast of why I want to play deeply rich SINGLE player experiences.

Fallout 4 is glorious in its disconnection from other people... No jackass's running around in my game world dancing, no constant threat of an online invasion, no buddies trying to share weapons in the wasteland... None of it. Just a great video game to consume at my own pace and pleasure.

I didn't realize just how much I enjoy the offline flora until last night when I was rolling through the wasteland hording everything in sight and realizing this is my game world and no one else's. Ahhh how I missed this feeling in big budget gaming...

How about you system wars... Anyone else excited about the freedom of shoe horned online modes destroying your single player MOJO?

It's pretty amazing there isn't a single microtransaction to be found. The only time an online feature felt normal in a SP game are the messages left by others in dark souls. For me that is the perfect implementation of online and other players without having an impact on the single player.

Games like this are in short supply. Gaming is dead. Long live gaming.

Fallout 4 is glorious in its disconnection

I don't really follow the 'disconnected from people thing' but offline games > online games. The more offline games the better.

That's not Fallout 4's fault, nobody will admit it but when one is secretly longing to play Halo 5 and Rise of the Tomb Raider but can't because they bought a ticket and boarded the wrong console hype train, trying to substitute that desire with something not up to task just frankly won't cut it. So instead, all that pain of unfulfilled want is manifesting as bitter resentful bitchiness... or maybe there's something in the water causing an epidemic of extreme male PMS.

At least TC finds joy in the game, I finding a lot of subversive hate against the game though. I'd of thought more people would be excited given initial reaction to the reveal gameplay and anouncement of a 2015 release. Nobody talks about the gameplay, it's all dick measuring contests with parity and how does XBO stack up to PS4 or how PS4 stacks up to budget PC, it's like all graphic performance discussion about how last gen it looks, or threads like the one yesterday not explicitly about Fallout but about RPG "dumbing down". Then there's the bad user ratings.

I don't think a single Bethesda game taking place in the fallout or elder scrolls universe ever had internet connectivity beyond DLC. aside for TES Online, which is terrible even by Bethesda's standards.

although online raiding parties would have been pretty damn cool to have. The raiders as is are dumb as a box of rocks, having the threat of actual human intelligence could definitely make it feel like much more of an effort at personal survival.

Maybe we'll get Fallout Online next.

I'm not really an online gamer. Never have been. Would much rather have a quiet experience I can take at my own pace, being immersed in the world.

Destiny has people running around, dancing, or if I get placed in a Strike they sprint ahead while I'm taking my time (which, now that I'm higher level, I understand.) Halo 5 is built around cooperative, and I've been doing more onling gaming than I have before with it. Assassin's Creed has chests that are all tied to the online experience. DLC is everywhere. Bloodborne has you leaving notes. Smash Bros has a ton of DLC and is heavily party focused.

It's been a little much. So when I have something like Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, Okami HD, or The Witcher 3 (I know it has DLC, but it isn't in your face) I find myself relaxed. It is exactly like you said, I enjoy going in knowing that this is my game that I can explore. It's why I'm looking forward to finally playing Fallout 4 by the holidays.

There are still games that do offer this feeling, but the amount of connected games with an abundance of DLC is a bit much for someone who doesn't usually go for all of that nonsense.

@TheEroica: Honestly I agree on everything you just said, that's why when State of Decay was released I was soooooo damn happy, cause honestly that game is the perfect zombie game and I hate how DayZ was ruined cause of it only having online which attracted all the internet D bags in the world.

@Motokid6: all that work to build a desolate wasteland of survival and a buddy gets to come along... Meh.... No thanks. You could sell me that mode in other games, but not in fallout. Now if you said, a coop mode where you control dogmeat, and the dog had its own rule set and controls, I'm listening.

Could be laziness on their part to not add online features like that. Wether it's laziness or intended. I'm just thankful it's not like MGSV or Watch Dogs.

Would be interesting to see Souls series messages left in the game world, but then again that would take away the element of surprise and discovering new things on your own. You could disable it if you like, like the souls games. Interesting idea if implemented indeed.

@a-new-guardian: I mean, yeah you could try and keep consistent with a letter/mail system (like that shitty Koster film the postman, which is basically falloit) that enabled people to leave notes/tips etc...

I think keeping the games very lonely feel is important to the overall experience of the game, but that's just me. I wouldn't want people in my world in any meaningful way... But there are ways to have an online element if it were unobtrusive.

A fallout style mmo type would be the end of the franchise for me though... Video game impotence for such a concept.

Look at how ESO flopped. It flopped because you don't get to be that special little snowflake like the Dovakhin (sp?) in Skyrim or whatever the hell you were called in Morrowind. I believe you were supposed to be a reincarnated god or something.

What FO really needs is a dramatic shake up of its stale formula. I want to see the war from the other side, China.

@TheEroica: Why not? Again just a simple invite only coop with two people in the same world doing the same thing. That'd be great!

Because when pals show up they could steal your exp/loot, and the game's speed goes from the user's pace to 100mph. Suddenly everything needs to be "epic" with explosions and boss battles and planes crashing in to the earth and such. Everybody starts dancing, hopping, flipping and trying to out run each other. :P

No thanks.

I agree on that. Shoe horn online modes for the sake of been there are waste of resources and the same goes the other way as well ( nobody cares about the single player campaign in Battlefield EA ). I wish more games were like Fallout and Witcher on that aspect

Sometimes you just want to unplug and get away from it all, ya know?
