I think he forgot to say "one of" because Mario has Halo beat by a landslide. Of course we all know that it's the director's job to forget about stuff like facts. :^)

Also, in Europe Halo is really nothing special, and in Asia people don't even know about it.

well im not sure about the other big games. but I do know halo has a lots of things like books,graphic novels,soundtracks,movie,toys,adult collectible toys (there's a difference between the two),clothing, and I guess there is more. a little similiar to star wars.

This director is obviously glossing over the comparative sales of these franchises but he is also including Halo's pop culture presence in his statement. I'm pretty sure as a pop culture icon Halo is right up there with Mario and I don't think Mario has been on Mountain Dew...yet :P

well im not sure about the other big games. but I do know halo has a lots of things like books,graphic novels,soundtracks,movie,toys,adult collectible toys (there's a difference between the two),clothing, and I guess there is more. a little similiar to star wars.

In order to even compare with Star Wars, Halo will need to maintain it's popularity until the year 2027 much like Star Wars and Mario have for the last 25 years.

A franchise is not limited to only one product.

Halo as a franchise is much bigger than CoD and GT. I'd go as far to say the only company with franchises larger than Halo would be Nintendo with Pokemon and Mario.

If we are to look at it by todays dollars then MArio has definately made more money than Halo. Pokemon would fit the bill more than Halo IMO. Because that series is Far Far bigger than Halo and they have books, tv shows, t-shirts, shoes, hats, bookbags. You name it man.

Doesn't a franchise define everything that is involved in it? The Lord of the Rings Franchise includes the books, movies, games, soundtracks, books about the lore...etc...looks like your wrong when it comes to defining what a franchise is.

This is a gaming forum. And even when i use your example halo still is not close. POKEMON includes the books, movies, games, soundtracks, books about the lore. So calling Halo the biggest is still wrong.

Then you can add tons of other franchises with video games that are massively larger than Halo. Start with Transformers, Spider-Man, and Ironman and don't forget to pass through Hello Kitty and Toy Story.

Halo as a franchise is insignificant. As a game collection it has a lot of relevance, but still overshadowed by a lot of other game products.
