I'm actually surprised there hasn't been any topic in System Wars about this. I was wondering how the System Warriors feel about the Generation 8 War? Is it over, or does it continue?
Gen 8 isn't done yet. Get out of here with that "gen 9 has begun" stuff.

I don't think generations are a clear cut thing anymore. I think we are going to have to give up the numbered generations thing or not include Nintendo or think of Nintendo as having multiple consoles in gen 8. It's all just made up terms that mean nothing anyway.
Not sure. Microsoft doesn't do generations anymore, so they will be stuck in generation 8 forever, which is luckily a good thing.
Wait, Nintendo had a console after the Wii? I thought that was what the Switch was trying to be a sequel to.
All I remember is that little expansion periphery called the wii u that was essentially just a new touch screen controller.
This generation talk is bs when the previous insoles are still in use and getting games. Not to mention the mid gen spec bumps (pro/scorpio)
What does it mean to consider the previous generation wrapped up?
Like, declaring the winner and doing a postmortem on what went right and what went wrong. All that System Warsy stuff.
Ah I see. System Wars business.
I'd say it's over for Sony and Nintendo - MS is debatable. A console release is a console release though. Usually a generation's end is marked by a more powerful system to replace the previous one (also debatable in the case of Nintendo, heh).
Doesn't it just overlap? Xb1 and ps4 remain gen8 while switch is gen9. Or are yall just gonna throw some psuedo mindfuck bullshit at me why that cant be and your favorite system is da best!!
That's what I'm trying to figure out lol!
For reference sake, the PS3 still had all kinds of games coming out in 2013 and 2014 but there was all kinds of formal declarations that the WiiU started Gen8 so things like the PS3 sales catch-up didn't count in terms of the results of the Gen 7 war. So many implications to how System Wars approaches the next gen.
I figured I'd see what people had to say about the subject. It's pretty lively lol
With the generation 8 leading Playstation 4 smashing the competition, Sony Interactive Entertainment will decide when we enter the next gen of gaming.
This honestly ^. Microflop and Nintendo are having a re-launch of sorts cuz they flopped out
Gaming generation makes no sense. For it to make sense, every console would need to come out at the same time, all the time. Every console is in their own gen. Playstation is in it's fourth gen, Xbox in it's third and Nintendo it's 7th (I think). Don't know how to cut it for PC though.
If the Switch is launching a new generation, it is a sad time indeed.
Going backwards when you should be advancing is just mind boggling.
The Xbone looks powerful compared to the Switch. Let that sink in.
If it is supposed to succeed the 3DS, mission accomplished.
If Nintendo doesn't plan on launching a beefed up Switch I have no idea how they will get the newest games from third parties on the machine.
Nope, gen 8 is still going strong and until the 3rd party developers stop making games for PS4/X1 it will continue to go on.
Correct. As long as PS4s and Xbones are being sold and software is developed then they're alive and well.
Gen 8 only got better near the end with some great PS4 games.
Infamous was still my favorite though.
i welcome gen 9.
It's over when they stop selling the consoles.
Here is the only right answer end thread.
I consider a gen over when the last system from that gen stops manufacturing so a gen can go for very very long like the 6th gen was thanks to the PS2. Two or more gens can subsist at the same time. So now with Switch gen 9 started but gen 8 is still active with the PS4 and xbone.
I bought an NS. I'm glad Nintendo is doing well with their new system but...
Nintendo's gen 9 isn't the industry's gen 9. Ever since Wii, Nintendo has been at least an entire generation (in capability) behind the rest of the industry. Direct competition or not, gen 9 hasn't started for most people.
I can't wait for Gen 8 to end, good thing Nintendo put some effort into innovation and isn't just a horrible weak PC with a handful of interesting exclusives which are their only excuse to exist. This gens AAA games are plagued with sequels, remasters and save bets while the Indie front gets flooded with trolls, trying to sell crap.
