nintendo is on par with gen 7
lmao
The market decides when a gen ends.
The market currently is focused on the PS4, the PS4 shifted the market from the last gen towards this gen. As the main focus of software development is still on the PS4 and not on the PS4 pro or scorpio or switch. The gen which the ps4 is launched in is still totally valid.
When the market shifts from the PS4, for example of scorpio is shifting the whole market towards them with them being the main focus and ps4 getting left in the dust without any support, then the gen is shifting.
Sadly neither teh scorpio or switch currently is making a impact on this department.
So we are still in the same gen wise.
Not the market, developers and publishers decide.
There is a one to three year lead time for developers and publishers for major console titles. No one is going to wait around for consumers to stop buying games to decide on their allocation of development resources over the coming years.
If you are looking at spending tens of millions of dollars on a complete upgrade of your technology, tools, and art pipelines you are only going to do so for a platform you have the utmost confidence in.
In other words no one is doing an upgrade of their tech and engines for Scorpio. It is not going to be a generational change. Scorpio will get slightly ugraded current gen ports. And once the PS5 arrives it will get downgraded ports.
It makes absolutely zero business sens to risk tens of millions of dollars targeting a new platform that:
* Is the result of its predecessor bombing in the marketplace
* Its predecessor has been dead in two of the three major console regions, Japan and Europe.
* Its parent company has a history of dumping their console mid-cycle - the first Xbox marketplace failure and the Xbox One.
* Its parent company has so little confidence in its current console it has abanonded all exclusive titles for the system.
* The current dominant console's follow up will be arriving only a year or so after.
* Will be launching into one of or the fastest selling console in history with some 70-80 million installed base and the biggest first party developer array combined with the strongest third party support from all three major console regions.
That is the exact opposite of a platform you are going to bet tens of millions of dollars on.
Scorpio is destined to be another Dreamcast.
