Now that my 360 died, should I get a PS3?

Yeah, so I recently got the three red lights of death on my 360, and MS customer service was fairly rude & uncooperative, so for the first time in my life I'm considering just selling my 360 on eBay (even broken ones sell for $200+) and going PS3.

The only thing is, I'm a big fan of shooters, and don't see too much besides R:FOM that I already haven't played on my 360. I'm really looking forward to the possibility of MGS and FF though.

So should I make the switch? This seems like it would be the best time to do it...

Why, to play motorstorm? There is no reason to get a ps3 now, keep with the 360, you'll be sorry if you don't! Also, if your a big fan of shooters you know the 360 is the console to own, just get it fixed! Bioshock, Halo3, Hour of Victory, UT 3, Cross Fire, Army of Two, Brothers in Arms, all these FPS'S are coming to 360 this year, plus a bunch of other GREAT GAMES SPANNING ALL GENRES!

PS3 doesn't offer much right now.  I'd stick w/ 360 and if then next 360 breaks get a PS3.

yeah, spend another 400 dollars and if it breaks again then get the 600 dollar one. That's a very smart way to use your money...

You guys can get if fixed for free now, or 120.00 dollars at the most, that like 500.00 bucks cheaper then a ps3 when you include tax! Thats not even counting the crap warranty sony gives you, 60.00 bucks for one year of coverage, which should be two!

Well, it'd only be $140 to repair, but then add on a few years of warranty so I don't have to pay ANOTHER $140, basically it's going to cost $200 to repair and to get 2 years of more free repairs.

If you're really interested in hi-def movies, go with a PS3. There are enough PS3 games out right now (Resistance, Motorstorm, Virtua Fighter 5, and multiplats) to tide you ever until the big hitters come out (Heavenly Sword, Lair, MGS 4, etc...). But if you don't want to miss out on the 360's lineup, Mass Effect, Forza 2, Halo 3, etc., stick with the 360. And make sure you get an extended warranty if you buy another one so in case it breaks down again...

I've heard bad things about getting your 360 repaired (i.e. it's more prone to more break downs), so if I were you, I would just try to get some good deal with the 360 core version (since it seems you already have a hardrive and all the other stuff...)

Well, it's up to you what is best. Do you want to take another risk, or go with the system that has very little malfunctions? Games should be a given. I'm asking you with all seriousness, Do you really think PS3 will be a system with no good games?

I would absolutely switch. The game library is quite pathetic right now for the PS3 but the system is on the upswing. In a year, I would say that the large difference in quality and quantity between the game libraries will have been significantly narrowed. (Hey, it took the Xbox360 a year before it got games like Gears of War) That, and the hardware issues with the Xbox360 definitely make me uneasy (as I'm sure you're feeling right now) Even if you do get it repaired, if the system is giving you this much trouble now, can you imagine what it would be like after you've played it for another two or three years? Always making sure you're not playing too long, always worrying when you hear the slightest abnormal whirring sound, always praying the system doesn't die and manage to scratch your games at the same time. That's a hassle I would prefer to live without. So again, if hardware issues spook you and you're willing to wait just a little while longer for the game library to catch up, the PS3 looks awfully good. That's why I chose it.

You will get many responses, some say stick with your XBOX 360, some say get PS3. I'd say stick. I never had any problems with the XBOX 360 since I got it in June 2006. gnutux

Well, if we're talking about presently, yeah you're right. Same with the PS3. But if we're talking about in the future, then there's Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Cry On, Enternal Sonata, and Infinite Undiscovery. For platformers you got Banjo, while PS3 has Ratchet. And for adventure games, do you mean traditional adventure games (i.e. ones with puzzles) or do you mean action adventure games?

Not at all, to be honest, I think the 360 and PS3 are about even with their exclusives. The only thing holding me back is the fact that the PS3 AAA's aren't really coming out in full force for almost a year.

Huh? :| I was just telling you that it had JRPGs. I named a platformer (yeah, I know, it's only one - the platformers are really lacking). I was just trying to compare the genres and the amount of the games it has for each compared with the PS3 when I was addressing ps3gen. The point I was trying to make in my previous post was that the 360 didn't rely on one genre (as many people think it is...) Sorry if that came off fanboyish....:?

I'm really surprised about that.  I just got my xbox repaired and thought they were extremely cooperative.  As long as your warranty is in place, they really work for you.  I sent my console in so that it arrived at their repair center on Thurs.; by Fri. it was repaired and shipped back to me (scheduled to arrive this coming Wed.).

It's starting to look like I should get my 360 repaired for now, and maybe make the switch to PS3 once their game library catches up to the 360 w/ their AAA exclusives. Hopefully by then there'll be a price cut as well.

Figure the money I'll spend on repairing and warrantying my 360 now will be about equal to the price reduction for the PS3 in a year or so. Sound good?

[QUOTE="Baird-06"][QUOTE="coolguy1111"][QUOTE="Baird-06"][QUOTE="ps3gen"]i dont know if u like shooter games u should stick with the 360..but im sure ps3 will get shooter games as well..with the ps3 you get all type of games..thats why i have the ps3..you should jus get it fixed ..since most likely the 360 will get more fps games..coolguy1111
You get all types of games with the 360 too...:?

Not really, it lacks JRPGs, platformers, adventure games, and all that.

The 360 doesnt have every genre, stop being a fanboy.

You are the Fanboy. Oh and the PS3s break all the time you just don't hear about it that much. If you guys want to miss Halo 3 be my guest.

You're in luck if you like shooters. There's a good chance that PS3 owners might see Crysis on their console.

PS3's break all the time? There might be a few here and there that break down but Xbox 360's are known to break down A LOT of the time. I've yet to read up on any stories claming that PS3's are breaking down left and right like the 360.

The solution is simple enough. Go to the playstation.com forums and then the xbox.com forums. It's clear there's one that's primarily occupied with hardware issues.

Upcoming shooters (FPS) Resistance 2 Unreal 3 REsistance 3 Killzone 2 COD4 HL: ORange box? new Crytek game. PS3 will get more fps as time goes on, so i still think you can get your fix. But PS3 will be the most varied console game wise, so why not just experiment?

I called support and the lady was very nice and got to the point. "serial #? mailing address? Ok sir, a box is on its way!"
