From the looks of things, Nintendo thought that all they'd have to do hardware-wise to get ports is catch up to what's out. With the success of PS4 and XB1, it was reasonable to expect them to last until at least 2019, or possibly even longer. Now it looks like Microsoft has decided that this generation is over, and Sony is sure to follow suit. That means that NX is 100% exact repeat of Wii U, though this time there was nothing they could do to stop it from happening without making it come out much later than they wanted and continuing to sink money into Wii U. Unless they have big plans with SCDs, NX is going to sell no more than 5-8 million units in three years, if it even lasts that long. It seems like the best course of action is to either drop NX completely and start over with a 2019 console that blows everything else away, cut their losses and just kill off hardware to go third-party now, or rush out NX for a holiday 2016 releases and prepare and iteration of it for release in 2018 to catch up to XB2. What do you guys think they should do?
How can you even toy with this idea when we have no idea what the NX is, or what it's power levels are? You can't just assume the worst because that's what the loudest voice is saying, when their are plenty of other equality viable sources saying it's more powerful than PS4.5, both sides have as much chance of been right. Let's at least let Nintendo announce the damn thing before telling them to scrap it.
Maybe the reason we don't really know a whole lot about NX is because they can redesign the hardware base at will as long as nothing is rolling off an assembly line.
I remember when people kept going on about how Microsoft were going to release the "XBox 720" and how it would revolutionise consoles and be the highest selling, most beloved console of all time. The we got the XBox One and they all flipped their shit (still a decent console though). Moral of the story: don't trust people's pre-release expectations. So who knows, maybe the opposite might happen with the NX and we get the best console ever. We can only wait and see.

It was already told it will be weaker than XBOX ONE because NX gamepad costs too much like Wii U
How do you push back something that wasn't announced? What is the NX? You seem to know something the rest of us don't. Because from everything I've read, all we know is the code name and that some folks got dev kits. It's not like those are final or anything.
@FreedomFreeLife: NX has also been "confirmed" to be...
weaker than X1
weaker than PS4
more powerful than PS4
weaker than PSNeo
equel to PSNeo
stronger than PSNeo
a console/handheld hybrid
a pure console
a pure handheld
a streaming device
Remember, none of this info is coming from Nintendo, it's coming from random people on Twitter and Reddit, who claim to have inside sources. We know NOTHING, I'm not saying that it won't be weaker than X1, but I think it's a bit premature to jump the gun before we have any info on it.

What sources? The only source who said that it's even close to PS4 Neo was 10k, he is not viable (especially compared to Rogers), and even he has since backtracked. SuperMetalDave64 doesn't count either because he hasn't had any actual sources for months and everything he's said about specs have just been guesses (remember that his source was someone in marketing at Nintendo and thus wasn't handed a spec sheet). It's not a Neo competitor, and if you believe that it is you're in denial.

The point I'm trying to get across is that I don't believe anything, because we know nothing.
Also Rogers shouldn't be instantly trusted, this isn't the first time she's claimed to have Nintendo hardware knowledge, and last time she was wrong.
I called this power race event when Nintendo first announced the NX. Of course Sony and Microsoft cannot run a normal console generation with Nintendo launching a new console. No surprise there. I don't care about power and I prefer to game on the TV, but all Nintendo needs to do to win every time is make a handheld with the ability to play games on the TV. Then they don't have handheld cannibalizing home console sales, and they are back on top again. Have a little faith-the company that gave us the NES, SNES, DS/3DS and Wii knows how catch lightning in a bottle. They have done it several times already.
Neo isn't Gen 9, and NX is on-par with XB1 at best so it's Gen 8-level hardware and can't get any Gen 9 games.

Nah, Kimishima isn't even hiding the fact that they planned to launch it sooner. He pretty much said, "We planned to launch this year but decided against it because it wouldn't have enough games." There's no way that a March launch was their original plan anyway. If 2017 were the plan from the start, Wii U wouldn't have a completely empty year and it would release in November 2017.

That denial. It's not healthy.

The only people with any reputability at all have said that it's weaker than PS4 (other than the CPU,. but that doesn't matter half as much as the GPU). There's more than enough evidence to say that it won't be anywhere near Neo, and will be a gen behind XB2.
If rumors aren't convincing, here are some facts:
Nintendo doesn't plan to take a loss on the hardware
Kimishma said that NX will be affordable
Miyamoto said that Wii U was too expensive
We already know that it's not a hybrid
Just from these three things, we can safely say that they're aiming for sub $300 price point while make a profit, and that makes even matching PS4 almost impossible. $250 is more likely, and that makes even matching XB1 a stretch. I've crossed out what has been ruled out 100%, and thus there aren't any major contradictions.

Okay, I know that you're trying to defend this thread, but you made that up. or badly paraphrased something.

Yeah scrapping all they put into the product in R&D at this point is great business sense.
It's called cutting your losses. They aren't going to make that money back anyway, so it's better to not waste moneyb on marketing, manufacturing, and shipping and to just bow out now to minimize the inevitable net loss.

No, that's not how it works. Chips can't just be redesigned on a whim. It would take a good year or two to revamp the console.

That was during a time that she was wrong about everything though. Anyway, to quote myself:

The chances of it matching PS4 Neo, at least out of the box, are zero. It's completely impossible.
Whatever they're doing, it'll have to avoid competing with what Sony and Microsoft have going, and kind of be their own thing, but something attractive nonetheless.
Nintendo and Microsoft are sad. When sony was losing badly at the beginning of last gen, they didn't whine and cry and have rumors come out every other day about "new" hardware. They manned up, cut prices, secured third party deals, and got a bunch of great exclusive games, and they ended up with a damn good console at the end of the day.
Nintendo and Microsoft are pathetic tbh. Nintendo moreso than Microsoft, Microsoft has at least had some decent price cuts

Wii U wouldn't have been saved by price cuts, and it already has great exclusives. Making a new console is really the only option for them besides either bowing out or just dealing with losses for another year or two.
I know that you're just a fanboy and will ignore this, but eh worth a shot.
lolno. But i sure as hell will enjoy their mess if their NX is anywhere near as shitty as WiiU. Some companies learn from their mistakes,,, Nintendo isn't one of them. Gonna be entertaining.
@techhog89: wii u could have boosted sales if they admitted fault and dropped the Gamepad like how Microsoft dropped kinect. It's not my problem or anyone else's that nintendo, one of the longest standing companies in this industry, makes novice mistakes that people that have no connection to the industry can see. What did Microsoft so when kinect didn't sell? Dropped it. What did sony do when ps3 was hilariously failing? Removing ps2 backwards compatability to cut hardware costs.
I'm not a fanboy I just recognize quality and guess what. The playstation brand has never not ended up succeeding, whether as an instant takeoff or an eventual win.
Without even addressing the tremendous amount of assumptions you are making (all of which are based off of "confirmed/verified" rumors...w/e the hell that means) I have to ask one question: what if Nintendo's new gimmick for the NX is a lightning-in-a-bottle scenario similar to the Wii and they dominate with casual sales?

The reason that they didn't drop the GamePad was that they couldn't. Pretty much every game up to that point would have been incompatible, they would no longer be able to make games that use it in important ways (which would have REALLY hurt Splatoon), and the entire interface would have needed to be ravamped. On top of that, what do you have when you take the GamePad away from the Wii U? A weaker Xbox 360 without a hard drive. That's not gonna sell at any reasonable price. It might have boosted sales a little, but not enough to save it from being a flop. Even cutting to $200 would result in a much lower profit or even a loss per unit from dropping the GamePad. XB1's main problem was price, so cutting the price helped. Price is at the bottom of the list of major issues with Wii U.
@techhog89: what do you have when you take away the Gamepad? How about all those "amazing exclusives"? Haha. Apparently not so amazing if the only appeal is the Gamepad in your eyes.
They should have made the pro controller and the interface work better together- that's on them. There's only like 2 games that really benefit from the Gamepad and that's Splatoon/super mario maker. Seems like a big sacrifice for 2 games
@techhog89: a 200 dollar gamepadless wii u bundle with smash and mario kart would have sold off the shelves and appealed to a demographic that would be interested in wii U as a secondary console- gamers who don't own a wii u by now would more than likely only be interested in it for those 2 games anyways

Considering the fact that Splatoon was a pretty big system seller, that's kinda important. SMM is also unplayble without the GamePad. Also, I think Nintendo has better market analysts than you. Simply dropping the price wouldn't have caused it to sell hotcakes. Just look at GameCube. If that sold as badly as it did even though it launched at $200 and was eventually cut to $100, what on Earth makes you think that a $200 Wii U would have been a huge success?

@techhog89: 5 years of college studying market research, advertising and PR, a degree and a career later i would trust my own analysis of nintendo over anything they're actually doing lately
$200 wii u w/smash and mario kart >>>>>> GameCube for $100. Instant sales.
Was 2 games that sold well really worth the lack of hardware sales and third party development though. Splatoon sold well but they could have had 20 games that sold just as well. Splatoon would be fine with a pro controller update too

Well, they're planning on making NX "affordable," so I guess we'll test that theory soon enough. Your studies were definitely a bit flawed imo, however. IN case you forget, there was a $250 Wii U being sold during the holidays with Splatoon and MK7. By your logic, that should have sold millions. In the real world, while it had a noticeable impact it wasn't groundbreaking and there was even leftover stock after Christmas. Meanwhile, Wii U was selling like hotcakes in Japan due to Splatoon alone for more than half a year, and only stopped due to mass shortages as a result of decreased production. The point is that games and features sell consoles, not low prices. At $200, even without the GamePad, Wii U would be sold at a very small profit at best and a significant loss at worst. Software sales might have offset it a little, but we don't know how much sales would have needed to increase for there to have been a positive impact on profits. Add to that most games needing an update to even work and the time and money required to push out those updates, and it would have required a colossal increase in sales to be worth it. Probably something like doubling LTD in a year. That's obviously impossible, so it wouldn't have changed shit.
@jcrame10: You can turn off motion controls and use the second analogue stick for aiming. So, if they incorporated that with the pro controller, then it'd still be ok. Not like the end of the world without the game pad.

Okay, dial it back in here. That 250 blundle does not mean squat- it had the gamepad bundled. My bundle idea does NOT include a gamepad, but a regular controller, the average gamer that doesnt follow Nintendo either thinks A.) Gamepad is a forced gimmick and the only method of control or B.) the gamepad is just an add on for an upgraded Wii. There are many people who still dont know what Wii U is, because of the years of confused advertising messaging with the system.
I promise you, a 200 dollar bundle with a regular old pro controller, with those 2 games, would see more than 800,000 in sales (thats nintendos predicted reach for this entire year). Many gamers would drop a few hundred on a Wii U simply for Mario Kart and Smash, after all these are iconic franchises that most people brand Nintendo with.
@techhog89: and, given the fact that Smash and Kart do not have any real use for the gamepad, you're probably looking at the majority of players using an alternative controller- wiimote or pro controller for kart, wiimote/pro controller/gamecube controller + adaptor for smash. Suddenly, your 250 bundle just became 300 with the purchase of a brand new pro controller (50 dollars), or hunting down a gamecube controller and the adaptor, which is probably close to 50 as well. Your bundle is now 100 dollars more than mine, and it includes the gamepad, something that this target market (who, lets face it, if they were interested in the gamepad would have bought a wii u before now) may or may not have wanted.
