Well, the ratio of X360 GTA Sales to PS3 sales seem to correlate to their respective install base, slightly favouring the PS3 if you think about it. So the $50 million on DLC didn't do much to stimulate the sales.

I suspect their expected results would be a ratio favouring the X360 install base in ratio to sales.

HD consoles need another $100 price drop in the US or they are going to just go stagnant hardware wise. Software there will be no problem (especially for the 360).

Interesting numbers indeed.

And as for GTA being connected to the Playstation label thus GTA 4 would sell more on the PS3 platform; I think that argument just got torn into shreds.

However, I'm surprised of how terrible both X360 and PS3 did in terms of sales; I expected numbers in the 300-400 thousands considering the GTA 4 release, and I'm bearing in mind the fact that GTA 4 released quite late in April.

The May numbers should be interesting.

Has there been ANY form of real advertisement for the DLC yet? I have yet to see anything at all that would catch people's (casual people) attention for the 360 version of GTA 4.

i was surprised as well. this really proves that what goes on in System Wars is far from reality.

i would think that 95% of the people here would agree that GTA is a system seller, but looking at these numbers just destroys that assumption

unless for some reason alot of people bought their copy of GTA4 when it was released, and then bought their system later, but that wouldnt make much sense. i dont know.... its so strange

Let me clarify. They care about their total sales to recoupe costs and no one else. If 60% of the ~2-3 million 360 owners worlwide buy the DLC at say $15 x 2 for the episodes (there is two right?), that is close to the 50 million already ($36 to $54 million) after the first week of sales. The competition # really matters only to the PR.

Yeah. the Nintendo systems made up of over half of the US hardware sales. That is insane. They also had insane software numbers.

Cows? umm, I believe we are all humans here? Unless it some Geeky way of making fun of fans..and GTA4 on the PS3 sold 1 million, thats not bad, Mario Kart only outsold it by 120,000 With the Wiis Huge lead, thats a pretty low attach rate.

Well, the first 18 months of the PS2 were recorded by VGCharts.

Wii has been tracked for 18 NPD months.

So:

WII - 9,511,200
PS2 - 8,457,699

Again the PS3 software sells like crap. This just proves that people but the PS3 for the BR player. I'm actaully suprised that GTA4 sold almost twice as many on the 360. All the Sony fanboys said "but teh playstation is the home of the grand thefts"fanboy999

also, there are 2 DLC's for the 360, so with your equation they only need to sell 1.25 million of each. not too difficult to achieve

Ration wise the PS3 GTA4 to 360 GTA4 sales is roughly the same as the PS3 userbase versus the 360 userbase.

Anyways I'm not trying to make excuses (although it obviously looks like I am). PS3 and 360 got whooped up on by the Wii and unless there is some drstic movement of PS3 hardware in May and June this gen is in the can for good.

I mean if GTA and/or MGS4 can't move 200k+ hardware then I don't know what wiill. It seems like all Nintendo has to do is release a game.....ANY game....and it will just explode. They can't do anything wrong right now.

Ouch The Wii will over take Microsoft as leader in the U.S. in the next month or two. The hardware sales for both the PS3 and X-360 are pathetic. GTA4 sold pretty well no surprise that the 360 version outsold the PS3 version.

Normally game software holds up really well in recessions as it is still below impulse buying thresholds and provids good value vs cost. However, hardware at these prices will not hold up and I would expect without a price cut that HD consoles will remain below expectations the entire year.

The Wii has more resilience though due to the lowest price and can be basically equated to what a "narcotic" would do. You will get one at any cost.

Yeah, I'm not gonna try and impersonate an economist here.....I know a little about the stuff...but I'm not gonna start talkin' about elasticity, and luxury goods, etc....

There's something hidden here........and while the knee-jerk reaction is to say that everyone just wants a Wii, I'm not quite sure that is the case. Because there are still plenty of people ( I thought at least) that wanted one of the HD consoles.
