218k seems in line with my 200k~300k prediction :P And I just won my SW Bet

Lol @ all the cows that said it would sell more than 500k. So now we know that it's a flop in Japan and the US. Now to confirm European floppage. For comparison, the 3DS sold 396k in its first four days at the same price point.

Eponique
The Vita was on the market for 11 days. so 11 days of Vita sales is still 50% of 4 days of 3DS sales. Sounds a lot like a certain handheld console sales war a few years back,....

What happened to psp sales? They stopped tracking it or was it just so bad that they left it off the list?ninjapirate2000
Very, very bad sales for the last two years for PSP. The lack of interest in PSP probably didn't help the Vita launch at all

  • Resident Evil: Revelations - less than 100K

shinrabanshou

This is highly disappointing. It even had a demo that played really well.

It has two things going for it: a) survival horror elements b) proper iteration of a popular franchise, not a railshooter spinoff

So the Vita launch, what people expected? Also, when does the new iPad launch, would it effect Vita sales?

ShuichiChamp24
The Vita may get worse sales regardless of a new iPad. What will be more interesting is how the 3DS sells with Kid Icarus in March with a competiting iPad.

Big thread with lots of posts, so can you show me where its confirmed it sold less than 100k? I know it didn't chart in top ten, but neither did Super Mario 3D Land or Mario Kart 7 and Nintendo said they sold over 100k each

Seems like no 3DS game has cracked the top 20.

I was expecting Revelations to do so.

It's disappointing. Are we sure Revelations wasn't in the Top 20?

This is actually not true. Nintendo confirmed Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 sold 100k plus in Feb, so unless all the top 20 sold more than 100k or so

I misinterpreted. Nintendo sent out a press release showing that Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 sold over 100k for Feb. 2012 So, if Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 aren't in the top 20, and sold over 100k but Uncharted is in top 20, that means everything in top 20 and some games outside sold more than 100k.

He said new software.

Oh, like new releases? Whoops. Adding "releases" would've be more clear. Still, do we have word if 3D Land and Kart are top 20 or not? Coz if they aren't that gives hope to some non-top 20 games to break, or get near 100k.

  • No NEW 3DS software sold more than 100K
  • I haven't seen anything that says MK7 or SM3DL aren't in the top 20
  • What they sold has NO BEARING on what Resident Evil: Revelations sold

The source is known to be legit.

No.

No one knows where Uncharted is in the top 20. It could be number 20. It could be higher.

Yea, I sincerely hope it is #20 coz that means good, deserving games like Revelations, Darkness 2, Syndicate, 3D Land and Kart 7 can slip in between 19-11 above 100k. Oh well, time for the waiting game.

[QUOTE="charizard1605"][QUOTE="zarshack"]pretty sure they were sold in stores too?

zarshack

Hmm, you sure? If they were, then NPD includes sales from those too.

They were sold online and in stores. Same way games are sold online and in stores, and NPD doesn't know digital sales does it.

I wasn't talking about digital games, no. Those I know can't be tracked. I was wondering if systems and games sold through, say, Amazon, or Gamestop.com, Bestbuy.com, Newegg.com, and so on, are all included in the tracking as well.

360 still maintaining a healthy dominance over the consoles, ps3 is adequate but not as spectacular as cows want to believe and wii is reaching its end life slowly chuggi g along. Good for ms for making a console that has games for everyone and supporting it.

Did it? :?

Midnightshade29

First Edition Bundles went on sale February 15th. That is when Sony begins to count Vita sales in the US as well. Ergo, the Vita's release date in the US is February 15th, 2012.

dude...you had to preorder that months in advance and it was $350... I tried to get it 2 weeks before and you couldn't ... I had to wait til the 22nd which was the OFFICAL launch.. You poeple need to stop stretching the truth..the offical launch was the 22nd for normal people. the first ed bundle was a limited early release. I have over 120 people in my small town playing vita in a 1 mile radius... Thats one town of many ... (this is from near) ... it had to of sold pretty good for a launch.

Anecdotal evidence much? And like it or not, the FEBs were included in the NPD.

They're included. And FEBs were available in stores - at least it was in Canada.

I'm not sure what you're trying to imply.

It's always been known that NPD numbers are estimated sell-through based on high level retail data.

And their coverage now includes both Walmart and Sam's Club.

60% is enough to be very accurate. And as of this month, Walmart is included, so you can increase that number to 80~90%. [QUOTE="PinnacleGamingP"] selective data FTL !! and only in a tiny part of the world  in other news, PS3 destroys 360 in Canada.

Australia is somewhat balanced now I believe. New Zealand still has an affinity for the Playstation brand like continental Europe I think. The last numbers I saw for either were quite old.

The UK is XBOXLand.

[QUOTE="lawlessx"]360's on top again? how does this keep happening?shinrabanshou

It's asked in every thread. At this stage in the cycle it's built up a critical mass of mindshare. People buy what their friends buy. People want what their friends have.

11 million more people have a 360 than a PS3, that number will only grow.

It's simple SW does not = World (or the US in this case). 9 of the top 10 games for Feb are on the 360. 8 of the top 10 games for 2011 are on the 360. In the real world, exclusives hold little weight.

Since the start of this gen, quite a few people have pointed out that exclusives mean very little (other than a 1 or 2 games that give a short term boost), but especially now when the libraries are so huge that almost no one cares about a single game here or there.

Yea, I sincerely hope it is #20 coz that means good, deserving games like Revelations, Darkness 2, Syndicate, 3D Land and Kart 7 can slip in between 19-11 above 100k. Oh well, time for the waiting game.

"deserving" Like you've played Uncharted:GA and even know what you are talking about? GTFO

Seems like a well received game, and I do like the franchise. I wish no ill will on it. Calm down

[QUOTE="Eponique"][QUOTE="charizard1605"] I wasn't talking about digital games, no. Those I know can't be tracked. I was wondering if systems and games sold through, say, Amazon, or Gamestop.com, Bestbuy.com, Newegg.com, and so on, are all included in the tracking as well.

They're included. And FEBs were available in stores - at least it was in Canada.

Any word on whether this NPD includes Wal-Mart? I'd guess Wally mart would give each console their own little boosts

Kingdom of Amalur did 330k. Pretty good I guess. Azura's Wrath did 36k and Syndicate did 34k

No

Those numbers have always been estimated, what the inclusion of WM does is that it let's NPD estimate the sales with greater accuracy.

Not to be picky or anything, NPD always included Walmart, now it has 100% accurate figures rather than precise estimates. :P

Exactly, theres a myth on SW perpetrated by certain people that NPD:

a) doesn't include sales from certain retailers - it does, but some retailers don't provide figures, but by comparing them to other retailers and their turnover it can estimate their sales very accurately.

b) NPD is like VGC - its not. NPD has a massive sample size, so it might be a fration of a % pt out at the worst, whereas VGC is simply guesses based off a few stores. All the companies use NPD as if it were gospel, as do investors, a couple of people on this board think they know better (well they do it for damage control tbh)
