The sales charts for US for the month of March are now out, and we know, at last, how all the major releases did. The big news? As with everywhere else in the world, Ubisoft's Ghost Recon: Wildlands topped charts in the US too, beating out every other major game in a month full of them. This means, then, that Wildlands sold more than 925,000 copies in the US in March- since we know that's how much Breath of the Wild sold, and it's sold more than Breath of the Wild.

Breath of the Wild itself is in second place on the charts, beating out Mass Effect Andromeda and Horizon: Zero Dawn, both, which follow it in that order. It is important to remember that digital sales are not counted for Zelda or Horizon, while they are for the other games on this chart, too- maybe the order would have been different if that had not been the case.

In other news, NieR Automata charted in the Top 10, at #9. You can check out the full charts for yourself below. I wonder what April's charts will look like...

Software:

  1. Tom Clancy's Ghost Record: Wildlands (Ubisoft) - Best selling Ghost Recon ever, #2 Tom Clancy title debut behind The Division.
  2. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Nintendo)
  3. Mass Effect: Andromeda (Electronic Arts) - Second best Mass Effect debut ever, after Mass Effect 3 (which sold 1.3 million in its first month).
  4. Horizon: Zero Dawn * (Sony) - Best Guerrilla debut ever, selling twice as much as their second highest debut, Killzone. That should put it around 648K.
  5. MLB 17: The Show (Sony)
  6. Grand Theft Auto V (Take-Two)
  7. For Honor (Ubisoft)
  8. NBA 2K17 (Take-Two)
  9. Nier: Automata (Square Enix)
  10. Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare (Activision Blizzard)
  11. Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 = 4.0 Remix (Square Enix)
  12. Battlefield 1 (Electronic Arts)
  13. 1-2 Switch (Nintendo)
  14. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard (Capcom)
  15. Overwatch (Activision Blizzard)
  16. Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Siege (Ubisoft)
  17. Super Bomberman R (Konami)
  18. FIFA 17 (Electronic Arts)
  19. Lego Worlds (Warner Bros)
  20. Madden NFL 17 (Electronic Arts)

Thanks for sharing. Congratulations to Ubisoft on Ghost Recon. I haven't played it yet but it's clearly a success.

Great to see Nier in the top 10. :)

15 out of 20 are multiplats, multiplat is where the moneys at. Nice to see The Show up there since it's still the best baseball game series, sadly I don't think many in forums like sports games. And Guerrilla should ditch Killzone and stick with Horizon from now on. Can't believe but not surprise how GTA is still selling.

I find it funny that the top selling game in US is a game where you shoot brown people. Not that I care play whatever you like, I thought it was humorous incase somone gets triggered.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Until NPD tracks full digital as well as physical sales, I can't take it very seriously.

Heck yeah, both Wildlands and Zelda and super fun. Congrats to both, well deserved. Nice seeing 1, 2 Switch and Bomberman make the list too.

The new Ghost Recon game is like the worst game I've played in the recent memory, granted I only played the Beta but man it sucked so much!

Glad to see others did well tho.

I'm surprised that Mass Effect has done so well, given the incredible negativity - which was not fair - surrounding it.

I'm suprised that both Ghost Recon and Mass Effect are doing very well despite having 71 and 70 meta respectively. I guess the names sell.

I wonder whether the patches for Andromeda may affect the recent Mass Effect's sales. They may have fixed many of the problems with the game.

Good luck for NPD getting the digital figures. Many publishers or retailers are unwilling to give these figures to NPD, so we do not have an accurate record in the U.S.

How would NPD know? I have a digital download uplay key.

http://www.polygon.com/2016/7/12/12158862/npds-tracking-reports-to-include-digital-sales-for-the-first-time

NPD's digital tracking service will still pull sales data from PlayStation Network, Xbox Live and Steam. (Services like Battle.net or uPlay are not included.)

...

NPD's service will remain focused on sales of full version console video games (and their PC versions, assuming they have them). Riley said the goal "was to combine full-game physical with full-game digital, keep away from the DLC, keep PC games separate because that's a whole different ball of wax," he said.

NDP is missing EA Origin, Battle.Net, Ubisoft's uPlay, ARC and etc.

Also, Wildlands taking the top spot WW is cray-cray. Had about zero hype around the web (including news focused websites). Seemed everyone was going bonkers with Zelda.

The thing is, if it plays anything like the Beta, it's like a military focused GTA online co-op. With all the negatives and positives that brings. Just with much worse travelling gameplay (the vehicles controlled like ass in the Beta, not sure if that was changed). So I suppose it does make sense, when you consider GTAV keeps on selling like crazy every damn year just because of the online appeal.

Dunno. Still feels like it came out of the blue because after E3 it wasn't even mentioned that much. Congrats to Ubi I guess, just hope this doesn't mean AC will now become a "shoot people game" too lol

@Desmonic: to be honest, I'm not really into much of Ubisoft's output outside of Rayman and hopefully Beyond Good and Evil. :/

For me, Michael Ancel is the best director Ubisoft has.

All the same, it's great to see a healthy industry with variety hitting the charts.

@charizard1605:

And about Zelda's digital sales :

"*Data regarding physical sales of games are from the NPD Group. Data regarding digital downloads of games and combined physical/digital life-to-date numbers are from Nintendos internal sales figures. All numbers, unless otherwise stated, are specific to the United States only."

http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20170413006259/en/Nintendo-Switch-Fastest-Selling-Video-Game-System-Nintendo

So, Zelda sales are above 1.3 mil. with digital in NPD.

Hahahahaaa You know what i find funny about this Horizon been beat by Zelda,is incredible because a month ago several lemmings here were crying user base to downplay the fact that Halo Wars 2 flopped sales wise...lol

I told them that the userbase was there for bigger sales,Zelda in charting which even if you combine Switch and Wii U sales probably don't have half the user base the xbox one has,let alone the PS4.

Chalk another one for tormentos,if the userbase is there and the game doesn't chart is because no one wanted it.

From what I gathered, neither Zelda or Horizon had their digital sales counted. And Wildlands only had Steam sales counted in terms of digital (no U-play for example).

I think this is due to the NPD group still not having all platforms on board to count digital sales. Though I can be wrong on this.

You guys and this digital sales thing. So you're saying Xbox owners didn't buy Halo Wars 2? Because despite not having digital sales tracked for Horizon, Zelda, MLB the Show, 1-2 Switch, and Bomberman, these games managed to chart. What if these games had digital tracking as well? You think Halo Wars 2 would fare any better? What evidence do you have of that?

@Desmonic: Well then I think HZD did sell more than Zelda, because there are going to be much more HZD digital sales than Zelda because when people go and pick-up their Switch, they automatically buy a Zelda copy. At least most of them. PS owners had no reason to be in the store unless they prefer hard copy's, and that group is decreasing every day if we have to go by Ubisoft numbers.

@Zero_epyon: No I don't think HW2 would sell as well as HZD, or Zelda that's ridiculous. What I'm saying is that I want to see a distribution of number of people buying digitally, and retail. And that if HW2 was only digitally on PC then they didn't have any other choice then to buy digitally, while PS/Switch owners could buy a copy in retail of HZD/Zelda

@tormentos: Did they count digital HZD?

From what I gathered, neither Zelda or Horizon had their digital sales counted. And Wildlands only had Steam sales counted in terms of digital (no U-play for example).

I think this is due to the NPD group still not having all platforms on board to count digital sales. Though I can be wrong on this.

Correct. They're tracked by publisher. And the ones being tracked are Electronic Arts, Activision, Ubisoft, Capcom, Take-Two Interactive, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, Square Enix and Deep Silver.
