But maybe thats the problem. They brought it back on the DS and the wii version doesnt have enough on top of that. I would have licked unlockable characters to play through as, even though they dont change anything. Get all the toads, maybe even play through as the koopa kids when u beat it. Maybe a scramble mode, which scrambles the levels? kind of like Mario kart mirror mode at the end. That sort of thing.Thought it'd get a 9.0 like the DS version considering this one adds multiplayer.

Yah, but judging from the video in the other thread having multiple people changes the game a lot. You can hurt eachother, and jump on eachother, and kill eachother :P
8.5 seems spot-on for this game. I played trough it with a friend and while it's a great game, it's simply too similiar to New Super Mario Bros. (the DS version). And the superguide thing is actually a great addition. If you're a good player you won't ever see the the guide block. I never actually saw it.
Suprised it got that high. Who is Nintendo kidding thinking they can release games based on old gimmicks that were good at the time but don't translate into the NOW period trying to pander to that old Nostalgia sense. Same thing they tried with Twilight Princess and it failed. Mario Galaxy is a good Mario game, they should stick with that formula. It may be sad to say it, but I think the 2D Marios are a thing of the past. The new ones JUST DON'T WORK.get-ka12You act like NSMBWii (or TP) scored poorly. Both got great scores.
Um no? why would nitnendo release a game in Aus only, we have a pop of 20mill, and prob only 4mill have a wii (of that). The only region that gets region only games is generally japanUmm, isn't this Australia only?

I called it. Gamespot simply will not give a 2D game like this, without great graphics and the almighty online, AAA no matter what this day and age despite how good a game really is. They've lost their gaming souls to corporate business practices.

This.

Braid? Unless you are saying it's judged on different standard, even though it's better than most of the full priced games.I called it. Not for being Mario and Zelda games, the scores are not great.
Why Nintendo would give themselves the handicap of making a game 2D instead of just making an all-out good game like Mario Galaxy 2 is beyond me, and Twilight Princess was a sad disappointment, just as bad as those Philips CD-i titles. (kidding, of course not, just wanted to say that)
Twilight Princess just tried too hard to "dig up the past" in a way. Same with this new Mario game. The New Super Mario Bros game they made for DS a couple years ago is the same way.

Well then, good score and great price. If it only costs $35 and the difficulty has be ramped up then we have a win. Seems like Ninty is looking to make a lot of money from wiimote sales off of it though.

In the modern days of game reviews, anything but a 9.0 or higher is crud to some people.
[QUOTE="Bigboi500"]Braid? Unless you are saying it's judged on different standard, even though it's better than most of the full priced games.Yep Braid was probably judged by a lower standard against other downloadable games. Read the review, the reviewer even complains about the game not looking as good as Galaxy. :?I called it. I think they're sending a message that says something like: "Don't make games like this anymore unless they're downloadable or we won't give it a 'superb' score no matter what.". Gamespot and just about every other gamesite is in the business of pushing graphics and technology these days it's pretty obvious. Them handing out AAAs to short shooters like MW2 and ODST pretty much signifies that.

I think it's solely because Nintendo doesn't play as dirty. Less hype, they don't blow up the expectations and empty promises as much, less deals with reviewers, less media attention. That's the feeling i get. That they just want people to buy the game cause of what it is and not because of some tricks. Could be wrong though.Braid? That could be it, Nintendo doesn't need to wine and dine reviewers because they know the game will sell great no matter what while most other titles heavily rely on hype and score to sell well. I doubt Ninty offered plush hotel rooms or shameful shwag etc. for this review.Even if NSMBW had scored higher there's no way it would have a chance at GOTY anyways with the amount of focus given to much larger blockbuster type games out this year. Scores don't mean anything to me anymore and haven't for a long time now in the modern media age, I'm just calling it like I see it.
[QUOTE="DJ_Lae"]Who the **bleep** is Randolph Ramsey? 8.5 sounds like a decent score, though, given that the game is extremely simplistic in visual design. Gameplay sounds solid, which is the important part.KungfuKittenWould You rather have more complex visuals?
A little makeover would be nice imo.
OMG I just watched that review... fantastic. It looks amazing, its tough, and has plenty of single player, i'm preordering this right now. I had it pegged as some multiplayer game that was going to be easy.

I personally love how it looks, but the lack of CC support it's disappointing.

I fully agree, we'll have to see how well the motion works, but I can't imagine it not being a hindrance in a 2D platformer, they usually demand a bit of precision.
The Super Guide thing shouldn't be there though, everyone should suffer some old school difficulty
