NSMB Wii 8.5 Gamespot

I am honestly scratching my head at people saying this game is suck because it only got an 8.5. What else is there left for the year? Does it matter? NSMBW is still a great game. When did 8.5 become 1.0?

This is gonna be a great game, probably my second favorite this year to UC2.

But this is also SW and its all about competition here (hence the title "system wars") and this game really needed a 9.0+ to make the wii's 09 game line up heremore competitive.

But whatever, I only come into SW because I enjoy all 3 systems and I use this place as a kinda joint board to hear and disscuss all 3 systems without needing to go back and forth between those 3 seperate boards, plus you get modded if you mention one system in another systemsboard even if its just casual talk.

With my reasons being said I'm not gonna critisize the SW mentalityand the way things are done here as I'm not really part of it and am just minding by own buisness and enjoying my stay :)

I think they're sending a message that says something like: "Don't make games like this anymore unless they're downloadable or we won't give it a 'superb' score no matter what.". Gamespot and just about every other gamesite is in the business of pushing graphics and technology these days it's pretty obvious. Them handing out AAAs to short shooters like MW2 and ODST pretty much signifies that.

Nah, it was AAA. The latest poll shows it, some old ones show it too. Various Sheep commentaries show it also. They are just damage controlling by showing one of the polls in which AA won.

I'll take several AA and even some A and lower games over alot of AAA games. I personally voted AAA but that was on my own score. I didn't have any expectations to GS' review of it as I rarely pay attention to them since most of the games I like get bad scores here so the reviewers and I obviously have different tastes.

And there arn't alot of sheep here who are going to say that 09 wasn't a weak year for the wii. But it had many quality games and far more games I like than 360 or PS3 had.

Say what you want, but the game was put out as a multiplayer game. That's why they're advertising the game as a multi-player game - not a single-player game.

Wrong.

You don't seem to understand the difference between "hype" and "score predictions". What people predict as a score isn't directly related to anticipation. For example, I'm super super pumped for this game. It looks extraordinarily fun (and it would seem it is according to reviews). But if I had to make a prediction, I probably would have guessed 8.5 or so. I mean, this game is a console 2D platformer, withlow-tech graphics, sticks to an oldsimple gameplay formula and doesn't have online. Those are all things critics have to take into account. But do a majority of gamers care about any of that? Maybe online, but other wise no. I know I sure don't care about any of those complaints. When I want a Mario all I want is tight gameplay, level design and just overall fun. And in that this game is superb.

I called it. Gamespot simply will not give a 2D game like this, without great graphics and the almighty online, AAA no matter what this day and age despite how good a game really is. They've lost their gaming souls to corporate business practices.

so its ok for sheep to hype games and pretend like nothing happened when a hyped nintendo game flops.. but when cows and lemming hype a game and it flops,its front page news and people start getting called out and owned. im starting to see sheep logic now....avoid ownage at all costs.jessesalinas

I don't think this is a game you should be taking "TEH SRS BZNZ!". And I don't get the no classic controller complaint. The game is played with the wiimote on it's side like a traditional NES controller. Why does one need 2 analog sticks and 80 buttons for a game that probably only uses like two or 3 buttons?

In all honesty, I really don't care if this game is considered a flop or not, nor do I care about any other game for that matter. I just think it's a ridiculous that people here aren't even debating the game itself, rather what it is to be considered in context of this forum and this forum alone. I'm down with honest debate about games but this certainly isn't it.

Suprised it got that high. Who is Nintendo kidding thinking they can release games based on old gimmicks that were good at the time but don't translate into the NOW period trying to pander to that old Nostalgia sense. Same thing they tried with Twilight Princess and it failed. Mario Galaxy is a good Mario game, they should stick with that formula. It may be sad to say it, but I think the 2D Marios are a thing of the past. The new ones JUST DON'T WORK.get-ka12

There's no way the old formula wouldn't work today. If anything, people were waiting for a classic mario game like this for a long time. They should've added more content and it would've been a solid 9 or 9.5, but i'm sure people who decided to buy this game won't change their minds at all. Mario games usually have infinite replay value.

Thank you. That basically summed everything up perfectly. And Jesse thinks all the sheep are hurting because of this score...I wonder if it would hurt him to know that I have a higher Gamerscore than him on his precious HD console and I'd rather play this than anything on the other 2 consoles this whole year.

What? Super Mario World didn't have EXTRAS and SECRETS? The game was practically filled to the brim with secrets and extras, maybe you haven't found them yet because they are 'secret.'

In so many of the levels there are multiple ways to even beat it. You can even get to the end of the game without even doing a lot of the regular progress if you perform some of the secrets. There is tons of bonus content in it.

What I mean is, when SMW came out 18 years ago, the game was on the cutting edge of its technology, much like Mario Galaxy was two years ago. However, this new Mario game is not, and it's just a nostalgia throwback rather than a grand new trailblazer in the series like SMW was in 1991 and Mario Galaxy was in 2007. Those two games pushed the limits of their technology for their time period, that is what I mean. Rather, this new game is almost like Four Swords. It is not an epic new tour de force, it is relying on things that are quite obsolete.

Yup, you absolutely can use this argument for all systems.

There is a need for system wars, and that's to debate about games and platforms. That is not what mostpeople are currently doing on this forum.

"It's not a flop in the real world" is not damage control, it is perfectly logical truth. We all live and play games in the real world, presumably. If you think either the quality of a game changes, or your personal level ofdisspointment increases simply because a few random internet forum-goers made score predictions, you should probably reconsider your thought process.

Nintendo is the most frusterating company in the industry. They are able to create such great games and fun experiences, yet they drop the ball on the most simple things. I facepalmed when I heard they wouldn't be supporting Gamecube or Classic controllers for this game. Really Nintendo, realy?! You pay plenty of homage to past Mario experiences, yet you monopolize the controls to onl the Wii mote (rotating the Wii mote horiztonally to play is almost the same, just worse, than the Classic controller). Makes absolutely no sense. Then there's the lack of online play. I wouldn't be too upset about this but with combination to the lack of controller options, it just really pisses me off. These things seem like they wouldn't of taken much time to work out, yet once again, Nintendo just ignores them and drops the ball resulting in lower review scores and a less enjoyable experience. Normally, I wouldn't be too worried about something like this if it was on any of the other consoles because I know a patch would be on the way. But wait a second, it's Nintendo, and when was the last time they ever spent time patching a game after release? Very disappointing.Trinexxx

Wait, so are you complaining that a Wii game uses the Wiimote? And that also its ment to be played like an old-school 2-D platformer which is why you play with the wiimote horizontal? I can't believe that people are actually complaining that you can't use the GC or CC controllers. It's a Wii game for crying out loud.

Dude, we get it, the game flopped, you've posted that more than enough in this thread, Wii has no AAAE's this year we know. Stop acting like 8.5 means its a crap game. Still a great game and it will probably be the game I enjoy most this year.

I'm not trying to somehow argue NSMBW out of it's flop status, because as I've said, I don't care. Really, at all.

What I am arguing though, is that this is, well, stupid. Why do people debate about things that aren't functionally applicable at all? So Mario is a flop here, that's great. But that means absolutely nothing. So why even mention it? People clearly havereal opinions on all this, so why not have real debates?

Nintendo games have been really really easy lately (zelda tp, new mario bros ds, metroid fusion come to mind) which is a real shame bc i love challenging marios, zeldas, and metroids. Remember playing mario 3 and world and just getting my ass kicked and then when you finally beat it it's like the greatest thing ever. Feel so accomplished.

Mario Galaxy was a nice exception. That game kicked your ass at the later levels and it was soo much fun.

So all i ask from NSMB wii is that it ups the difficulty from the DS version. pls for the love of god make the game harder.
