I'm running a 4080 Super now so I'll honestly wait until there's a game that comes out that would require me to upgrade rather than upgrade for the sake of upgrading. Regardless, that 5090 pricing is high, especially since I would want the ASUS ROG variant anyway. My PC pays for it's new components by itself anyway, since I use it to 3D print materials to sell. It's a solid system.

I have money for the 5090 if I choose to buy it. I haven't made up my mind yet. If the benchmarks and reviews of the 5080 are underwhelming, then I will be more inclined to go for the 5090. However, if it is around the same performance as the 4090, it will be at a level that I was already happy with. No need to let Nvidia milk me if I am not needing more performance. The 4090 is still a beast.
Any many, many times more powerful than anything the PS5 could do. The 4090 is indeed a monster. I won't be upgrading my 4070Ti Super for a while yet either.
@last_lap: My upgrades are always driven by whether I am meeting my desired quality based on my setup and the games I am playing. I don't buy hardware for status. If I cared about that, I would have bought a 3090 instead of a 3080 back then.
The progression of upscaling tech and frame generation has made it so people can get more out of their hardware. People are less likely to upgrade under these circumstances. Without frame generation, I would definitely be looking to upgrade to more powerful hardware to achieve my desired smoothness.

@last_lap: Quality scales. Even if I don't have the very best hardware available, it still puts me on the upper end of that scale and the higher up the scale you are, the more diminishing returns. That is why the 5090 is not a necessity for me to hit a high level of quality. There are also certain standards for quality gaming like 60fps being a minimum for frame rate. If you are not hitting that target, of course I am going to laugh and make fun of your hardware whether it is console or PC. However, I am not going to make fun of someone who is hitting 100fps vs. 240fps because they are already achieving a high level of quality.
You either care about quality or you don't. If you don't care about quality, that is fine. Just do your own thing and my comments should not bother you.

Assuming that I was american, that is 3,100 dollars saved. I am not american though so those things would ammount to roughly 4,000 euro. That is a lot of money. Money I instead used for philanthropy, books, a garden, a gym set, an ASUS ROG Ally.
