Nvidia finally adopts FreeSync support!

Nvidia will soon be rolling out driver updates that add G-Sync support to existing FreeSync/Adaptive Sync monitors.

UPDATE: Nvidia will allow you to turn VRR on ANY FreeSync/Adaptive Sync monitor.

Nvidia is only calling it G-Sync on monitors that pass their strict requirements.

Example: Nvidia validates that the monitor can operate in VRR at any game frame rate by supporting a VRR range of at least 2.4:1 (e.g. 60Hz-144Hz). There are a ton of monitors that have a smaller VRR window but work just fine.

About time. Now if they could only do that for all FreeSync monitors.

This is good news. However, I am more interested in Nvidia's support of HDMI 2.1 and the VRR associated with it. I want to make full use of my future TV when outputting from an Nvidia card. They are still pushing BFGD displays and that is not encouraging.

Thank god. Ive been looking at buy a decent 4k Monitor/Tv for a future graphic card. I've got 6gb 1060 but my misses always steals my PC to play the Sims. So I wanna give it to her. I cant afford g-sync but at least I can get free sync now.

I bought a 1440/144hz monitor with freesync for a 390x. I've been waiting for an AMD graphics card that I would pick over Nvidia simply cause of the Freesync, but now, I'll just go ahead and buy that 2060.

This is a good start but I'm looking more towards the new line of LG OLED's that will be coming with HDMI 2.1. Gives me a reason to upgrade my 55" E7 model in the room.

Nice! Wanted to get a G-sync, but always thought the price just wasn't worth it. This justifies the 700 I did spend on a 34" Samsung QLED.

You can turn on "G-Sync" on all monitors that support FreeSync/Adaptive Sync via DisplayPort. The thing is that Nvidia is calling it G-Sync for the 14 monitors that passed their whatever tests. The other ones are VRR.

G-sync is still better than freesync though. It's more expensive sure, but it's better.

Might not be after HDMI 2.1 Displays are out. And I think CES starts today, i bet there's lots of HDMI 2.1 Displays at the show

AHHHH I got excited because my Ultra Wide LG monitor has free sync. Then I read in link 'a select range of free sync monitors'.

I don't see LG or Samsung monitors listed.

not really, G-sync provides better monitor to gpu communication "syncing" and your still using it and if your happy with it still no problem then.

Actually the Gsync module in the monitor handles most the grunt work. So there is less overhead for the gpu. Also Freesync requires you to have 48 fps or better while G-sync its 30 or better. So if 4k at 30 fps is the goal Freesync will not work for that situation.

Nice! Glad NVidia is getting their ducks in a row for HDMI 2.1, which I fully suspect is going to use AMDs implementation of frame syncing in some form or another. Everyone wins here, at least down the line just a bit.

You can still turn Variable Refresh Rate ON in the Nvidia Control Panel. Nvidia is supporting VRR on FreeSync monitors they are just being picky on which ones they call G-Sync for marketing purposes.

NVIDIA will also give an option to everyone that owns a FreeSync monitor to enable VRR. However, you will need a GeForce RTX 20-series or a GTX 10-series in order to enable VRR.

OMG the false shit you just said at the end. The BenQ EW370U 4K montior has Freesync from the range of 24hz-60hz. So quit with your false BS please. Seriously if you talk about tech make sure you know what you are talking about!

Dont get into a fit now..... So there are newer and higher end freesync monitors now that can go as low a 24hz, that's nice. At least its better than the vast majority of freesync monitors are only able to do ie 48hz+.

The way you typed it read like a fit. that type of a response .... All you had to say was....... 48hz minimum for all freesync monitors is incorrect, there are newer and more expensive higher end freesync able monitors able to get to 24hz. with ie link and it would be just fine.

Gysnc is overrated as hell. Getting the damn thing to work as intended is a headache of its own because it depends on the game. Wished they would have done this sooner so I could've bought a cheaper Free-Sync Monitor. Wished I would've just gotten a 144hz monitor instead and called it a day.

I'm pretty sure Freesync performance depends on the display not the standard itself, different monitors/TVs support different frame rate ranges. Then again I could be talking shit as I don't own one.

G-sync is absolutely amazing. Just spend the extra, it is worth it. I've had it since November and it wows me every time, it is a treat for the eyes. Yes, the extra cost sucks, but it beats the alternative of having a weak GPU AMD and a cost effective monitor. (freesync)

Tough call but G-sync is a phenomenal tech but unfortunately for us that like the higher tier cards, we are stuck. AMD doesn't even have anything in the pipeline for us from what I understand. So that being said, no, we have no choice but to accept the value and to be honest, G-sync is such amazing tech that I don't mind paying that Nvidia tax. (And I still don't like Ngreedia, the way it's meant to be paid)

Now that I have a 3440x1440 120Hz monitor I just want to push every game to that resolution and framerate, it's amazing.

Really, the result amazes me, even in older games.

In newer games it's not always easy to get that performance at that res, but I tend to drop a lot of settings just to get that result.

Difference between 60FPS and 120FPS is night and day, just like 30FPS to 60FPS.

Not really. No one has actually demonstrated anything superior other than the ranges that they operated when they were first introduced years ago. Now, Freesync (or what it really is, standard VESA adaptive sync) is pretty much the same thing as g sync minus the nvidia proprietary hardware.

Now they just need to dump Nvidia Shitworks
