There are zero high-profile Android games out there, so in the end, it'll just be a really expensive PC gamepad.

Lack of high profile games didnt stop 360 from selling :)
Also I feel like we must give this device a chance, lack of high profile android games is caused by the fact that you dont have a device to play them on (cellphones without proper sticks and buttons will not cut it). Now though Ouya and this thing comes and I believe that it will greatly encourage development of games on android.
I'm just being realistic. I'm not bashing a platform here. Heck, I own a Android phone, but I hardly play any games on it. The fact is, Android really can't offer many good games that need a dedicated gaming device. Sony Xperia PLAY flopped, so I really don't see a bright future for Nvidia's Shield, nor for Ouya.
I guess it's pretty clear Nvidia made a "backup" feature on Shield if the Android gaming part doesn't deliver.
I see your point, but Im trying to be optimistic (as opposed to you being realistic) :) So I think it might be the other way around - Android cant offer a gaming device that would house good games. Now this is starting to change and I believe good games will come with those gaming devices. Especially given how easy it is to develop for Ouya.
