Don't know why people are buying them to begin with, that 10gb vram is going to be an issue sooner rather than later.
Because by the time 10GB+ VRAM usage becomes common, I will have already upgraded to a better GPU (RTX 4080 or whatever). So, why would I want to pay more for extra VRAM that I am not going to be using for a while? When I do need it, I will want more performance anyway.
The vast majority of people don't upgrade every card cycle, and average vram requirements are probably going to jump up once the new console gen kicks off.
The Xbox Series X only has 13.5GB of its 16GB available for games, the Xbox Series S only has 10GB RAM and games still have to work on it too. A 10GB RTX 3080 technically already has more to work with than the next gen consoles since its 10GBs completely dedicated to VRAM and the CPU can have 8-16GBs of system RAM. I also figure that by the time games start pushing a lot more than 10GB VRAM on PC the RTX 3080 won't be able to play the game maxed/high at 4k 60 even if it did have the extra VRAM due to the lacking processing power. Just look at AMD cards with more VRAM still performing worse than Nvidia counterparts with less VRAM at higher resolutions.

@eoten: "In a few years that PC you could build now for the same price will still be playing games on high to ultimate settings while console titles will be dialed back to low and medium settings."
What PC can I build that matches PS5 specs for $399? Don't include PSplus subscriptions since that money spent is made right back with "free" games and discounts on games. And consoles only get better with time. Devs optimize games better for consoles. PCs are the ones that will be dialed back, when comparing a $399 PC to a $399 PS5 after a few years. PC definitely has it's advantages, and faults, but for a price. Consoles have convenience and bang for buck as a huge advantage.
No, I can include PS+ because you're still spending that money. What they give back are products you paid for with your PS+ supscription. You don't think PC players get, or have access to free content? We get way more F2P games than console and never have to second guess whether or not the games we play now will be backwards compatible. Also, do you plan on getting a "pro" console upgrade when those are released in a few years? That's another $399. And since PC isn't tied into a single platform, there are always sales available. Also, Playstation titles are getting a price hike with new releases costing $70, not $60.
Forget F2P games, we get actual free games on PC from Steam, Humble Bundle, UPlay, GOG and especially Epic Games. We get titles such as World War Z, Watch Dogs 2, Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Grand Theft Auto V, Remnant: From The Ashes, A Total War Saga: Troy, Assassin's Creed Unity & Syndicate, Hitman 2016 and Civilization 6 completely for free. Hard to justify that PS+ subscription now that PC regularly gets free games and you can get even more games on top of it by subscribing to programs such as Humble Bundle and Twitch Prime (which cost you nothing if you already have Amazon prime).
