The only reason i was interested in it was because of 16:10 resolutions. But they screwed that up. I like the game installs...BUT i'm not an idiot. I'm not going to install every god damn game and nor do you have to. I'll probably only install JRPG's.

People really over exaggerate how loud the 360 is. If people can't wait A FEW SECONDS for a game to load, there is a problem. To many people this gen are graphic whores and very impatient.

The game installs improved most games alot. GTA 4 took 10 seconds to load without installation, and takes about 4 seconds with installation. Besides, since it's for "casuals", why would you even care?

I'm not a fan of Avatars, but I like NXE made the GUI easier to navigate.

And the only game I'll install in Mass Effect...whenever I get around to playing it again.

Wow 6 long seconds. The whole thing isn't for casuals. I'm sure not only casuals will use Netflix and most casual probably won't install. NXE was targeted at casuals but it can still appeal to core gamers. It shoulda never been targeted at casuals in the first place.

So far all the games I've installed run way more smoothly. Fable 2 practically runs without a hitch installed and the load times for it seem significantly shorter than other installed games. Installing Gears 2 seems to make the texture popping go away. And Fallout 3 I noticed inconsistent load times, some seem to be the same length as before such as the initial loading of your save file while others like loading new areas are twice as fast.

As for the dashboard its more streamlined and doesn't lag loading the menu like the old one did. The placing of ads in the spotlight menu instead of all over the dash is great. Plus the whole thing just runs smoother. Pressing the guide button doesn't take forever for the menu to pop up. The marketplace is a little screwy right now and not much is loading right but that always happens when theres high traffic on Live, thats more of a problem at Microsoft's lack of servers than a NXE issue.

Yeah, like I enjoy the sound of a small jet plane taking off in my living room. I have a 20GB 2007 360 and I'm buying a new arcade version and just swapping out the hard drive. I hope those are quieter.

How does the install effect Halo 3? Is it just loading times or what?

I'm about to install Halo 3 myself, but I read a hands on impression comparing loading times and apparently Halo 3 is worse when installed. The sound of my loud sound system flushes out the 360's noise.

My HDD is 120gb with around 80gb left. There is a complete list of games installed loading times compared to not installed and some games like Halo 3 are worse when installed. I'll probably like the new look in like 2 weeks.

I don't really see what all the hype was about to be honest. It's just a neat little overhaul as far as I'm concerned. I'm in the UK so no Netflix and I don't have enough HDD space to install many games.

Here's some features off the top of my head:

1) Group chat (party mode). Similar to how HOME touts the ability to 'hang out' with a group of your friends, then jump into a game together, Parties allow people to chat and share media with one another. And unlike HOME, you chat NO MATTER WHAT YOU ARE DOING. Playing Gears 2 and want to talk to a group of 7 other people who are doing other things? You can!

2) Streaming NetFlix movies. This is huge. For as little as $10 a month, LIVE Gold members can get 12000 movies streamed instantly to their homes, without a limit on how many movies you watch. The 360 is getting first crack at streaming HD, too. So for the price of 2 rentals, you could watch 200 movies, if you wanted to.

3) Avatars. Allowing people to see each other's virtual avatars was so popular for Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft couldn't help but follow suit. Too bad Sony is the last one to join the party.

4) Installing games. Not only does this eliminate the advantage Sony had over MS regarding disc swapping, the games will now play quieter, which is a big plus. One of the 360's design issues is it's volume, and if you play installed games, they will be 7db quieter.

5) Selecting DLC from any PC. This is just plain convenient for those of us who sit at our work PCs all day dreaming about trying some new demo or whatever when we get home.

6) Cleaner look. Hell, I liked the old look, but hey... everyone seems to like the way Apple does things presentation wise, so Microsoft followed suit.

7) Improved resolution options. Lots of people have PC monitors hooked up to their consoles, so this really goes a long way to making sure everyone has a good experience regardless of their monitor.

So that's just some of the things that are neat about NXE. If the features that came to the Xbox came to the PS3, Sony enthusiasts would be cheering from the highest mountain, so your tone is somewhat absurd to me.

My 360's disc drive was never to loud unless I was playing Fable 2 then it sounded like a mini meat grinder odd some reason. As for the NXE I'm not overly excited but some of the features do seem like decent ideas IMO.

I swear, I see this guy post in System Wars on a day to day bases. I assume that anyway; when I pop once awhile there's his post about whatever. lol

But anyway, are we really including "it'll attract casual gamers" as an argument? I don't know about you but I have a Netflix subscription, and so do a lot of my gamer pals on Xbox Live do. And I always find myself chatting with them even during my single player experience. To watch movies together, and have chat parties is something I find exciting. While I'm playing Fallout 3, another person playing GeoW 2, Skate, Lumines Live, Tales of Vesperia, NHL 09, or Fable 2 we can all still keep in touch. Good lord, I still have a group friends who like playing Final Fantasy XI on the Xbox 360. While I gave it up about 3 or 4 years ago it's good to still keep in contact with them while they adventure and I play a different game.

It's not bad. I mean some things are a little annoying (going through friends lists, achievements and things of that sort) but it's also a nicer looking layout too. I apreciate it. Avatars are still kind of growing on me, but I wish they were more flexible like Miis too. (on the face I mean... or options on how to make them look, I wnat mai Yoda, Luigi, etc! ) anyways... the update's a welcome edition.

The updated menu is nice and modern looking, but the only real feature I love is the ability to install games and play them quietly. It will more then likely extend the life of your system especially your disc drive.

Are you an idiot? Is MS forcing you to use netflix to watch movies? Is MS forcing you to install games? It's extra, and it's free, your complaint is stupid. I like the fast menu. I also happen to have a netflix account and now I can use it to watch movies on my big screen tv. Since I DON'T NEED to install any games, I won't but if there's a game I'll be playing for a while, like Fallout 3, I'll install it to make it a little faster.

the installs of games, party chat. Nothing more. Everything else is asking to cough up money to MS on over priced "stuff" while you enjoy video ads on the UI.

Nelson already debunked the complaint that scrolling through friends takes longer because they now have an avatar and a background. You can move from friend-to-friend noticeably faster now than before.

I like the NXE upgrade, unfortunately I haven't been able to examine it quite good since I had to come to work, but I will when I get back.

The only thing that really disappoints me it's the netflix service, I mean it's a great add on and it's definitely a good competitive advange over the PS3 but come on it's only available in the U.S.??? MS keeps braging that the XBox has the biggest community and all , however the services are limited, sure all north americans get all the glory of LIVE, but what about the rest of us??? we would also like to have Netflix but we can't because of licences issues, come on that's the way to treat your community??? there are solutions for problems like these, why do they not try to look for them?

I had to sign to xbox live using a friend's U.S. address so I could use the majority of the benefits of the marketplace if not, I couldn't even download demos and even with that I can't even download the MP maps for GeOW because they are "not available for my area" come on MS you can do better than this!

IMO everything is a lot smoother. The menues and the guide button feel a lot better and more fluid. Putting games on your HDD is reason enough for this to be a great update. The 8 people chat is ridiculous, cause its awesome. Seeing where your friends are and what games they are playing and quickly being able to jump in. There is a lot of great stuff. Stop being biased and saying avatars are like the Miis. Miis stink compared to avatars IMO, and I owned a Wii.

Thread number 24 for NXE.

HOwever, I agree, the setup was designed to attract casuals.

Can't argue about the new features though, I hate the sacrifice of speed (Scrolling through friends, XBLA, achievement lists) for looks though.

Nelson already debunked the complaint that scrolling through friends takes longer because they now have an avatar and a background. You can move from friend-to-friend noticeably faster now than before.

It's slower man. It takes a second to read the person's name now as well. It's overall a slower process, If you hold the Left Analog stick to the right, you won't know WHO your passing.

Yeah, M$ Major Nelson debunked nothing, because we didn't have this to see for ourselves.
