[QUOTE="KC_Hokie"]Nothing new with dashboard nor in game ads.razgriz_101

still gonna say if im paying for Gold a service i pay for i expect there not to be any ads at all....dont want to see in the spotlight section an ad for something like Honda or was it Mazda..but i remember that ad being on my dashboard.

Is actually annoying cause some of those ads end up playing when you hover over them....Seriously what has things like that 1.got to do with gaming or 2. relevant to the xbox userbase :S

I dont mind game ads as its relevant and keep people up to date bout new releases and incentives to pre-order.

I don't even pay attention to the dashboard ads. And if their revenue goes towards security, maintenance, etc. I'm all for them.

One more reason for me not to get a 360. God Microsoft, I want to play with my friends, but you're not making this an easy decision.

With the amount of propaganda that lemons spew on a daily basis, it's only fitting that MS will officially pimp them out. :P Oh well that sucks for 360 owners in general, at least they have some wonderful old gems like Reach and Lost Odyssey to fall back on.

thats the whole reason we kinda pay for gold :S sorry but i think its horrendous we have to pay for a service to play our games and still have ads on the dashboard for non game related things.

Its not really acceptable.Instead of increaing the price of live and throwing us ads they should have either lowered it or kept it the same.Sorry but i dont take your whole ooh b-b-but the security.

MS most likely pay about 1/20th of what they earn from live to keep Live ticking over and the rest is sheer profit. So wouldnt start trying to pul that excuse but i can haz better security cause you and i both know that live is a cash cow for MS that is basically designed to be an essential part of the 360's eco system.

PSN has Ads too you know and Home is almost nothing but Ads. Second you can't stop companies from using Ads to buy their products. If they make it non-intrusive I have no problem using from them. Also no game you pay for is going to have in-game ads nobody would stand from that because Activision would have tried it years ago.

With Xbox's New In-Game Advertising, Engagement Is the Goal

"Users of Microsoft's popular Xbox Kinect gaming console"

MrSelf-Destruct

:o its no longer the Xbox 360. Its now the Xbox Kinect. Fear for your exclusives lems

Lol. I was just about to comment on that. Since when did the Kinect become the console?

I guess since E3, I'm really questioning myself should I even consider buying the 720 or the Kinect U. MS is starting to get more causal than the Wii was.

I just saw the video and I can't see anything that bad about it. The idea of voting for things looks cool. The Ads you have to go and click on them they don't automatic go right in your face. I find it funny all the haters commenting about the video on youtube. lol

I agree with you, and I have a feeling this is only gonna get worse with the ads. Next is in-game pop ups and surveys before you can advance.

You guys really think games that you pay $60 are going to have In-game ads? Really. If so Activision would be the first to try that. Second you might see Ad signs in games but full Ads. I find that hard to believe.

most are complaing, cause why should we pay and still have to put up with ads.We pay for a service for a reason, like WoW or any other game that would ever think of introducing ad systems they would get ripped to bits just like XBL.

If we as a paying customer pay for something then we expect some give or take, this is essentially like say my phone provider telling me that ohh look at this as soon as my phone boots up it just doesnt happen for a multitude of reasons.

Sure vodafone have texted me over the past about competition in sync with McLaren F1 but thats cause of a sponsorship agreement and i get passed down some good out it like a free competition for a meet and greet at silverstone during the F1 through thr VIP programme.

This on the other hand just looks completely horrid and a poor attempt at trying to virally market products which really dont need viral marketing.

Look I am not for Ads at all but look at Cable TV you pay for that right. There are lots of Ads on there. If you go look on PSN and XBL dashboard you'll see Ads already there. The future of advertising is going to be viral marketing I am afraid to say. If you have to click on the Ad to bring it up to full screen I dont' see the problem don't click on it.

thing is a cable supplier doesnt own all the channels the cable/satellite provider is paid off them to host the channels where they make profit from them and we pay to use the tech to watch said tv, where as MS own all the assets related to Xbox live in relation to the server farms and the core system which is paid for off our subscription and recording record profit year on year.

You cant dress this up any other way than a really really pisspoor attempt at trying to go viral. Its already virtually despised by everyone except the really die hard fanboys.

I think I can imagine what it will look like.

Imagine, if you will, that you're fighting an epic boss battle in Dark Souls.

*Game suddenly pauses, a rugged looking man appear on screen*

Man - "Hey there kid. I see you got you're hands full with this here boss. The only way you're gonna win is if you stay on top of you're game, son.

And what better way to keep yourself on top and energized than grabbing a Hotpocket? None my friend".

Choir - "Hotpockets! Its you're only hope!"

*the man disappears, the game unpauses and you're instantly killed by the boss*

Such bright future...

You had to know a MS apologist had to show up sometime. How anyone can defend this is beyond me. That YouTube video is pathetic. And even if it is a completely optional feature, it just goes to show what gullible saps Microsoft thinks it's customers are. I own an XBOX, but I bough it used. Most of my XBOX games I bought used. I did pay $40 for Live but have no intention of renewing. PSN offers all my multiplayer needs. Point is I avoid as much as possible giving MS any of my money. Since the days of the IE vs. Netscape war I've had no respect for that company.

Sounds good for Microsoft, but not for the consumer. Doesn't seem Microsoft cares about their gamers at all. They make enough money already, and we get enough ads flashed at us as it is, and now you got to get it on your Xbox as well. Shame.

Look I am a realist you can't stop Ads from showing up on most everything now. Like I said you don't click on the ad you don't have to watch the full screen advertisement that is what it looks like to me. You pay a Cable company for TV and you see Ads dont you. Don't think for one moment Sony isn't going to have lots of Ads on PSN very soon too. They are going to be showing up on the Vita too I bet.

In case you haven't noticed. Sony is copying all of MS's business moves... If Microsoft get Interactive Ads (and makes money of them) it won't be long before Sony and even Ninty follow suit. I'm sorry if I offended your beloved MS.

Ya know, back in the day, cable TV had no commercials but now, not so much. G'head, fight the good fight but me thinks it's a losing battle and we all know that we'll never, ever, evah see Sony & "N" charge for their on-line service and no way, no how will they try something this low.

Anyhoo, I could do without but it's really no biggie in the larger scheme of things.

Eh, the SW pastures, they overflowith lately. :P

Look I am not trying to protect anybody but I think it's only fair to see what comes of this before bashing any company first. You know companies are in the process of making money but still If these Ads ruin my gaming experience on XBL then I will bash MS and quit buying their products and services.

I can just imagine Activision using this feature in their COD games. Every time you come across an add it the tells you to buy more COD games. Then they add other adds where you need to pay to unlock it just to see what it says, in which it would say again to buy more COD games.

The difference is, I can ignore Home. The Live dashboard is full of ads even when you pay for them and yet you cannot remove them. Why do you think these companies are so desperate for these Summer of Arcade specials? Their game will be showcased on every 360 players UI, along with Mountain Dew....

And Alan Wake would like to have a word with you..

I don't think I've even seen a console with so many apologists in recent memory.

So charging $150 for something that costs $50 to make isn't enough revenue? I really don't like the direction Microsoft is going in lately. It's like they hired Wall Street bankers to run the Xbox division.

Who said Xbox has no exclusives? It's the only console where you can play your ads!!

Isn't that in home and completely optional? This sounds a lot like it's thrown in your face farm more so than with what you explained where you have to choose to go to the ads.

wow. the kinect is going to be the death of the xbox. maybe not in terms of sales (since casuals will eat up all the kinect stuff) but in terms of being a legitimate system for hardcore gamers.

Can I use foul language to make the adds go away like I do my TV?Jynxzor
But on TV advertisements serve a purpose like providing revenue for the Show your watching.

But for this I have no idea what the purpose is I mean if they had advertisements that should make the services free that is what advertisements do in most cases.

That is why Premium Channels have a fee because they don't get advertisements.
