The HD-DVD addon is selling horribly, many stores still have their launch shipments of it.

We know the million HD-DVD players selling 5 million is bogus.  It is 1.7 (including 360 add-on)  http://hddvd.highdefdigest.com/tags/show/Hardware ,but do you have a link to back up your statement?

That is actually pretty darn inaccurate, averaged its around 23-24 per movie and the lower priced HD-DVDs and Blu-Ray Discs go for $20.

i just hope that everyone here realises that ny post is the worst newpaper ever. they are completely without merit and credibility. the only reason people here in new york actually buy this (ass-wipe)newspaper is because of the sports section and the fact that it costs 25 cents. even when they give the paper away for free, not many people take it because it's a joke. we'd rather spend a dollar a paper for credible accurate information ( new york times and washington post.)

250,000 and 125,000.  Can you see that neither HD-DVD or BR are going anywhere anytime soon?  New releases for 1 movie title on DVD consistently sell over that many, sometimes on the 1st day.  This info is just up to '04 and what you have to still go up against: http://www.dvdinformation.com/News/press/101904.htm

If this really is the last generation of video software I'm guessing DVD will be there until the end.

I'd hardly call selling 250,000 Blu-rays a sure winner. Yes it sold twice what HD-DVD did, so in that regard it is beating HD-DVD, but Blu-Ray has to sell enough for it to not be considered a failure as well. Both of those sales figures are pretty low compared to how many people are on this planet that could be purchasing them. How many of those sales went to video stores that are renting out the disks? It'd be easy to conclude that HD-DVD's fewer number of titles might be selling more per movie vs Blu-Ray. If HD-DVD only released 2 titles, and each sold roughly 60,000 vs Blu-Ray releasing 10 titles and each selling 25,000 who would we consider the winner? (These numbers guesses, but you get the idea). I wouldn't throw in the towel, or declare a winner for either just yet.

just a question for blu-ray fanboys and cows, where the hell where all of you last year when hd-dvd was slaughtering blu-ray by the same amount of sales as is now? also, just because someone is ahead in sales for 2 months for almost nearly a year, does NOT mean your winning. it just means that you having a good couple of months.

We have. Pretty sure current events > history. BD has PC's, Apple, PS3, and home players right now. HD-DVD has home players, and an optional add-on for 360 that's not selling very well. In fact, not one mention of the add-on has been brought up in sales report since the first weekend it was released. Did beta ever outsell HD-DVD two months in a row? Also, in the article, the guy from Universal says "Not so fast", because the sales are about equal now. So... let me get this straight. Blu-ray hasn't been out as long, has equal sales now, and is consistantly outselling HD-DVD now... but it's not something to worry about? Remind me never to ask you for stock tips. You probably bought a crapload of dotcom stuff right after the crash, amirite?

[QUOTE="Nike_Air"]Fox , Disney , and Sony pictures exclusively are going to be to much for Univeral.

Runningflame570
Exactly, Disney has a huge following even by adults, Sony and Fox are two of the biggest studios out there and Sony actually made more than any other Hollywood studio last year. Universal while it has some really amazing movies can't compete with the inevitable exclusives for Blu-Ray like Pirates of the Caribbean, Spiderman, Underworld, Ghostbusters, Bram Stoker's Dracula, The Patriot, Men in Black, The Legend of Zorro, The Da Vinci code, ect. thats just from Sony too...add on Fox and Disney and it will be extremely hard for HD-DVD to win.

vs * 12 Monkeys * Army of Darkness * Batman Begins * Charlie and the Chocolate Factory * Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire * The Interpreter * Kiss Kiss Bang Bang * Lethal Weapon * The Matrix * Mission: Impossible III * The Polar Express * Poseidon * The Thing * Troy * Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory iono will have to wait and see by next year. universal seem to have some strong titles.

Wow that wasn't a biased article or anything.... "If you look at the top 25 selling DVDs last year, 23 were released on Blu-ray," Fox's Feldstein says. "Just two were exclusive to HD DVD." Yeah....but that doesn't mean only TWO of those movies were on HD DVD at all! HD DVD had 2 exclusives that didn't hit bluray and bluray had a few exlusives that didn't hit HD DVD, but 90% of the movies were on BOTH formats. Anyway, do you people REALLY want Sony - the maker of illegal ROOTKITS and exploding batteries, the company that will say anything to get you hyped for their product even if it's a complete fabrication - to win the format war and shove even MORE DRM and illegal rootkits down our throats? Really?

Thanks for proving my point. Even with HD-DVD launching first, Blu-Ray has caught up to outsell it 2 to 1.

But now that Blu-Ray is in full swing retail wise (and thanks to PS3) it's outselling HD-DVD.

Please explain why HD-DVD is being outsold 2 to 1 for 2 months running, without any change in sight.

 @ you.

Low release in titles. Who knows if HD-DVD suddenly releases a dozen titles in the next two months there may be an explosion of HD-DVD sales. It's still a crap shoot at this point.

But now that Blu-Ray is in full swing retail wise (and thanks to PS3) it's outselling HD-DVD.

Please explain why HD-DVD is being outsold 2 to 1 for 2 months running, without any change in sight.

 @ you.

w/o final numbers you're guessing bluray has caught hd dvd sales... then again, being a cow, ALL you do is guess and pass it off as fact...

the ps3 launch would be my guess... that and the fact HD DVD really hasn't started mass marketing yet... they don't need to...

when they do you'll notice... but deny... like cows always do...;)

wait for it....

The similarities between HD-DVD and Betamax are more numerous than between Blu-Ray and Betamax. Think you need to revise that post.

"Trade magazine Video Business reported today that Blu-ray outsold HD-DVD in February for the second month running. According to the magazine's figures, roughly 250,000 Blu-ray movie titles were sold in February compared to only 125,000 HD-DVDs. In January movie sales for each format were roughly the same." http://gear.ign.com/articles/772/772518p1.html

Ouch. Just ouch.

yet they're celebrating TWO months of sales outpacing hd dvd...

pathetic...

it's a long way from over, but everyone knows the industry follows the lowest overhead...and that's hd dvd...

like i said, keep the dream alive...;)

wow tango, i do not know what is more sad. Hd dvd having a huge head start over Blu ray, or Blu ray out selling Hd dvd. me i would say Hd dvd having a huge head start over Blu Ray but still failing on sells atm.

just wondering, when these companies find out the total sales for blu-ray and hd-dvd's, are they only counting movies or are they adding in ps3 games sales as well ( because the games are on blu-ray, this is a valid question.)?

secondly, if blu-ray is doing so well, they why are blu-ray hardware exclusive companies defecting and making combo players and computer drives. case in point:
LG super multi blue player standalone unit.
LG combo computer drive link
and now
Samsung link 1
              link 2
link 3
for link 3, scroll down to see both articles about samsung and the samsung combo player.

just a question for blu-ray fanboys and cows, where the hell where all of you last year when hd-dvd was slaughtering blu-ray by the same amount of sales as is now? also, just because someone is ahead in sales for 2 months for almost nearly a year, does NOT mean your winning. it just means that you having a good couple of months.rage8669
We were telling people like you what would happen when PS3 launched, what has subsequently happened that you are performing damage control on. HD-DVD is being slaughtered, the add-on didn't do enough to help it stand up to Blu-Ray, there are more videos on Blu-Ray than HD-DVD and more in the pipeline for Blu-Ray than HD-DVD. We said all of these things and you bashed us for them. So tell me now, who was right in that debate?

HD-DVD is dead. Mostly due to the PS3. Hell if you go to almost any Bestbuy, they only have Blu-Ray players on HDTV's, and the HD-DVD is chilling on it's old stack that almost no one is buying. Blu-Ray FTW!! :D

everyone should know, blu-ray is out-selling hd-dvd 2:1 in the us only. blu-ray is outselling hd-dvd in japan as well but i don't know by how much. europe ( which includes australia, new zealand, and greenland) is a different story with hd-dvd outselling blu-ray with 85% of the market share. link
still think hd-dvd is dead?
