All of those games are quite good, IMO. What is bizarre is that all three of them were previously PS+ titles this year.

I imagine if one of these "freebie" deals was negotiated by MS/SOny, the other side could easily enough get the same deal?

I don't realy know how it works, just guessing :P

Right? Because there is nothing bizarre about a GWG game showing up on PS+ or visa versa, the 2 consoles have a shit load of multiplats between them. In the case GWG it's more likely, because PSN gets more indie games period.

It's disappointing to 360/Xbone owners like myself to give Walking Dead away twice on the same month and we got MGS5 Ground Zeroes last month on Xbone and we got MGS5 GZ back in June on PS+. It's not like it's a cross buy situation and Walking Dead is a "bonus" freebie on Xbone, Walking Dead counts towards the paltry two games we get a month on GWG.

That's two GWG repeats close together (Walking Dead & MGS5:GZ). At least they aren't just giving ONLY one new game away on Xbone like they used to though.

I didn't realize this but the PS4 PS+ games have caught up to the 360 GWG games (58 each). We already knew that the Xbone's GWG list was much, much smaller (a paltry 22, about to become 24 with these two additions) due to the deliberate GWG Xbone late start by M$ and M$ choosing to release a single new game a month on Xbone. We already knew the PS3 PS+ was super long (close to 200) because that's where the "freebies" started after all.

I just was surprised to find out that the newly released 2013 PS4 console caught up with PS+ titles to the last gen 2005 360 GWG list in terms of "freebies" (both sitting at 58 games).

It's not a big deal, but definitely noteworthy as time passes on. inb4 quality/quantity. As far as quality, obviously using metacritic, Sony takes the cake there as well. You release three to four more games than the competition, you are going to have a lot of high quality releases as well. But to each their own. I own every single GWG game released so far on both 360 and Xbone since I've been an Xbox Live subscriber for over a decade.

I think this month is okay, but I'm just disappointed with the Walking Dead and MGS5:GZ repeat situation.

Valiant Hearts is superb, you silly cow.

I think it came with PSN+ earlier?

Yeah, Valiant Hearts was free on PS+ way back in March 3rd this year. While there have been a few exceptions, it's actually really pretty standard for GWG to get games late. Typically, GWG gets the games after PS+.

They technically don't have to give us shit for free. Complaning about free games. Oh the fu**ing irony!

I'm actually looking forward to Valiant Heart and the first season for Walking Dead. I never beat the first season so I'm happy to get a chance and Valiant Heart looks like a really great game. Stop being so butt hurt OP.

So you get The Walking Dead on both systems, and not even the second season, a worse version of a game they just gave away, and a meh Ubisoft game.

I'll use my free 30 days later.

Say wuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut ?

Valiant Hearts is probably the best game Ubisoft released in the past 10 years.

Dirty little secret: "free" games are only as good as the library of the console. In Xbox One/PS4's case, non-existent.

Best thing is these "free" games come with a price tag.

Would love to see people playing all their "free" games on PS4 when they stop paying for the service.

Even a 60 dollar game is more "free" than being locked into a service you have to keep paying for.

Anyway, I'm off to the store. Going to get Metal Gear Solid V and Super Mario Maker for "free".

Just to make clear, both Xbone and PS4 "free" games disappear when you stop paying for the service. You singled out PS4 which gave the impression that the Xbone GWG wasn't the exact same way, but it is.

Xbox jumped on board the PS+ way for Xbone. Which is why it sucks knowing that although the PS4 and Xbone are now identical in that respect (sub runs out, lose games), however in games per month, their is a massive divide (Xbone has given 22 GWG games, and PS4 has given 58 PS+ games).

Last gen older 360 is nice with GWG to keep if you are subbed, but the problem was getting super old games. They wanted more up-to-date games from publishers, and apparently pubs give newer games if the game are temporary. Hence the new Xbone GWG PS+ style subscription.

As I am not a PS+/Gold subscriber I could be mistaken.

But I really thought PSNs free games were bound to PS+ and you could keep GWG even if you dropped your gold subscription.

The situation is a lot better now than it used to be (i.e. paying the same price, soley for online play, no "free" games)... But I can't stomach paying for online when I have been having a better experience for free (no quotation marks this time) since the late 90s early 2000s. And I'd rather buy a single game for 50 than a full year of online play.

That game will never go away, the other thing feels like throwing money down the drain.

Oh, well I am both a PS+ and Gold subscriber (I've been with Gold since the original Xbox). I also of course game on PC since the 1990's, so I feel you there.

GWG rules changed when the Xbone released. Current gen GWG, you lose your games. If you drop your Gold Sub, you do not keep your Xbone GWG.

Every now and again, I'll see someone remember the old GWG on 360 (called games with old since they got less games and older games back then) and they didn't get the memo on the new GWG for Xbone.

To get newer games, Xbox execs changed GWG to compete better with PS+. Sadly, while now GWG on Xbone requires a sub to keep the games, they aren't doing well on the release schedule by comparison to PS4 PS+. I do enjoy the discounts and $1 Flash sales tbh.

It's all good.

When a brand gives you "free" games......you won't always want those presented. So my advice to you TC....don't play them if you don't like them. Apparently some other people are interested in the games. Yay opinions. Yay choice.

Stop whining.

Next months GWG is bad simply because the MGS game was already given out and the Walking Dead game is on the 360 + One. Valiant Heart is definitely a good thing though.

You really think that?

Around 50 games for XBL Gold in a year (the 360 games are kept when your membership runs out)

50+ for PS+

£20 for Gold/PS+

Just think of how many hours you will get from that small amount of money. Most of the games you will probably never play again once you have completed them anyway. I take it you hate P2P MMOs too...

I see no value in renting games and paying to play online.

If I want to game online I'll get it on PC, I won't have to pay for a subscription. I'll get a server browser, perhaps even more players like in past BF games, ...

I can see your point and how you see value though :)

What about F2P MMOs ?

Ah I see. It makes sense, older games you got to keep. But now they have newer games like PS, but you can't keep them.

Well I can totally see value for people that are interested in paying for a long time (that's what companies want anyway, longtime subs). But for me it would be a shame having a console with X amount of games vanish... If you stop paying or Sony/MS decides they change the rules. That irks the collector in me. Though my collections are pretty modest. I think I have around 20-30 games per console. (I mean like as an average for all the ones I own, as I do not have that many yet for my newest consoles :p)

When does an Xbox store hold sales ? Are there periods like say Steam sales?

This month isn't too great but it has been pretty good for the last couple of months. Now if only PS+ start to release more AAA retail games it might compete.

Yeah, I don't know why the notifications aren't working, lol. (I didn't get this one for example)

Regarding the subs, yeah, they want those to keep a'comin, fo show.

You are right, the prospect at one time the games will vanish does suck...but I get to play a bunch of games I wouldn't have ever played otherwise.

I'm a collector too. If I come across a game on these services that I like and don't own (rare that happens), I have gone out and bought a physical copy. I don't rely on these services as a collector, to me it's more a trial on playing quality games I typically would have passed up. For instance, MGS5 GZ I bought for $20 brand new the week it came out.

Yes, Xbox and Playstation have store sales. In fact, Playstation has more sales than Xbox for whatever reason (It used to be the opposite last gen but something shifted). The prices aren't nearly as good as Steam (sometimes they are though), save for when Sony does Flash $1 game sales. Usually though, there is a few games here or there that are digital only that I might nab on the cheap.

The trick though for these deals is on Xbox you have to have XBLG to get the "Deals with Gold" prices.

On Playstation, they will give you a discount in the store and another discount on top of that if you have PS+.

I think this has to do with the PS4 having about 200 more games than Xbone, so Sony may have more options with publishers and developers not available to Xbox (to a point, the reverse was true last gen).

Heads up, yet another movie is made available for free to rent right now. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/movies/batman-under-the-red-hood/8d6kgwzl64qs It's Batman: Under the Redhood HD video. Xbox always have these free shows and movies rentals, it's too many to count right now, along with those free game rental type games at no extra cost. Curious to see what free rental type games and movies will be offered next month.

@Blabadon: The Walking Dead is an award winning game, so it's great. Valiant Hearts is also a great game. My only problem with this months offerings is I already own all of these games. So there's nothing for me to download this month. Hopefully the PS4/PS3/PSVita has something to offer.

You make some very solid points.

It can be a great service now to test games out. And the ones you really want anyway, you'll buy.

I'm just really sceptical. I also found Playstation sales to be lacking compared to what can be found on PC. And a lot of the same games and discounts returning.

But I'm sceptical about using Steam too. I have a big library on it. But will it be there forever ?

I know I'll get to keep my SNES and be able to play the games on it for eternity. But modern gaming is just a lot weirder in that regard.

Want to say the games suck? No problem...Want to complain about the fact that games which a lot of people like are being made free? ........really? I dunno...this thread seems kind of disturbing to me and I love a good ol fashioned company bashing.

I'll download mgs for my 360 but I already played that demo on xboxone and ps3 so I assume it will be the same thing more or less.

@schu: The problem is that the free games have a catch 22. Aka you have to spend $60 every year to maintain the right to play such games.

It's a nice bonus, and it takes some sting off from playing for online subscription, but don't pretend it's free when it's really not.

OK, see that makes a little more sense. At least you are questioning the premise.

Some of the same people, yeah. It's got the same 2D engine too, so it looks great as well.

Its gameplay is different from Child of Light, but still very fun !

Yep, it is older "crap" that PS+ already gave away first.

Not sure how GWG is "better" getting the same "crap" after PS+.

Boring inaccurate drive by trolling? Probably not a real PS+ subscriber, and maybe not even a GWG subscriber.

I have been with XBLG for over a decade (since original OG Xbox 1). I'm glad they give GWG games away for my 360s/Xbone as I have every GWG game, but there is nothing better about getting the same PS+ games later on GWG.

I have every GWG game released since the beginning but PS+ already gave away this "trash".

Personally, I don't this GWG is trash. I'm a little disappointed in the GWG repeats (already got MGS5 on Xbone and Walking Dead across both systems) across the 360/Xbone machines since I have both 360 and Xbone.

However, PS+ gave these games away already. If anything, getting late games after PS+ doesn't make those games "better". Maybe PS+ is just trash IF people willfully ignore the releases on one service (PS+) while blindly praising another service (GWG).

Wasn't Telltale's The Walking Dead getting GOTY nominations when it came out?

Yeah...like 4 years ago.

I'd think most people who were interested in it would've already bought it by now. Especially since the entire first season has only been $25 since Day 1.

Not to mention literally every major Steam sale for the last 3 years has offered the game for $7.99 or $9.99

Going to admit I expected worse. It's not so bad. And Valiant Hearts was excellent, in my opinion.

Yep, I've seen it cheap on Steam and XBL. Heck, I even saw Walking Dead the entire season for a tiny $5 on PSN in various halloween sales which worked out to a tiny $1 an episode.

Halo 5 could be released on Games with Gold and people will still find a way to complain.
