The VR headset has had a very popular and successful kickstarter. It met it's own goal of $250k in less than 12 hours after Kickstart launch. 0.0

Valve and Epic games have shown support for the headset as well.

  • "What I've got now, is, I honestly think the best VR demo probably the world has ever seen"
    John Carmack, id Software

  • "Needless to say, I'm a believer... We're extremely excited here at Epic Games to get the Unreal Engine integrated with Oculus"
    Cliff
    Bleszinski, Design Director Epic Games

  • "I think this will be the coolest way to experience games in the future. Simply that... that big"
    David Helgason, CEO Unity

  • "Im really looking forward to getting a chance to program with it and see what we can do.
    Michael Abrash, Valve

  • "It looks incredibly exciting, if anybodys going to tackle this set of hard problems, we think that Palmers going to do it. So wed strongly encourage you to support this Kickstarter.
Gabe Newell, President and Owner Valve

Wow no posts from System Wars? I am sad. This is going to be the next big thing and people rather talk about dumb troll topics about crap we already know.

Looks pretty awesome. This is the thing John Carmack has been working with right? I had watched an interview with him and Brad Shoemaker from Giantbom and he was talking about a VR device.

This should of been the industry's focus as a "different" way to play games all along over motion controls.

This ^. Kinect is a kinda cool concept but the tech is just not there right now, or too expensive to actually make it DECENT.

Kinect is very good. The current Kinect is dumbed down a lot by cheap hardware and it's dependence to ancient console. If Kinect used a little bit better hardware and not attached to an ancient console, then it would do mighty fine.

This is an awesome idea. VR has been around for years but it's always been so crappy.

$300 plege gets a dev kit and a game. Hopefully that means retail will be under $300. I'm very interested in such a product.

I'm certian they could have a setup phase similar to screen width and brightness settings in games now.

Number 1, number 2, number 1, number 2, number 3... lol

John Carmack also wears glasses, so I imagine there is some effort towards your needs.

It is sitting near $800000 in one day, I assume they bought maybe a *few* for themselves. Why would they spend thousands of their own money if they have the confidence that it would reach its Kickstarter goal which clearly it is destroying.

The fact that they got their hands on the device already implies (at least to me) that they already gave their money to the guy.

Now the Man is Reaching out to us the Gamers and Other Indie Developers or Would be Developers to try the Device out themselves before the Final Product.

dude, Anyone can get their hands on the DevKits they're handing out through Kickstarter. Just as long as you actually paid for it.

You don't have to be a developer to get an early version. I'm sure the consumer version will be cheaper, just like how version 2.0 will be better and version 4.0 will be the best version.

Very interesting, hope things will finaly start moving for VR in mainstream gaming (how many decades have VR been around for?). FPS seems like the ideal genre to make the push. But $250k is a strangely low amount, making me think it's more of a marketing stunt? Hope this work outs :)!

But it is also motion controls. Furthermore, it could also be cool with more advances in motion controls integrated with this. It's all pushing for the future, you shouldn't sh*t on motion controls just because of their primitive state. Everything has to start somewhere.
