Atlus and Vanillaware are teaming up to release an HD remake of Odin Sphere for the PS4, PS3, and PS Vita.

Odin Sphere originally came out for the PS2 in 2007. It's newly announced HD counterpart is dubbed Odin Sphere Leifdrasir, andwill not only feature high-definition visuals, but also new enemies, bosses, battle actions, animations, and maps.

Enhancements have also been made to the combat system, and new features have been added to make the overall gameplay smoother and faster. Odin Sphere's original 2D scrolling gameplay is still in the HD version via "Classic Mode."

Odin Sphere Leifdrasir will release in Japan on January 14, 2016. There is no word yet for an international release. While we wait in anticipation, read IGN's review of the original Odin Sphere, where it was hailed as "one of the best RPGs to come out on the PS2."

In for the Vita version, if Dragon's Crown and Muramasa is any indication it should be in capable hands. Can't wait to see more of the gameplay changes.

Better be 1080p60. The original's biggest problem was slowdown during gameplay.

Saw that part,still doesn't why can't they make a sequel instead.

The company seems to dislike sequels. They've made 6 games (all new IPs), a straight up HD remake with Muramasa, and a re-imagining with Odin Sphere. Odds are this is the last we see of it at all. Its also important to note they are working on a new game in conjunction with Atlus, which is supposed to be shown off in September, so maybe that could be a fabled sequel with this to drum up hype?

I'd rather have a Rogue Galaxy or FF12 remaster or HD

The vita is an interesting device. There are times I say "After this year is over, it's dead to me" but then games like Digimon, world of Final fantasy, and this keep me coming back.

I heard that when they released the game as a PS2 classic, word was that they eliminated its notorious lag out of the UK/EU versions, but the North American PS2 game was just as laggy as ever. Kind of curious as to why, since the games are basically PS2 disc ISOs running on a PS2 emulator. Was there ever lag in the UK/EU version? Is this a 50Hz thing?

Anyhow, have it on disc still for the PS2, so I never bothered with the digital PS3's PS2 classic myself, but if the price is right I'll definitely give it another shot with the proper presentation.

I can read fine. I just want to know what relevance Rogue Galaxy and Final Fantasy XII have in a thread about Odin Sphere.

HD Remake LOL I thought it was a sequel. Odin Sphere looks and plays really great on PSX2 emulator on PC. No need for this remake.

Like I said, you can't read. I'd rather have a HD remake or remaster of two other games. If you can't grab that concept, then I feel bad for you.

Nice, will be getting this. I missed getting the PS2 version back in the day.

I'll get this for sure day one. Also they already fixed the lag issue in the PSN version, so this HD version won't have any problems like that. I remember when this game came out and why I passed on it before (too many other games I had to beat at the time). I highly recommend giving this game a shot if you haven't played it already. Even just watching that gameplay trailer it looks a lot different (gameplay wise) than the Odin Sphere I played, in a good way.

It worries me when they don't even hint at a international release. But yes, this is a game I missed and would definitely like to play in HD. They should really opt for a PC Steam release, a lot of JRPG devs still underestimating the potential of PC for sales.

hahaha ... owned so hard. The sad thing is they were all looking forward to that, yet we don't hear any cries about it being cancelled because M$ would rather spend it's money on the NFL and expensive controllers. If that was Sony or Nintendo who cancelled an old game getting a reboot, people would be up in arms.
