Official 2008 PS3 vs. 360 game lineup comparison/discussion thread

I think the PS3's line up might be a bit better in '08 but not much. Metal Gear vs Splinter Cell (splinter cell has a better track record, for the record.), FF13 (if its comes out) Vs. Fable 2 (if it comes out). GT5 vs. well 360 has PGR4 & Forza already out, but you gotta give it to GT in this context regardless because of release date. White Knight VS Lost Odessey (two RPGs that we really need to see in action to judge.) Little Big Planet, Haze, etc VS. Ninja Gaiden II, Too Human, etc

Then dont forget all the Multiplats: Burnout, Fallout, Grand Theft Auto, Devil May Cry, Vegas 2, Endwar, Condemned 2, Soul Calibur, Silent Hill, Prototype etc

Both the 360 and the PS3 will have AWESOME line ups in '08. Who we really should be bashing is the Wii's line-up. Wii only owners miss out on a TON of great multiplats.

I perfer the PS3's lineup over the 360's since I'm not interested in most of those titles. However, I'll still get multiplats such as Borderlands and Sabetuor for the 360, unless the PS3 versions include trophies and same exact/better quality in terms of graphics and gameplay.

IMO PS3 has the best lineup. GTA IV will play a lot better on the PS3 because the controls will be much more comfortable on the PS3 than the 360. I played GTA VC on the X-Box and I found them too uncomfortable. Unless they make some hefty changes then I don't see it being better on the 360.

MS didn't release an exact replica of their previous gen's controller, like... 1 company.

Too Human, Ninja Gaiden 2, and Lost Odyssey are the essence of compelling distilled into digital joy joice.

Ninja Gaiden 2 is a definite buy for me. Thats my most wanted 360 game this year. The juror is still out on Too Human. It seems like it has a lot of potential. Hopefully it will have a better showing at this years E3. As for Lost Oddysey, I really dont see what all the hype is about. I mean, I like jrpgs and all but this game just seems very average. Hopefully im wrong. I will rent it to see how much I like it. I just dont think i'd buy it unless it was a budget title.

Here's a mini-preview I just read about LO in the Feb issue of EGM.

The Agenda:

Microsofts latest bid for role-playing dominance, Lost Odyssey sees Final Fanatsy creator Hinronobu Sakaguchi returning to very familiar territory. The game plays out much like a hybrid of FFX and FFIV, with a huge cast, turn-based combat, and an epicscore by FF mainstay Nobuo Uematsu. Where it stands apart, though, is in its emphasis on story. Developer Mistwalker brought in an honest-to-god novelist to flesh out main character Kaim's backstory through several dozen text-only vignettes.

Skeletons in the Closet?

Visually, Lost Odyssey is a bit rough around the edges. And its conservative gameplay (especially the by-the-books combat system) may alienate progressive gamers, as it essentially ignores all the advances the past five years have brought to the role-playing genre.

Seriously the PS3 has been gaining massive amount of momentum since the Price drop late last year. Sure the 360 was doing better then PS3 in America but the PS3 countered that by doing much better the 360 in both Japan & Europe. Last year will go down this gen as the BEST year for 360 gaming wise because quite honestly I have no idea how they are going to top last year which had Halo 3 undoubtedly the greatest Xbox brand game and the reason why Microsoft is still in the console business, along with Mass Effect & Bioshock etc.

The odds were against the PS3, I mean even the PS fans assaumed PS3 would be last in WW sales but look what happened. I believe that since Sony got their act together before the end of 07 and made better advertisements to promote PS3/games as well as releasing better quality games and most notably decreasing the price.

I just want to ask, what are the chances of 360 outselling PS3 worldwide this year when it couldn't achieve it last year despite everything the 360 had going on for it ?

The PS3 is well prepared this year with awesome features, established killer app games, bigger userbase and a better price point.

You have them mixed, it is obvious, games that 360 gets like Alan Wake, Mass Effect, Fable 2, PS3 could only dream of with its small worlds in its games like Uncharted

I think PS3's lineup is better: various games from proven franchises that made the PS1 and 2 sell what they sold. also, they appeal to larger audiences than 360's lineup.

So PS3 takes it easily.

Thanks for reminding me on Dead Island. Splinter Cell is a maybe, after I get my hands on Chaos Theory. And as for the rest, I'll wait and see what they'll offer once they come out. Other than that, my 360 is only useful for mostly multiplats unless the PS3 manages to have the same or better versions with trophies.

Of course, I'm definitly buying Far Cry 2 on the 360 IF there are no changes from PC to consoles (gameplay-wise).

Besides, there are old 360 games I can try out or continue playing...

I dont care if they are multiplats or not, to be honest. I can still look forward to them just the same. I could honestly give a rip, so long as the games I want to play come to the console I want to play on. Just because Assassins Creed is a multiplat, should I not enjoy it? I promise you its every bit as good, and every bit as fun on my 360 as it would be on your PS3. I posted up some info about Dead Space, where someone got some hands on time with it, so anyone interested in the game could read about it. Wait a sec, thats multiplat, too! So?

Fable is no FF, true, But FF isn't coming out this year (unless you're in japan). We get Lost Odysey which isn't going to be an FF, but at least it's coming out this YEAR. Indeed, Fable 2 will not be a small level, static, linear, non dynamic, without day/night/seaosn changes, with no use for the surroundings other than visual presentation, no NPC's AI, with turn based cofined combat

Of course Fable 2 will be nothing like FF13, Fable 2 is next gen in every damn way, FF13 is the same old stuff with better graphics, and hope it does not use FF12 fight system, because that would bring it a step BACK from older FF titles

Um Halo has always sold more and scored higher the MGS has. To say that it will slaughter the 360's entire library for the rest of this gen is a ludicrious statement. It won't even slaughter the rest of the PS3 games for the gen. As such a title has never come out in the second year of a consoles life and not have been surpassed :|
