It's clearly the fault of both the core 360 and the pitiful excuse for hardware that is within the PS3.
You should read the update:Update: Newsweek's N'Gai Croal takes a slightly different approach than Mr. Pachter, surmising, "We believe that Rockstar is having difficulty with both versions of the game, not just the PS3." In other words, no deals enforcing a consistent launch date across platforms, just difficulty in getting it ready on either. "It wouldn't surprise us if Rockstar and Take-Two had already all-but-delayed the PS3 version to triage the Xbox 360 version for this holiday, only to have their hands forced when, at yesterday's product review, it became clear to both sides that even the 360 version could not be completed this year to Rockstar's exacting standards."

Perhaps I needed a /sarcasm tag?I really hope not.
here is a article where one of the better known game analysts Michael Patcher says it was the PS3's fault

He says he thinks that its the PS3s fault.
Heres something to think about. Rockstar said the PS3 version was 1-2 weeks behind development than the 360 version. That would NOT cause a 7 month delay

Some game industry analysts said the delay could be particularly painful to Sony, whose PlayStation 3 has lagged behind both the Xbox 360 and the Wii.
In late September, Microsoft plans to release the other widely anticipated game for the holiday season, "Halo." But that game is designed to be played exclusively on the 360. Sony does not have an exclusive title that is quite so widely anticipated, making "Grand Theft Auto" even more important to the prospects of the PlayStation 3, said Evan Wilson, an analyst with Pacific Crest Securities.
"This is very bad for Sony and its ability to sell PlayStation hardware," Wilson said

I'm thinking it's more likely the fault of management more than anything.
That is true. 360 still has the mighty Halo but PS3 does not have a huge system seller this year. Madden is big but not as big as Halo or GTA. Sucks to be Sony lolSony = owned once again

i agree - they are in ALOT of trouble now, unless ms shoots themselves in the foot, they'll absolutely wipe the floor with the ps3. I suspect some members of SCEA are now looking at that window sill and wondering whether they should jump

I'm inclined to believe that, actually. I mean, Manhunt 2 makes me doubt how right R*'s head is.The REAL reason behind the delay, these are the facts not rumors
''As many of you know, earlier today Take-Two announced that GTA IV would be delayed into 2008. Well, the reasons behind the delay are now a bit clearer. Two Take-Two execs have shed some light on the delay, going on to say that the reason behind the delay were "almost strictly technological problems... not problems, but challenges". The guys, (Strauss Zelnick, Ben Feder) mentioned that they were "highly confident" that Grand Theft Auto IV would ship in the games new "release window" (Q2 2008).
When they were asked if either the PlayStation 3 or the Xbox 360 were the problem, they responded by saying "I know there have been rumors in the marketplace about frame rate and some other issues. We don't think it's helpful or beneficial to go into exact details of what the technological issues are. We're pushing the envelope on both the platforms." Looks like neither consoles in particular were the root of the issue causing the delay, I'm assuming that the PS3 version of the game being "two weeks behind" wasn't the issue. The "final say" in delaying the game was made by Zelnick, but he stresses that delaying the game was nothing that him, nor Rockstar Games took lightly.
When asked about the Xbox 360 downloadable episodic content packs, Zelnick said that the delay won't effect the deal, and they aren't "...gonna send money back to Microsoft." I'm assuming that the first episodic content pack will go on sale via the Xbox Live Marketplace extremely soon after the game is release - which is good! On a side note, the guys mentioned ManHunt 2. Saying they won't give out a release date until the game receives an "M for Mature" rating.
All of this information was released at Take-Two's "conference call" earlier today. ''

Its sales are ridiculous. I always consider it this way. Two years of Madden is more then 10 million sales. Halo CE and Halo 2 haven't even reached 10 million yet.

To be fair Sony was the one that introduced falty consoles. They also use Microtransactions as well. No company here is a saint. Sony is just looking bad because they went from the top to the very bottom.

If anyone is to be praised, it should be Nintendo. Not only are they opening up the market to places no one thought possible for a gamer, but their sales prove otherwise. Sony and MS are just singing the same boring tune that we've heard from last generation. Sony's just learning a lesson from their ego from being top spot but I believe they're mellowing out. Phil Harrison is solid proof. He went from "that is so next gen" to a great PR spokeperson now. They just need to drop Trenton. MS needs to learn to make better hardware and stop forcing deleopers to pay for additional content that a developer wanted to give consumers for free. MS and Sony are just as ugly compared side by side.

kind of funny how cows are blaming it on the 360 version not being done and having problems, but all the demoes, videos and screenshots have been from the 360 version...
this delay will hurt the ps3 much more than the 360. it was one of the few system sellers it had so less sales this holiday.
I think RockStar is covering something up about the delay, I know the delay was really caused by North Korea, MJ12, the Mole Men, the illuminati, Spain, Al Gore, Elvis Presley, France, and Big Foot.
The real cause of of the delay is Rockstar, it isn't the PS3s or 360s fault.
From the article...
"Certain elements of development proved to be more time-intensive than expected, especially given the commitment for a simultaneous release on two very different platforms."
I know I'm gonna get flamed for this. Please hear me out. I'm 100% certain that this game was delayed because of the Xbox 360. 100%. Here is why...
1. Streaming a game this large on a DVD9 is proving to be HELL for the developers in terms of keeping up a decent enough framerate.
2. With all the 360 crashes and issues, as well as reports of certain games causing crashes, I'm pretty sure RockStar ran into this exact same problem.
This is just my opinion. PS3 has not hadNEAR as manyproblems with game delays as 360 has had.Saint's Row even dropped down to single FPS on 360 and that game was delayed...Oblivion was delayed on 360...Mass Effect is delayed...
I'm sorry lemmings. It is the fault of the 360 architecture. Developers just can't get a good balance without REALLY working their tails off at it. 360 game development is proving to be a nightmare. Funny how PS3 has 100s of new games in the works when it isn't selling nearly as well. Maybe this is because PS3 is much easier to work with than previously expected.
Also, when RockStar has announced adate for a game release in the past, they stick to that date usually. Funny how this is basically the 1st time they've had issues...

Yeah, let's praise Nintendo with their continued Wii shortage STILL.
Wii architecture is so much simpler than 360 and PS3...Nintendo won't shell out the extra dough to ramp up production though. This is just ridiculous. Supposedly, in Japan, the DS lite has had shortages for well over a year now. That is just sloppy planning on Nintendo's part.
