maybe the real reason is that the ps3 is selling so badly in the US and japan because it is an overpriced piece of garbage so Take two assumed they would like to wait till after the holiday season so that sony has convince some suckersto buy a machine because of their fake price cut designed to clear out their old stock?valakos

Sure...it could never be that the 360 has limited space on the DVD9 and RockStar is having a difficult time streaming the huge world on it. Not that at all. I mean, Oblivion ran smooth as butter on 360 ...and guess what? Oblivion wasn't really even a streaming world. It had long-ass load times and major fade in with grass and whatnot.

By the way, is RockStar having to make this game run well on the core 360? If so, then that is just another reason why this game was delayed. Trying to stream a high-def, huge world game with no load times on a non-harddrive caching machine is just ridiculous and is proving to be a major pain in the ass for devs. I'm sure of this.

It's disappointing. That's really all I can say about it. I don't actually care which version is to blame, I just wish Rockstar hadn't set an October release date if they weren't relatively sure they could make it.

I mean, 6 months at least till release now. That's ages.

althought R* says both systems have challenges, but i believe its more like the 360's fault.

they have finished the games already but just having troubles fitting all the data on a single DVD.

damn stupid Core 360.

To be fair Sony was the one that introduced falty consoles. They also use Microtransactions as well. No company here is a saint. Sony is just looking bad because they went from the top to the very bottom.

Shusty_lives

You probably wasn't born when Atari 2600, NES, and Commodore 64 was around. That's the only reason I could see you making that statement.

Those systems weren't falty. The Cartridges were the problem. Two blows, two huffs, insert cartridge and press power. Ah those were the days.

BlackBond not old enough? Ha! I'll cya at the bar 8)

This is probably the best news for the Wii since it delays the behemoth that is GTAIV and gives the console a chance to do well this holiday season.

Also, I've started noticing this trend with next gen games. Not only are games costing more to make, but they are also taking longer. So many games have been pushed back already and it's starting to almost look like a trend.

"We think it is likely that the Rockstar team had difficulty in building an exceptionally complicated game for the PS3, and failed to recognize how far away from completion the game truly was until recently," Pachter said. "We think it is also likely that Take-Two had a contractual commitment to Sony that it would not favor competitor Microsoft by launching the Xbox 360 version of GTA IV prior to launching the PS3 version, and believe that any delay of the PS3 version necessitated a delay of the Xbox 360 version.

Great sig.

We don't know if it's like other GTA games. Nobody has played that much of the game, and previews thus far have been positive. It's obvious R* is keeping a lot secret for now. I can't wait for the game.

Is it right to presume that the delay is due to Microsoft not allowing Rockstar to issue the game as HDD required ?

Surely if it was a problem with the PS3 then they would release GTA4 this christmas on the 360, they can't release the PS3 version before the 360 version because of the contracts bettween Rockstar and Microsoft.

From the article...

"Certain elements of development proved to be more time-intensive than expected, especially given the commitment for a simultaneous release on two very different platforms."

I know I'm gonna get flamed for this. Please hear me out. I'm 100% certain that this game was delayed because of the Xbox 360. 100%. Here is why...

1. Streaming a game this large on a DVD9 is proving to be HELL for the developers in terms of keeping up a decent enough framerate.

2. With all the 360 crashes and issues, as well as reports of certain games causing crashes, I'm pretty sure RockStar ran into this exact same problem.

This is just my opinion. PS3 has not hadNEAR as manyproblems with game delays as 360 has had.Saint's Row even dropped down to single FPS on 360 and that game was delayed...Oblivion was delayed on 360...Mass Effect is delayed...

I'm sorry lemmings. It is the fault of the 360 architecture. Developers just can't get a good balance without REALLY working their tails off at it. 360 game development is proving to be a nightmare. Funny how PS3 has 100s of new games in the works when it isn't selling nearly as well. Maybe this is because PS3 is much easier to work with than previously expected.

Also, when RockStar has announced adate for a game release in the past, they stick to that date usually. Funny how this is basically the 1st time they've had issues...

id Software says No.

But whatever the reason for the delay, Rockstar aren't milkers, they will make a more polished game.

Actually the PS3 is selling more systems than the 360 is in Japan, but only in Japan.

Poop_Slash

No, it won't require a HDD on 360. Well, that's what we've been told thus far.

Will it be on 2 DVDs? Maybe.
