[QUOTE="SpruceCaboose"][QUOTE="carljohnson3456"][QUOTE="Giancar"] me too, especially by lemmings saying that ign is sony pro but man this is sooo fun, so much damage control for a score by "unbiased" posters :D

And also alot of gloating by "unbiased" posters as well... lol.

Hey, I have never wavered. I thought and said the R & C review was harsh and unfair, said the same thing about Boom Blox, and I am saying the same thing now. I don't have any faith left for GS scores, and I have not for a long time.

I hear ya. I was mad at the Ratchet score... but that was before Gerstman gate. After that I stopped taking them so seriously from GS. This review is probably way too harsh (havent actually played the game yet, lol) but I dont really even listen anymore. Maybe if KZ2 flops on here as well Lems and cows can rally together for an outcry of using metacritic or something. lol.

I just wanted to point this out with the length of the single player campaign.

1. Gamespot's review said "though it's certainly not long and should take most players around five hoursto play through." also "but there's not much else to keep you coming back once you've finished the short campaign"

Only 5 hours to play through the campaign. With not much reason to play it again.

2. IGN AU's review said "The game's 15 core missions won't take you more than ten hours to get through"

That's double the length to get through the game, that's a fair bit longer.

3. G4tv's review said "There are four difficulty settings to choose from, and the length of the 15-level campaign will vary accordingly. On normal, it can around 8-10 hours to complete, but that can also vary depending on how thoroughly you play each level, since there are skulls to find, black boxes to uncover and optional mission-specific challenges (destroy all enemy bases, kill all hunters, etc.) to complete, all in addition to your main objectives."

8-10 hours on normal, a bit more if played on legendary/hard and also a bit longer to get collectables etc. Again a fair bit more than just 5 hours and nothing more.

4. Videogamers.com's review said "The 15 mission campaign, which will take you at least 10 hours to work through depending on difficulty level,"

Atleast 10 hours, maybe this guy is just bad at RTS's, i don't know.

I know i'm just picking out a small thing i saw in the review that's probably not very important. But it seems that this review was maybe just a little bit rushed.

Its so blatantley clear GS phones it in most of the time. They are not what they used to be.Not by a long shot.

Coming to you LIVE from Metacritic Watch '09, an update on Halo Wars' progress! With now 33 reviews, Halo Wars is sitting pretty at 83, which is one point higher than it was before. Could it be that the game is getting favorable reviews?

Numbers don't lie, my friends. Who will post the "Really?... REALLY?" video this time? Will it be you??? :o

GS was just fishing for some hits in this bleak economic time.

Teufelhuhn

....or they just don't like the game as much as everyone else. :o

Personally I prefer the simplest explanation.

Hey just because those people on the other side of the pond hate on 360 and MS doesn't mean this reviewer didn't have some bias. Plus the game is fun and is vey well made. Just because this "person" had an opinion obviously warped by his utter hatredfor anything that is perceived not to belong on a console, does not mean we should take his word over any else.

So if you look at the big picture and many reviews, it is very clear all GS was doing was looking for its. Plain and simple.

And I could careless about this game too.

Whoa 6.5? Definitelylower than I expected. I'm still getting it because I loved the demo though. One thing I found weird is under bad it said the flood aren't playable. I might be mistaken but wasn't there no flood on harvest?

I find it interesting that in the review they established things I pointed out ages ago in the demo.

The cutscenes are amazing, and the game has the right looks and feels.

The main problem is the scale, there is a feeling of the whole thing being unnecessary... why build a base so you can have 30 units, you can just drop 30 units off from a forward operating base that doesn't cost 30 billion dollars to build because it already exists, just call pelicans in. It just doesn't make sense to have to build and maintain a structure of that size and capability for such a flimsy amount of unit points. The game would have done well for the canon of the Halo universe if it had taken the World in Conflict approach where you order units from somewhere else (like what you actually see happening in Halo games); "I know guys, we are investigating enemy presense in this location here. Let's build a huge mother****ing base there to house a recon size operation".

Other problems like the framerate are pretty noticable, if you think it shouldn't matter by console standards you are wrong. A frame rate should never jitter up and down, it should be consistant. If it is inconsistant the developers need to compensate, otherwise it is a flaw.

Not being able to play campaign as the Covenant is not a bad thing, but the game does lack content without it, and it is short according to the review anyway. A distinct lack of content is nothing short of disapointing. It means that this is basically a multiplayer game for Halo lovers the way I see it.

If my mates get it, so will I, but I expected more than that.

Everyone should use multiple sites for their reviews. And lately it seems GS is totally shaming themselves with outlandish and unprofessional critiques of games. Its sad really

Well, I guess according to Halo Wars, there are. The game has a fore runner structure. The Flood generally seem to hang out around those. If you're asking if the flood ran free in the early days of Harvest, no. There really is no explanation yet. You'll just have to play and find out what exactly is going on.

I'm not really so upset with their review. I just think that it's stupid people seem to be acting like Gamespot's review on this game is the only one out there. It's just the hater. What are you gonna do?

I'm actually kind of surprised by the reactions, it's pretty tame, I was expecting something on the scale of another Twilight Princess. That might have been the best day on System Wars, ever.

You have to understand that TP was a far more hyped game than Halo Wars.

Although I do wish there was another incident similar to TP, just to shake things up a little.

I never said you should take take this review as gospel, and I don't think anybody would say that (not even the reviewer himself). It's merely one review out of many, and one that falls pretty far from average. If you want to considerit an outlier (which it is), you're perfectly welcome to do so.

However there's a big big difference between disagreeing with someone's review, and claiming it was done purely to cause controversy. The latter is a completely unsubstantiated claim with no hard proof to back it up.

Sounds like Gamespot pulled a Gamespot. So lemmings, we doing Metacritic/GR, or sales now? :P

Why do any of those? - The anarchy vote was the smartest thing we ever did. When we place our faith in sites (like GameSpot) or aggregated scores that pull from those sites (like Metacritic / GameRankings) we're basically saying "yeah, some random guys on the internet know more about what makes a game fun than we do". - And sales are just that - sales. Popularity / sales success doesn't mean jack. Is World of Goo a crap game just because Wii Sports outsold it? Are sleeper hits like Zack & Wiki crap?

Obviously...

Sounds a bit far fetched to me, and that's because it is. The game was percieved as "fair" by the reviewer, and he/she stated what was good and what was bad, but then he/she also criticised legitimately bad points, at least from what I can tell from the demo.

I'd say that was the first huge awakening to reviews around here, people were literally flipping out, more notably the Nintendo fans, they were just insane, literally frothing at the mouth for Jeff's head on a plate. Everyone expected the game of the century with the return of a mature Zelda, even non-Nintendo fans were convinced it was going to be GOTY, but yeah, you get the picture, very crazy,

Everybody loves metacritic when a game they like flops. I think it's all pretty silly. If you like the game then there is nothing to be ashamed of. Hey, I love Too Human and I'm proud...despite crappy reviews. I'm still getting Halo Wars and trying it out for myself.

Don't be sad. That was a frightening day. Really I wasnt expecting such a harsh reaction. The Zelda fanbase has got to the the worst one at receiving an 8. if the Kingdom Hearts fans were like that , they'd light the torches every time they got a new game.

in all honesty - if you want to use that analogy it applies to all console games imho. some just dumbed down more than others.

Sounds like Gamespot pulled a Gamespot. So lemmings, we doing Metacritic/GR, or sales now? :P

subrosian

Why do any of those? - The anarchy vote was the smartest thing we ever did. When we place our faith in sites (like GameSpot) or aggregated scores that pull from those sites (like Metacritic / GameRankings) we're basically saying "yeah, some random guys on the internet know more about what makes a game fun than we do". - And sales are just that - sales. Popularity / sales success doesn't mean jack. Is World of Goo a crap game just because Wii Sports outsold it? Are sleeper hits like Zack & Wiki crap?

Honestly, I think reviews, GS or GR/Meta, are starting to mean less and less on SW. This would have been epic a year ago, but now few people seem to care.

As for sales, well, Halo Wars is guaranteed to succeed in that department, so I was wondering if any lemmings were going to resort to pulling out the sales card. That's our territory, man. :P

[QUOTE="EVOLV3"]Lemmings really seem to love Metacritic these days.Ross_the_B0SS

Everybody loves metacritic when a game they like flops. I think it's all pretty silly. If you like the game then there is nothing to be ashamed of. Hey, I love Too Human and I'm proud...despite crappy reviews. I'm still getting Halo Wars and trying it out for myself.

Same here. Already have the LE pre-ordered. Can't wait to pick it up next week :D

It's Halo. Just last week there were tons of lemmings drooling over the demo and building up hype.

After reading about what's in the game content wise, I have a feeling two or three months from now we're going to be seeing DLC for a Covenant story line, and maybe even a Flood expansion.

Really, the way most people here you the term "dumbed down" or "Down graded" just means more accessible. Not necessarily worse. One such example is limiting the amount of weapons you can carry in a shooters. Some people consider it a down grade, but honestly I think it's stupid to have to cycle through like ten guns. And limiting the amoung of guns you carry alos adds a bit of strategy. It doesn't make the experience worse unless you just some hardcore pc gaming nerd that refuses to change.

well you can have limited guns in TF2, and it's the best online fps right now and there are some fantastic console games like Sotc, SMG, mgs franchise (and so much other too lazy to name) But there are other downgraded games for consoles DR wii comes to mind so quick and another one I don't want to name :D

I'm still playing the demo and still loving it. And 90% of other credible critics think the game is good. It's a shame some n0obody reviewer for GS used Halo Wars a his tool for attention-seeking.

Does not change the fact that it is a massive FLOP on this site. SW uses Gamespot scores and Gamespot scores only.

i can't think of a single console experience that is more complex than offerings on PC. maybe it's just me. i play console games for mindless fun - i play great PC games for a challenge.

There wasn't any official hype threads. I don't think we even do "official hype" anymore.

I don't have a link, but the fact that this thread is a sticky and is at 900 posts should prove my point well enough. ;)
