I just wanted to point this out with the length of the single player campaign.
1. Gamespot's review said "though it's certainly not long and should take most players around five hoursto play through." also "but there's not much else to keep you coming back once you've finished the short campaign"
Only 5 hours to play through the campaign. With not much reason to play it again.
2. IGN AU's review said "The game's 15 core missions won't take you more than ten hours to get through"
That's double the length to get through the game, that's a fair bit longer.
3. G4tv's review said "There are four difficulty settings to choose from, and the length of the 15-level campaign will vary accordingly. On normal, it can around 8-10 hours to complete, but that can also vary depending on how thoroughly you play each level, since there are skulls to find, black boxes to uncover and optional mission-specific challenges (destroy all enemy bases, kill all hunters, etc.) to complete, all in addition to your main objectives."
8-10 hours on normal, a bit more if played on legendary/hard and also a bit longer to get collectables etc. Again a fair bit more than just 5 hours and nothing more.
4. Videogamers.com's review said "The 15 mission campaign, which will take you at least 10 hours to work through depending on difficulty level,"
Atleast 10 hours, maybe this guy is just bad at RTS's, i don't know.
I know i'm just picking out a small thing i saw in the review that's probably not very important. But it seems that this review was maybe just a little bit rushed.

Its so blatantley clear GS phones it in most of the time. They are not what they used to be.Not by a long shot.
Coming to you LIVE from Metacritic Watch '09, an update on Halo Wars' progress! With now 33 reviews, Halo Wars is sitting pretty at 83, which is one point higher than it was before. Could it be that the game is getting favorable reviews?
Numbers don't lie, my friends. Who will post the "Really?... REALLY?" video this time? Will it be you??? :o

Hey just because those people on the other side of the pond hate on 360 and MS doesn't mean this reviewer didn't have some bias. Plus the game is fun and is vey well made. Just because this "person" had an opinion obviously warped by his utter hatredfor anything that is perceived not to belong on a console, does not mean we should take his word over any else.
So if you look at the big picture and many reviews, it is very clear all GS was doing was looking for its. Plain and simple.
And I could careless about this game too.

seriously, gs review is just one more opinion
I find it interesting that in the review they established things I pointed out ages ago in the demo.
The cutscenes are amazing, and the game has the right looks and feels.
The main problem is the scale, there is a feeling of the whole thing being unnecessary... why build a base so you can have 30 units, you can just drop 30 units off from a forward operating base that doesn't cost 30 billion dollars to build because it already exists, just call pelicans in. It just doesn't make sense to have to build and maintain a structure of that size and capability for such a flimsy amount of unit points. The game would have done well for the canon of the Halo universe if it had taken the World in Conflict approach where you order units from somewhere else (like what you actually see happening in Halo games); "I know guys, we are investigating enemy presense in this location here. Let's build a huge mother****ing base there to house a recon size operation".
Other problems like the framerate are pretty noticable, if you think it shouldn't matter by console standards you are wrong. A frame rate should never jitter up and down, it should be consistant. If it is inconsistant the developers need to compensate, otherwise it is a flaw.
Not being able to play campaign as the Covenant is not a bad thing, but the game does lack content without it, and it is short according to the review anyway. A distinct lack of content is nothing short of disapointing. It means that this is basically a multiplayer game for Halo lovers the way I see it.
If my mates get it, so will I, but I expected more than that.

Everyone should use multiple sites for their reviews. And lately it seems GS is totally shaming themselves with outlandish and unprofessional critiques of games. Its sad really
Whoa 6.5? Definitelylower than I expected. I'm still getting it because I loved the demo though. One thing I found weird is under bad it said the flood aren't playable. I might be mistaken but wasn't there no flood on harvest?Ross_the_B0SSWell, I guess according to Halo Wars, there are. The game has a fore runner structure. The Flood generally seem to hang out around those. If you're asking if the flood ran free in the early days of Harvest, no. There really is no explanation yet. You'll just have to play and find out what exactly is going on.

You have to understand that TP was a far more hyped game than Halo Wars.
Although I do wish there was another incident similar to TP, just to shake things up a little.

There's never going to be another TP-like freakout, 'cause by now we're all used to this happening every once in a while.
Sounds like Gamespot pulled a Gamespot. So lemmings, we doing Metacritic/GR, or sales now? :P
Why do any of those? - The anarchy vote was the smartest thing we ever did. When we place our faith in sites (like GameSpot) or aggregated scores that pull from those sites (like Metacritic / GameRankings) we're basically saying "yeah, some random guys on the internet know more about what makes a game fun than we do". - And sales are just that - sales. Popularity / sales success doesn't mean jack. Is World of Goo a crap game just because Wii Sports outsold it? Are sleeper hits like Zack & Wiki crap?[QUOTE="Teufelhuhn"][QUOTE="HPPL3"]GS was just fishing for some hits in this bleak economic time.

Obviously...
Sounds a bit far fetched to me, and that's because it is. The game was percieved as "fair" by the reviewer, and he/she stated what was good and what was bad, but then he/she also criticised legitimately bad points, at least from what I can tell from the demo.
I just wanted to point this out with the length of the single player campaign. It seems that those other reviewers took their time with it, unlike Gamespot.

I wasnt around then... :(carljohnson3456I'd say that was the first huge awakening to reviews around here, people were literally flipping out, more notably the Nintendo fans, they were just insane, literally frothing at the mouth for Jeff's head on a plate. Everyone expected the game of the century with the return of a mature Zelda, even non-Nintendo fans were convinced it was going to be GOTY, but yeah, you get the picture, very crazy,

Honestly, I think reviews, GS or GR/Meta, are starting to mean less and less on SW. This would have been epic a year ago, but now few people seem to care.
As for sales, well, Halo Wars is guaranteed to succeed in that department, so I was wondering if any lemmings were going to resort to pulling out the sales card. That's our territory, man. :P
