i actually find that i generally do agree more with Edge, and less with the rest of the industry. especially considering nearly all major review outlets online have had their scandals in the past, including Gamespot, and others have flat-out associations with parent companies that manufacture the consoles.
i just find it funny that people often lean on Edge for support when their game gets reviewed well because they're so harsh generally - but when something gets panned we start calling Edge out saying they're wrong :P. lots of having cake & eating it too going on around these parts.
at the end of the day it's just an opinion though. if you enjoy it that should be all that matters. some of my favorite games have metascores in the 70s-80s.
I don't agree with Edge for a reason. They have rated too many games I can't stand incredibly high (Halo 3, Gears 2 and Fable 2) and games I have absolutely loved much, MUCH lower (Fallout 3, Mass Effect, Metal Gear Solid 4 just as a few examples). They're simply too inconsistent with their scores and their reasoning. They always throw out that they reward originality while giving a game likes gears 2 with a broken online component a 9? That's laughable. If you're going to punish one game for little innovation, tons of cliches and a lame story, punish ALL games with the same problems. That's not to say I agree with other sites because most sites loved Halo 3, Gears 2 and Fable 2 but at least THOSE sites loved MGS4, Mass Effect and Fallout 3 too. Just reading almost any Edge review you can tell they're in love with themselves more than the games and when you're in the industry for that reason I have to question your motives. in love with themselves more than the games? i think that's ridiculous. think you might just be a bit biased because they pinched one off on some of the games you love. i love them because they have the nerve & gall to actually call games out when they deserve to be called out instead of mindlessly gushing over things throwing out 9-10 scores like they're day old donuts. i loved fallout 3, mass effect, and still agreed with their criticisms. hated mgs4 and agreed. i dunno, to each their own i guess. i respect them for being honest and not gushing like fanboys, which tends to happen with reviews on most mainstream sites.in short, i think it's better to have pride & respect instead of coming off as 'loving the games, more than themselves' which happens here a lot. go read the gamespot MGS4 review and try to tell me the reviewer isn't a hardcore MGS4 fanboy who cared more about gushing over his precious than being critical and paying attention to proper prose & style while trying to remain at least partially objective.
