I'm not sure how long you've been around here, but these type of antics and actions are like a revolving door. It's embedded into the System Wars culture. It happens with every major game release for consoles. To further put this particular game into perspective, it's a launch title of a brand new console. A console that looks to do monumentally better than its predecessor. So yeah, the anticipation will be buffed up more than it would have been otherwise.

I'm pleased to see there's no major damage control (unless I haven't been reading enough). People are just taking it for what it is. As I said before, I think it's because there's overwhelming confidence in future exclusives. Shadow Fall is like that initial soldier who gets murked on D-Day, but eventually, more forces will come to reinforce things, lol. I'm assuming that's the mind set.

The interesting thing is that there's often a Sony game that meets the expectations and excitement of its fan base.

What an amazing start of what will be an amazing gen.

All seriousness Killzone was hyped like crazy here and everyone saying it was hyped an 8 is flopping harder than this game. So many... so so many called this Graphics king... ign review talks about blurring in areas is slick to help hide rough edges... haha. Yeah. So many said it was the next gen half life or the gameplay will destroy halo.... and just so much more. Here we are and it can't even beat battlefield or COD! Games all you cows said don't look next gen. Then you all complain about the framerate drops on xbox one BF4. This is a multiplat! Not a first party game and look at the reviews on the web everywhere... Killzone has framerate issues!

So glad the cows got a taste of their own shit.

Yeah I have to admit this has to be a terrible launch for a console in recent years because K:SF was the only interesting game on the system and it didn't live on the hype. AT least the PS3 had Resistance Fall Of Man which was a good game. I'm surprised that KZ:SF got a lower score then COD:Ghosts. Ether it was worse or if Keven had reviewed Ghosts maybe it would of gotten a lower score. Now I wonder if the XBONE will do better? OH well I'm busy playing on PC so I really don't care.

Probably true. The disparity between the rest of gaming journalist compared to McShea may have something to do with it (it was a huge, unexpected difference). I also think Gamespot has become a tad more harsh in general and people are catching on.

A reason I don't pay much attention to HYPE like this, whether it be from Playstation fans or Xbox fans, is because the deciding outcome and criticism boils down to generalizations and lack of perspective. Take LAIR for example. People were very excited for the game of course. But being excited and admiring the graphics and premise =/= the community as a whole thinking it'll score AAA on a particular site. Same for Alan Wake on 360. It was highly anticipated for years and praised for it's graphics, and for Remedy, due to their work with Max Payne. But when the time came along to decide what it would score, AA was the choice. Too Human is another great example (actually a better one).

Console gamers tend to do this often. But it's all good. None of it is surprising nor noteworthy IMO. It's akin to politics in America. Oh, I've seen that somewhere! Same ol' song as before, hehe.

well it was really just an 8 vs a 9, but it was just hilarious to watch all the damage control. And all of a sudden only metacritic counted, any time you mentioned TLOU flopping people would lose their minds

It was hilarious to watch lol. Especially since it was just ONE man's opinion. I was laughing when countless people were calling it "game of the generation" and "masterpiece" without ever playing it. Partly because of that outcome, I think you won't see too many games with AAA predictions going forward on Gamespot. Come to think of it, HYPE threads in general are rare now.

I was really hoping that Guerilla would be able to come out and show themselves as more than the one trick pony they have been since Killzone II.

It is very unfortunate that they still cant craft a decent single player experience.

Launch games have never been that amazing. That's why I didn't pre-order any games with my PS4.

Bottom line: no one is complaining about the multiplayer and thats all I care about. Killzone doesnt have any media hype to it really. So while COD and BF can get by with lackluster campaigns and still get a 8.5 or so, Killzone will have most of the review complain about its single player and get a 7.0.

Heck, IGN's review talked about how it was the strongest title in the core series for Killzone, yet still gave it an 8.0 compared to a 8.5 for KZ3 and 9.4 for KZ2. haha. Its like they didnt even know what score they gave the other games.

It's a shame Guerilla never got it right, maybe just the graphics but any one can have a game that looks good. Who knows how many times they reorganized their team to try to make a killer app shooter. Maybe they should make a different genre of game since first person shooter genre isn't working for them. Sony funding them did more damage than good. Is this the lowest scoring Killzone game here on GS? If it is, that shows a lot. Instead of improving, it's doing a 180 the wrong way. Kill Killzone already, stop making them.
