Yup. Products that are priced well and offer a lot of value continually outsell technically superior products that are way, waaaaay overpriced by vendors looking to gouge pretentious and elitist customers.
Translation-
Quality gets over shadowed by Cheap and Shallow products
in other words, you get what you pay for
Overpriced quality is no good. Pharmaceutical companies use that excuse all the time to gouge sub-Saharan African nations for medication, instead of allowing them to buy generics.
YOU DON'T SUPPORT DIRTY, GREEDY PHARMACEUTICALS, DO YOU? :P
Seriously, though, it's all a matter of practical value, not just cost. I mean, most people can afford to lease a BMW 3-series for a few years. It's only, what, like $300/month? But instead, they choose to buy Toyota Camrys. Why? Because buying a Camry that retains 65% of its sticker price over 5 years and requires minimal maintenance simply makes more sense than splurging on a leased sports sedan for two years. (This was actually the choice I was faced with last year; ended up getting a Camry Hybrid, and I haven't looked back since. :D Which may explain how I dented my back bumper two or three times in as many months. :( )
What you call quality is actually just luxury, and in the case of Ferrarris/BMWs, caviar, filet mignon, etc., those are called extravagant luxuries. Something which most people, in this day and age of economy and efficiency, just find wasteful.
