The Lord of the Rings Total War mod has been released yesterday:

It includes:

Flying Fellbeasts and Nazgul and Witchking riding on top (how the hell did they manage to put a flying creature!!!!)

The one Ring and how it corrupts the bearer

Palantir to see any spot you want but corrupts the character that does it

Frodo/Sam/Gollum and the journey to Mount Doom

All the fellowship as individual characters

Trolls/Mumaks all the beasts from the films...

up to 28000 characters on screen which means REAL Helms Deep battle (not the joke that BFME2 is)

Screens:

The Videos:

Intro

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a5SX7PQg11g

The nazgul!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Myuxgc7k258

If this game (Rome Total War Alexander) was on consoles we wouldnt have experienced the truly epic and cinematic battles of the trilogy in a game...

yeah pc mods are cool think thats why epic is trying to bring mods to ut3 hope that turns out ok. having mods on games can make them a whole lot funner and some people use mods to fix stuff like if theres something that isnt right about the game.

I think those will only include maps...these kinds of things like full coversion mods, are multifilled and much more complex...and unlikely to work on an archetechture other then the one they were designed for....

but there is also a bigger problem....Im willing to bet this mod has higher requirements then the original game...but thats fine on the PC because they can be upgraded or scaled....but unfortunatly, it doesnt work like that on consoles.

no it wont...at best it will be getting maps...full conversion mods are something entirelly different, and have much higher requirements then the original game.....not to mention are multi-filled, and unlikely to work on a completly different archetechture.

What game is this a mod of? Or is it a totally independant one? Depending on specs, I might look into that one.

Well IMO the games are all cr**P...This thing is the only LOTR game that allows you to have 10000 Uruk Hai screaming....Plus its free if you have RTW Alexander...(which is dirt cheap anyway)

Its for Rome Total War Alexander:

P3 1GHz
256MB RAM
64MB 3D accelerator
8xCD-ROM
2.9GB free disk space

I recommend to have huge battles:

At least P4 at 2.8ghz

256 7600GS or higher

1gb of RAM (preferably above 400mhz)

where did he say it was anything beyond Maps?

the kind of Mods the TC is talking about arent single files that you simply put into a folder....they are large downloaded files that have to be actually installed on the PC...they arent simply placed in a folder.

if your using the same game engine for this stuff...and if the maps can be directly downloaded from PC to ps3 then why wouldnt a mod that uses the same engine (IE same CODE) the only limits to downloading the MOD would be the HDD size....and thats about it

first of all the topic said "mods" not "full conversion mods" second of all, although your supposition is sound, you have no way of knowing if thats true. Maybe a few TC mods will hit the PS3. Only time will tell. So please dont spout your opinions as fact.

it doesnt matter if their using the same engine....do you have the option of opening up game folders on a PS3 game and inserting multi-filed large mods manually into the folder? no. Thats why non-maps probably wont work from the offset....

the fact that they run on the same engine is irrelivent...its not like you could put the PS3 game into your PC and expect it to work.

explain to me how you would do something like this on a PS3....

a Mod gives you directions on how to make it work...

open up the game files...find file "X", make a backup of this file, delete file "X" and put in file "Y" into the folder, rename the file so that the extension and everything else is supported....

you simply cant do that on a console...you dont have the ability to open game files, for one....

My specs suck.

768 Ram, but anouther 256 in the mail, so It'll be a gig in about a week or two.

P4 2.8GHz

128 6200 Gefoce (Yeah, I havn't updated it.. I don't PC game and my mobo overall setup sucks, so eventualy I'll just buy a new rig)

The dvd drive and space obviously I have. Might look into that mod then. Since for once I actualy have the specs. All my system can run at the mo is WoW, and that's on lowest settings :(.

well heres where epic confirmed it,was after e3 2007 and i dont believe they have cancelled or said otherwise.

Another major boon for Sony: The confirmation that the PS3 version of UT3 will be able to run user-created content, including maps, custom game modes, and mods. This marks the first time that a seemingly PC level of diverse, user-generated game additions will be available on a home console. Epic Games vice president Mark Rein commented on the news:

"The game takes full advantage of the power of the PlayStation 3 system, and Unreal Tournament 3 will, for the first time, allow users to create robust user-created content, known as 'mods,' on the PC version and play them on the PlayStation 3 system. We're extremely excited about this, and we feel this will bring a level of creativity, innovation, and replayability not previously seen on home consoles."

i am well aware they said this....what Im saying is that there is a very large difference between a singlefiled map, and a full conversion mod like the one the TC has shown.

with a map or custom game type...you just put into a specific folder and your done....its much much more complex when you get to mods that have to change the files themselves, or make you delete game files...

You do realize that a lot, if not the vast majority, of mods will never see the light of day on the PS3 right? Mods have tons of custom resources that require extra power from the system, and with a comprehensive means to optimize mods for the PS3 then there will be terrible framerate and system resource issues involved, let alone the kinds of legal heat that could come from some mods.

It'll just be a map editor or something. Likle the guy said, you can't put a mod on a console. And a console community usualy sucks. Stuff will either have to be screened before being uploading to PSN, take ages, crap all content will get through. Or some guy will create a bug/virus, **** up games everyone will complain ect.

the console versions dont get map editors, everything they get has to be brought over from the PC version...so of course....whatever works, will be designed for PC hardware.

It's possible that UT3 will have full-conversion mods on PS3, but they will proably have to be submitted to Epic and hosted through their server for download, since as it's been pointed out you can't install mods on PS3 the way you would on a PC. If the PS3 UT3 does get mods, it'll probably be "the best of" the PC version's mods.

[QUOTE="Perception1"]Well, PS3 will be getting the best UT3 mods. It's a start.cobrax25

no it wont...at best it will be getting maps...full conversion mods are something entirelly different, and have much higher requirements then the original game.....not to mention are multi-filled, and unlikely to work on a completly different archetechture.

first of all the topic said "mods" not "full conversion mods" second of all, although your supposition is sound, you have no way of knowing if thats true. Maybe a few TC mods will hit the PS3. Only time will tell. So please dont spout your opinions as fact.

explain to me how you would do something like this on a PS3....

a Mod gives you directions on how to make it work...

open up the game files...find file "X", make a backup of this file, delete file "X" and put in file "Y" into the folder, rename the file so that the extension and everything else is supported....

you simply cant do that on a console...you dont have the ability to open game files, for one....

[QUOTE="dcm06"]The confirmation that the PS3 version of UT3 will be able to run user-created content, including maps, custom game modes, and mods. This marks the first time that a seemingly PC level of diverse, user-generated game additions will be available on a home console. Epic Games vice president Mark Rein commented on the news: Vandalvideo

Vandal don't waste your time. The majority of console owners in this board are console sheep therefore they won't listen to a word you'll say. ;)

I dont see how some of the mods bound to come out will work on consoles. I guess we have to wait and see but I doubt it will work like some people think.

Well as far as Total Conversions are concerned Im VERY unoptimistic about the next gen consoles including PS3...Can you imagine a FLYING creature in a game that doesnt have ANYTHING flying in teh first place? A SINGLE man unit in a game that the code doesnt allow it?

This mod has almost 1gb of installation with thousands of files...How can one modify the BD of the game so it accepts the unacceptable? There is only one way as far as I know: COPY the disk

So console games modding have been ALWAYS ILLEGAL and it will eb this gen too...

MODS are a perk for being a PC gamer.. why screw with that. Thats the same as making the PC accessible and as easy to use for everyone! Sort of defeating the purpose all together. So no, unless done right (Doubtful it ever will be) I don't want to see mods on consoles.

i am well aware they said this....what Im saying is that there is a very large difference between a singlefiled map, and a full conversion mod like the one the TC has shown.

with a map or custom game type...you just put into a specific folder and your done....its much much more complex when you get to mods that have to change the files themselves, or make you delete game files...

cobrax25

You are incorrect on so many levels, I don't even know where to start.

Hmm... let's try this.

1.- Mods not necessarily need to overwrite game files. Look at Half-life. You just have to create a new folder and put the stuff in there, and select the mod from a list. There is simply no limitation on a console that prevents this: All you need is a defined sector of the hard-drive and the ability to write into it, along with a very short function in the program that allows the game to use those files.

2.- The "higher system requirements" thing is simply bollocks. There is no rule that states this. A TC can have higher, the same, or even lower system requirements compared to the original game. It's all based on resource utilization. If you note that many mods have higher requirements, it's usually one of these two factors (usually both!): Mods tend to try to append to the original gameplay, and most modders are amateurs and, compared to professional developers, poor optimizers.

3.- Even without taking the above into account, you fail on a very, very, very, very, very simple aspect. THE ORIGINAL GAME DESIGNERS CAN DECIDE HOW WOULD MODS WORK. If they wish for the PS3 to get mods, they can make it happen. I'm baffled you'd think they're well capable of making a full game while at the same time too incompetent to make it possible to change the core resource directory.

4.- The architecture is pretty much irrelevant if the engine is ported. You seem to have a complete lack of understanding of even the most basic tenets of modding. See, even a total conversion mod is basically a bunch of documents and images, along with modules for the original engine. They work by playing with the engine, and the engine itself is the one tweaked for the architecture. Unless the mod heavily modifies the core engine, there should be no problem.

I'm sorry, but I have to ask, how long have you been gaming on your PC? You don't seem to know much about it...

It's sad, seeing so many PC gamers saying so much nonsense with respect to modmaking... truly, epically sad.

Thanks for the info. Now I have finally a reason to install Alexander.

LotR mod for the medieval was good and this seems ten times better. I just hope that the units are balanced better this time.

all im saying is that although u may be right, dont go talking like you know for a fact. None of us know enough about how the console mods system is gonna work to start saying things as if they are fact.

Would be nice for consoles to get mods but the devs would not be able to sell additional content soI doubt many devs will support them.

If you're talking about amateur mods rather than official expansions: then Oblivion is my favourite for modding on the PC. The original game is absolute trash compared to what you can turn it into on the PC.

BFME2 is a PATHETIC Dune2 clone (a 1995 game lol) with bar fights of maximum 100 individuals...
