Who here wants to make a bet he will try to get the game cancelled due to blacks being the primary targets in the game? I don't mean to bring this to light so much as I just realized that it would likely happen due to the fact an anglo saxon like Chris is beating up on a bunch of Africans. Even though the enemies in the game are plagued by a virus or parasite like in previous games, I think that will be pushed out the window in the media.

Am I over-analyzing or are Americans just too fragile these days? FYI, I'm American.

This topic is exactly what I thought when I saw the trailer. Someone is going to make a big deal out of this and Capcom will probably get sued for $500 Million dollars or something ridiculous.

My God, the game does not come out until 2009, and people are already talking about it being a racist game because it has zombified Africans in it.:roll: Maybe they just thought that Africa would be a rather wild, and untamed setting for a Resident Evil game to take place in. Good idea if you ask me. No big deal.

What I really think we should do is STOP TALKING ABOUT IT, that way maybe it will be less prone to happen if it does not have a year and a half to grow into a real issue due to constant conversation about it spreading.

Frankly, it probably will spark attention and simply generate a lot of buzz for the game. If the issue goes to civil court, Capcom will probably win with a lot of the aforementioned logic that was stated in thisthread alone. I also imagine that like Resident Evil 4, the enemies will probably change as the game progresses and therefore this will only encompass a small portion of the game. I used to think the Ganados were the only enemies in Resident Evil 4 after watching the trailers/advertisements.. boy was I wrong...

No I haven't I listen to their older stuff. Like Only for the Weak and Coerced Coexistence. The only semi new stuff I like is Leeches and Reflect the Storm.

Its because of history. slavery and racism against black people. Have you notice how if a white person says white power or says something about black people the world gets really upset. but black people can talk about white people. It all goes back to history and the way black people were treated in the past. but as someone of color i don't find resident evil 5 racist. but people will complain

there are countless ways capcom could've dodged this seemingly inescapable bullet of "man that game is raaaacist" but they haven't.

The problem rests with the fact that for many including myself it feels very "us VS them" if there were characters who weren't infected and you had to help them in resi 4 then that'd saved it.

I vaguely remember a latin stereotype who had a gun, and got stabbed towards the end...A part of me really thinks that capcom want you to feel like an american soldier killing civilians...whether or not they're playing on many people's xenophobic desires isdebatable.

Remember a game for XBL called Castle Crashers ? Got that phone call that was released on the internet, about a woman calling in because all the bad guys where black guys ( tribe's people :roll: ) and you have never heard jack since about that game... That was one of my most anticipated games for the Xbox 360 period, and its just gone now.

Ahhh i see what you mean. I remember reading one blog where a guy brought a good point. This game could make a very good social commentary on america and the state of war, like metal gear solid 4 and Army of 2 are doing.

In that case the lead character would HAVE to be white, as it'd be iconic of colonialism/and present day imperialism, invading iraq, afghanistan etc... A documentary called Why we fight talks in depth about this.

I've resolved to think that the biggest potential tragedy with this isn't whether or not it's racist, but if capcom make another stupid storyline thats set in an "exotic" locale with non zombies for no real reason.

Before resi4 resident evil actually did have something to say, about corporations and crazy science but then it stooped into this vague terroritory where you no longer feel frightened and you're killing without really worrying about anything.

In resident evil you would find diaries from people who are slowly turning that would make you feel sorry for you're enemies. In resident evil there was lisa trevor who added a lot of tensionto the game, because you knew you had to kill her and it was messed up when you realised what she did to her parents.

in resi 4 there was no emotion, or tension. there was no crimson heads,or any of the other zombie types. it was thrilling, but you can have thrill and say something in equal measure, and resident evil has done this before.

Actually it was directed at no one.

And I've yet to play Resident Evil 4, coz I didn't have a GC or PS2 at the time. Might get it on PC though. I'm not a devout fan of Resident Evil 4, rather Silent Hill.

Still, from what I've seen, I can't see why people think its racist just because Africans are in the game. So if there was white people, would it not be racist?

Perhaps Capcom just to stage it there because in their culture they really do believe in the living dead and all, which is pretty creepy in itself.
