Maybe it's too hardcore for the Wii?

air_wolf_cubed

Like Brawl and 6 million lucky owners?

Brawl at best is a casual fighting game. And thats if you even call it a fighting game to begin with.

It's also fan service.

Yes Brawl is not a fighting game because all the fighting you do has nothing to do with fighting. And of course its casual cause it has Mario in it

I'm just saying thats if you even consider it a fighting game. I dont, maybe you do, but at best its a casual fighting game. It's not hardcore like VF5 style or even DOA style...

Why isnt it hardcore? Because its different? Because 4 players? Because optional items? Because it's a Wii exclusive Yeah lets go with that last one

ughhhh i'm not going to get into this agian....

[QUOTE="ThePlothole"][QUOTE="laughingman42"]I'm really wondering what turned people off on this game. I really dont see any reason why this game shouldnt have at least broken 500k on both platforms.laughingman42

I don't think anything turned them off. It's just that they never heard of it.

I'm not just talking about main stream gamers, I'm talking about people that do alot of gaming. It was advertised in gaming mags and had lots of very positive previews comparing it to Zelda (which as you know sells very well)

Zelda is an established franchise. The number of people who are familiar with it has been steadily growing since the NES. Okami on the other had to stand alone.

BTW, this is exactly why Nintendo publishes so many titles with Mario. His name is one of the best known in the entire video game industry!

For port, that was unknown to begin with, that had virtually no additional extras, or advertising, I would say those sales numbers are extremely solid.

Sure, when you first get in you can butten mash and you'll pull off some fantastic looking combos, but when you get into mid level and high level play you have to learn the counter system, and every single online match i have been through cannot be won by straight butten mashing. You have to predict each move that comes out of the oponent to both counter and mix up your attacks correctly in order to win, and the fast pace of this makes it even harder. Quick reflexes, memorization, mixing up the attacks, and prediction makes it a skill based game.

Becuase EVO's games are based on popularity and DOA has always been the underdog to other 3D fighting games and since DOA isin't the most popular thats why it's not on the list. I'm sure if it sold somewhere around 8 million copies they'd be all over it. Hence why i think if Smash Bro's only sold shy of 1 million copies EVO woulden't care for it.

If you dont use the Z button, it will be hard to use the brush for slicing enemies.
If your not a fan of waggle, you'll hate this/dislike it.

What?? How could you possible say that? It worked perfectly for me every single time. Now that I think about it thought though I had a bit of trouble using the powerslash when I put the Rubber cover on as it was reducing the pointer sensitivity but as soon as I took it back off I was back to 100% accuracy.

If you're really going to base EVO by sales then you my friend F'N fail.

You really think games like CvS2, MvC2, and Guilty Gear were big sellers? You really think these games are selling over a million copies?

Dead or Alive 3 and Dead or Alive 4 were both million sellers which can't be said for games such as CvS2, MvC2, and GG. Evo is not based on game sales but rather a competitive strong community willing to compete.

It's not like those don't factor in as well, but there not going to accept Killer Instinct because 50 some people want it no matter how die hard they are. CvS2, MvC2, and GG are all big names in the fighting genre so it makes sense that their there, but like i said DOA has been the underdog of 3D fighting games being eclipsed by games like Tekken, VF, and even Soul Calibur. DOA has been known more of it's huge porpotions of it's characters more than the actual game

dear capcom,

make some Okami commercials. Not just one for japan, but for everywhere. Then talk to me about low okami sales.

kthnx

redmetal86

its not that easy... Its niche game and only appeals to a certain audience... its not a "casual" game and even some core gamers will turn there nose up at it, in favour of something with guns like Army of Two e.t.c

DeathScape666
Not lazily, just really low budgetedly. The port was done by a team of 8 people over nine months with horribly cataloged source codes and zero technical support from the original devs. If you call that lazy, something is seriously wrong with you.

I don't know why I never bought Okami for the ps2. I really should get it for the PS3 since I got that with the MGS4 bundle.

From what I understand though from people I know and talked to, its not really a hard game, theres no real challenge to it. I like to play games that are just insanely difficult and designed to be practically impossible. This doesn't seem like that.

anyone here who hasnt bought it, go buy it. PS2 or wii, it doesent matter (though id recommend the wii version). it really is a stunning game.

still what were capcom expecting? it failed to sell well on the PS2 with an install base of well over 100million when okami launched.

they just hevent backed this game properly....not on the PS2 and certainly no better on the wii.

like other greats like giants, its doomed to a very small market.

Well, if their looking to boost the sales number, buying the PS2 version wont help since Capcom is no longer shipping any more new copies.

Not that I don't want people to buy that version. By all means I incourage people to get it, it's the better version. But if you want to help boost sales, if you can't find the PS2 version or if you can't stand to play games that don't support wide screen the Wii version is a good alternative.

Nope. It sold poorly on the PS2 and it was destined to do poorly on the Wii. It's unfortunate.

Another example of a good game without a decent marketing campaign.

This game is so hard to find. I looked every where for the X-box version so I could play it in 720 p on my 360, but when I finally found it, it turns out it's not in the 360's backward compatibility line up. So I had to take it back and now I'm just looking for the Gamecube or PS2 versions.

Its funny this tread came up, Im actually playing it on the wii right now. Im 22 hrs in and would say it is one of the best games I have ever played. Its a really good game, for me the best the wii has to offer, I really cant believe more people are not buying it. Its a ******* same games like this dont sell. Soon we may not get anymore GEMs like this and games will all be casual.

Wow. O_o

And considering that the Wii's install base is much smaller than the PS2's...

The game sold better on the Wii, despite the Wii having a much smaller userbase than the PS2. Conclusion: More games that sold poorly but were awesome should be put on the Wii.
