Any one else tried of these poll? I know I am. Everytime the end of the yearcame we fight of who will win GOTY.(If it was a good year.)

Well, no more fighting, no more polls It time to tell everyone why you want your selective game of Goty and no"because I like it."

Give us pros, cons and clear exlainations. That mean type it out........

So what game do you want for GOTY and Why?

SacredMG

Fable 3 is GOTY. The game is simply epic, like Zelda OOT was back then and nothing really compares Alan Wake and Mass Effect 2 would also be candidates

My topic clearly says to explain why.

Ok. Fable 3 - Best art in a 3D game - Most epic world feeling, the lighting, foliage, detail, forests, everything - Rule a kingdom, a first in a RPG - Huge world, NPC simulation, huge detailed cities a first in a RPG - Spell combination in real time, a almost first in a RPG - Epic story with huge variety in environments - Evolving world, by your choices, areas change completly, and some evolve with people inhabiting, new jobs, homes created etc - Endeless secrets to find - Unique quests and game feeling - Dress as Zeldas Link !!! - Buy homes, shops, have treasury, economy system etc And the list goes on[/QUOTE] Are you AbleFa3?

StarCraft II.

Long, awesome campaign that lets me customize my army.

Awesome art design and voice acting.

Multiplayer is absolutely stellar, and very competitive. New Battle.net's matchmaking works wonderfully.

My only complaint is that I haven't had time to play it!

I would be torn between Mass Effect 2 and Starcraft 2 and they dominate in two different categories (Singleplayer and Multiplayer)

..

SC2: The amount of tactics involved, the asymmetrical factions, the nerve wracking experience of multiplayer. I think what really makes it stand apart to me is that no other multiplayer experience produces the same rush of emotions from me. No FPS shooter compares simply because the relatively short time it takes to kill someone removes the same sense of skill. Other RTS's dont compare simply because SC2 really downplays any new RTS elements. Its not about capturing nodes or parachuting down troops, every action at higher levels of play can result in your completely failing a battle and so every moment feels important.

..

ME2: I dont care about the RPG debate. As far as games go it does amazing cross overs to the past title (yes it may just equal cameos but it feels like cameos that only exist because of decisions you made). The combat is just a ton of fun to play and most importantly the story and world are rich, well developed, epic and emotional. I still like to rewatch the ending on youtube and the launch trailer (best game trailer ever in my opinion)

Monster Hunter Tri

Why? - It's one of the most Challenge Game I've ever played, I have to plan ahead before capturing a Monster and It's diffcult to capture one without killing it, Online is probably the best on the Wii, and Lots of Customization.

I'm going to say Vanquish because I really think it pushed the genre forward and is tons of fun. ME2, RDR are excellent games but just refined what we've seen before, like UC2, which lost. Platinum are definitely my devs of the year with Vanquish and Bayonetta, both of which raised bars.

I'd say Bayonetta. It's the game that got the most playtime out of me in 2010. The combat is extremely well done, the presentation is great, from graphics to music. There is alot of replayability to the game, whether it be from trying to buy all skills and acquire all weapons, trying to get platinum/pure platinum trophies, trying to get enough halos for the secret boss, etc. The last battles in the game were also very epic.

The story wasn't even that bad. It never tried to be a masterpiece or whatever, it was always meant to eb an over-the-top, hilarious story and that's exactly what it was. For what it tried to do, it did well.

As for an honorable mention: Super Mario Galaxy 2. Damn great game.

Sadly, it has no chance at all to win GOTY:cry:

Yep...and that's why it'll be my Personal Game of the Year. :(

I wish I could put a game up for nomination, but I haven't played anything this year that I considered GOTY worthy. There are still a few games I'm waiting to get my hands on since I've been busy this semester. Anyways, If I had to guess...I'd imagine the award will go to Super Mario Galaxy 2 based on the score alone. (but we all know that isn't what makes goty material)

Super Mario Galaxy 2 WILL win GotY. a 10.0 and the sequel to Gamespots 2007 GotY, Gamespot said in their review that SMG2 is the new standard for platformers.madmidnight
ok, but why should it win. use your own words from you playing why you think it is more deserving then ALL of the other candidates and not just best Wii game or best platformer. Actually talk about something besides score too because as we learned last year, score doesn't mean everything.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 because it's virtually flawless, hence why it received its score. A game like that full of 3D obstacles, but still plays almost perfectly. Gameplay is so amazing because of fluctuations in gravity, perfect balance, great camera controls, great boss battles, great game mechanics and level design, great fun. Simply the best game in its respective genre. What else could anybody want from a platformer?

Bigboi500

I agree and I have to say after playing Super Mario Galaxy 2 it is hard to go back to Super Mario Galaxy that is how much of an improvement their was between the first and the second game.

I also love the levels that did stuff different like Flipswitch Galaxy, Beatblock Galaxy, and my personal favorite Rolling Coaster Galaxy.

but why? I'm not saying in these specific phrases that I don't think it deserves to win, I just want to hear a good reason from the person who is saying this why. How about you? I'll go.

I choose either Mass Effect 2 or RDR. Both games have wonderful stories (which to me, a good story matters) and excellent gameplay. Red Dead is the perfect sandox game and also uses a setting not seen many times before. Mass Effect's world is also great and me being a fan by TPS, loved how they reworked the mechanics to the game. They also both have terrific and fitting music to go with each game and provide plenty of play time. Red Dead also has a multiplayer mode which is actually tons of fun and has a great cast like every other Rockstar game. These people help make their characters sound more believable. Mass Effect also does this and I just loved how the game starts off nice and slow and has the most epic conclusion ever. (The entire last mission was amazing).

I honestly can't choose between these two games, but I believe that one of them should win. Ok. your turn now.

I already stated why I think SMG2 should win earlier in this thread. RDR would be my close second choice. If Fallout: New Vegas wasn't so buggy I would have chosen that as my personal GOTY.

Halo Reach has the most content out of any console shooter this generation with Forge World, Theater, 4 player Co-op, Split Screen, FireFight with hundreds of possibilities, you can create your type of game, strong campaign and multiplayer. Construct your own worlds to play in with physics and map manipulation. Game looks great, one of the best looking games of the year and a big step up over the otherwise not-so visually impressive Halo 3. Responsive controls, many enemies on screen at once with big battles set pieces. Space battles add some nice new gameplay mechanics to the FPS formula and looks stunning. This shooter does it all. ;)

I have to go with mass EEffect 2. It was a great game combat wise, so much so that some won't call it an RPG. And the RPG elements were great for me as well as the loading of choices I made from the first game. Best Sci Fi story for me in a while.

Meh. I like ME2 for the gameplay but the RPG elements, yes the RPG elements, were actually weak. I'm not talking lack of Inventory system. I'm talking overhyping the importance of carry over plot points, over reliance on the Morality system, and the total lack of story. I know, the importance were in the characters, but really it felt more like Shepard tagging along with everyone else's personal stories, and only giving his two-cents near the end.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 should win because it is constantly throwing something new at the player. The game is absolutely overflowing with cool gameplay ideas. That it doesn't often repeat itself makes a very compelling argument in a gaming generation in which developers don't seem to be all that adept at finding ways to decrease or mask repetitiveness.

I think Bayonetta is a somewhat close second. The combat NEVER feels stale, the possibilities feel endless if you really dig into your combat repetoire, and the level design (despite a few flat levels) is actually pretty damn inspired for a hack and slash.

Mass Effect 2 will win and desevedly so. But I would like for Metroid Other M, Donkey Kong Country Returns or God of War III to win personally.

I think ME2 should win. Bioware really mixed up the story while keeping things going in the same direction. Great character development, and I actually felt in control of Shepard's choices. Also I loved how it took information from my ME save, and applied it to the game. Graphically it's the best looking game on my pc, and though I feel it's a little "typical sci-fi art" it's still nice to look at.

RDR seems like a close 2nd, but I just feel like the bugs, and lack of replay kinda kill it.

What will actually win. What ever the editors really like right now (ie flavor of the month). With the exception of a few they've mostly been fall releases.

Red Dead Redemption. It's the complete package. Powerful ending that gives the player closure. You really get to punch evil in the face, with authority. Extremely well-written story and dialogue. Brilliant voice actors, characters with unique character models and personalities. Excellent graphics, and probably the best I've seen for a multiplatform game to date. There are so many things to do. Main story, sidequests, odd-jobs and tasks, as well as collecting items. Huge sandbox world to explore and riding horseback never gets old. One of few games that I barely used fast travel.

Great presentation, easy to navigate menus, save system, tight controls, satisfying dead-eye gunplay, very few bugs/glitches, very well polished, varied missions, plenty of weapons and items you could use. RDR keeps you moving from story missions and sidequests that tie you into its world. I never felt bored and I always felt motivated to keep playing because RDR offers the complete package deal.

On top of that, Rockstar North comes out with a DLC that is only $10 and plays out like a stand-alone game clocked in from 5-12 hours depending on how you play. Rockstar North has done it again, after the awesome Episodes from Liberty City. Red Dead Redemption for GOTY.

Warning. Don't start with in my thead. I'm the last person to start with on the debate. Just talk about why you this a game should win not what we did not like or think we did not like about a game.

Dude, chill out. He's allowed to have an opinion, and share it. Not everything has to be a debate.

And I mine but this is not a thread about if it's an rpg or not.

Depends on what perspective you use.

Quality = SMG

Innovation = Portal

Multiplayer = CoD4

These games all won multiple GOTY awards in 2007. I think that the quality of SMG2 is going to outweigh any innovation from other game on GS.

For me it's insane that a simple 6 hour campaign can win GOTY (it was awesome but still compare that to SMG 30 hours of amazing level design) but that's just my opinion. Although it was the best MP game of the year I definitely agree. (CoD4)

I wasn't saying whether it was a RPG or not. I just said it was a mediocre one.

Super Mario Galaxy 2. It's the game I had the most fun with all year.

I've missed Red Dead Redemption, Mass Effect 2, Vanquish, and other high profile titles, so my opinion is based only on what I've played this year... Sadly, I honestly think the new COD is about the best fun I've had on any games this year. I loved me God of War 3, Bioshock 2, Heavy Rain and others... but Black Ops campaign is great and the replay value between Zombies and MP is great fun. Hate to say that because I hate Activision, but man Black Ops is fun.
