OMG! DreamCast/PS2 SOOO Similar to PS3/360.. Scary GREAT Read!

I know this topic has been brought up time and time again but I got bored at work today and was just thinking about how similar the PS2/Dreamcast situation is to the 360/PS3 situation is.. It goes like this..

PS2/Dreamcast Era-Dreamcast color is white, PS2 color was black.

PS3/360 present time-360 Color is white, PS3 color is black

PS2/Dreamcast era-Dreamcast used the same "Last gen" format sony used for PSone games.. CD format. PS2 had "next gen" DVD built in

PS3/360 Present time-360 using Last gen format DVD. PS3 using next gen Blu ray

PS2/Dreamcast Era-Dreamcast had a one year headstart and was outselling PS2 in the first year PS2 released

PS3/360 Present time-360 has one year head start. 360 outselling PS3

PS2/Dreamcast Era-Dreamcast cheaper than PS2

PS3/360 present time-360 Cheaper than PS3

PS2/DreamCast era-Dreamcast known as "revolutionary" since first console to have online gaming.

PS3/360 Present time-Xbox live known as "revolutionary" for its online capablities

PS2/Dreamcast Era- Dreamcast had the most games and better library while PS2 was struggling getting the good games out

PS3/360 Present time-360 has the most games and better librarary while PS3 is struggling getting the good games out

If you're too young to remember, the Playstation 2 launched in October of 2000 and it owned every console in 2001.

It wasn't getting it's ass handed to it by the Dreamcast for an entire year and it also didn't have as much momentum as the Xbox 360.

Not exactly. The Dreamcast used a proprietary media called GD-ROMs. Basically they were CDs, except they were spun slower as the Disc reached the edge (I don't recall exactly what this is called, but there is a term), which allowed them to pack data more evenly (recovering space that is usually lost on CDs). I think Blu-Ray discs operate in the same way.

Anyways, GD-ROMS held about 1.2 GB (obviously still much less than a DVD).

One ever so minor difference is..

Sega = broke (and EAless)

Microsoft = no so broke.

1/ xbox 360 has already outsold dreamcast

2/ as soon as the ps2 was anounced, the dreamcast sales suffered

3/ third party devs such as EA didnt want to support the dreamcast

4/ the ps2 had GTA 3, and mgs2 within its first year

5/ the dreamcast had no true system seller, the xbox 360 has had Gears of War & Halo 3 so far

6/ ps2 sold very well, even in its first year

Did the dreamcast have 13 million+ consoles sold along with huge exclusives coming out every month when the PS2 was released? Nope...and this i know. I was a hardcore Dreamcast player. Great console.

Dreamcast sold 10 million in it's lifetime...the 360 is up near 13 million in it's first 2 years. Along with that, the 360 is outselling the PS3 by a large margin every month and has been since it was released.

lol, this thread reminds of some of the classic renegade threads. Like when people were saying the xbox 360 having a high attach rate was a bad thing somehow. If history was repeating itself, nearly 20 million ps3s would be sold by now. People should stop pulling stuff out of their behinds, the ps2 crushed the competition right from day one.
