Sure, it's easy to come up with some parallels between the two platforms, but will the Xbox 360 go the way of the Dreamcast and have Microsoft abandon it a few years into its life cycle? Extremely unlikely. Microsoft is in a much different position than Sega was a few years ago. Here are some of the top reasons why the Xbox 360 will succeed where the Dreamcast failed.
Square, the most important publisher in Japan, never supported the console.
EA, the most important publisher in the U.S., never supported the console.
Dreamcast was too early for broadband gaming; 56K didn't really cut it.
Wasn't backwards compatible.
Sorry Dreamcast fans, but the system's controller really wasn't that great.
Had tons of amazing games...but no Halo 3.
FFVIII released the same day as the Dreamcast.
Former president Bernie Stolar quit right before the system launched, sending a bad sign.
Had a limited budget of only $100 million to market the console.
Has the support of Square Enix starting with Final Fantasy XI.
Has the full support of EA, with a whole lineup of titles at launch.
Broadband penetration is getting higher and Xbox Live is unparalleled.
Backwards compatible (mostly).
Has a wireless pad that many claim may be the best controller ever made.
Will have Halo 3. And it will be huge.
Next to no competition at launch.
Solid executive team in J Allard, Robbie Bach, and Peter Moore.
Can, and will, spend whatever it takes to make the Xbox 360 a success.

Your living in the past dude, Sony has a slim chance of doing what it did to the dreamcast without GTA or anything else really for that matter (no offence)
Maybe next generation?
BTW Blue-Ray really isn't "next-gen" it hasn't even proven itself worthy yet in the market, nor has HD-DVD for that matter.

Dreamcast us GD-Rom disk, capable of hold about 1 GIG or so, about as big as the Gamecube's, not a sigificant drawback.
As for the PS3 blu-ray, there is no real reason why you need it in gaming, I bet there will be under ten titles in the 360's lifetime that use mutliple disks, it's just not that big of a deal
PS2/Dreamcast Era-Dreamcast had a one year headstart and was outselling PS2 in the first year PS2 released
PS3/360 Present time-360 has one year head start. 360 outselling PS3 ChristopherM80
360 has currently sold more units than the Dreamcast did in its entire lifespan

woohoo, and PS3 still can't compare
PS2/Dreamcast Era- Dreamcast had the most games and better library while PS2 was struggling getting the good games out
PS3/360 Present time-360 has the most games and better librarary while PS3 is struggling getting the good games out ChristopherM80
Sony does have a problem, at least not everyone is still following them blindly

The PS3 is difficult to program for because the choices of what was put inside was made by businessmen trying to "push the sony brand", and incororpate proprietary formats and devices to push technologies as opposed to what is best for gaming.

The big diffrence is that the Ps2 was actually significantly more powerful than the Dreamcast, that is not the case with regard to the 360 and PS3, I still love my Dreamcast, and think it still has an amazing library of games, but the 360 is now second, it has had one amazing.
Another thing that struck me, even back when the PS3 was annouced, the price is WAY to high for a gaming console, which is what it is, no matter what Sony say, no matter what they say, it will always be viewed as a toy, nintendo see's this, and is making a killing, Microsoft has a foot in the hardcore, and a foot in the casual, and the PS3 is to expensive for its own goof, $400 for a toy is pretty steep, considering that its stripped of BC
The 360 will not suffer the same fate as the Dreamcast, it will easily be able to keep up with the PS3 in terms of Graphics and Gameplay, it is selling better, has more high profile games, like Halo, and is still very succesful after the launch of the Playstatiom, the Dreamcast faded pretty fast
[QUOTE="ff7isnumbaone"]so? I already know this. i know it came out and 1998 in japan and 1999 in US.
